The Castlegar & District Recreation Department in partnership with Nelson and Trail Recreation Departments will be hosting the Recreation Facilities Association of British Columbia (RFABC), Conference and Trade Show, May 2013 in Castlegar, welcoming 100 plus delegates from all over BC.

• The 2013 conference is build around a “POWER of Green” theme innovative strategies and tactics for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of sustainable recreation facilities.

AQUATICS Doodle Dash ‘n’ Splash3 – 5yrsCastlegar Community Complex – Purcell Room

Join in the fun as we Doodle for craft time, Dash for gym time, and finish our afternoon with a Splash in the pool. This 4 week session is loaded with creative energy and joyful play! Please pack a snack, water bottle, runners, and swimsuit for your child (We will need one parent volunteer each week for help in the pool.

Jessica Bamford, is a fun, compassionate, and enthusiastic teacher that loves inspiring others to celebrate the magic of our web of life through art, drama, and creative play. She has been working with kids of all ages for the past 15 years. Having trained and worked with the YMCA as a residential and day camp counselor, she then continued on to teach youth programs, including art and drama, in Calgary, and eco-psychology variety programs for young children in the Slocan Valley. Once upon a Dance 3-4 & 5-6 yrsCastlegar Community Complex – Fitness Room

The 30 minute class will inspire pre-school children by providing the opportunity to try dance in a pressure free environment. Children will be introduced to fundamentals of ballet, jazz, modern and basic tumbling in a fun and creative way. It teaches kids to connect imagination with movement and develop musicality as well as, a great way t burn some of that extra energy!

Music for Young Children – Sunrise Program – Level 121/2- 3 yrs Castlegar Community Complex – Columbia Room

The Sunrise Program is an exciting pre-school music program for children 21/2 and 3 year old that meets in groups for 45 minutes weekly with a specially trained teacher. Through singing, rhythm, crafts and listening activities, they are introduced to the exciting world of music. The group encourages listening and awareness, development of fine motor skills, social interaction and helps develop attention span and confidence. This is a parent participation program.

Alicia has been teaching the Music for Young Children program for five years and is also actively involved in the community with both her piano and trombone playing.

What To Expect! Day 1: Instructors will meet students in the designated lesson areas of the pool deck (signs posted). Please present your child’s last RC progress card to the Instructor. Instructors screen students to ensure they are enrolled in the appropriate level.

Note: Decision to transfer students based on skill level will be discussed with parent.

Day 6: Half way reports will be issued at the start of today’s lesson. Parents, you may touch base with the instructor today to discuss your child’s progress so far.

Day 8: Parent Appreciation Day! Parents, feel free to come out on deck today and get a closer look at your child’s lesson, or better yet, Join the Class! Have fun!

Day 10: Progress Card Day! The card outlines successes and challenges for your child. It also indicates which level to register your child in next time. If the level is complete, they will receive a badge! If there’s more to complete, they will receive a sticker and/or tattoo! Note: pre-school parent & tot classes do not come with badges, but do have Stickers!

Parent/ Spectator Policy:The Pool area can be very busy with programs, activities, and swim lessons. To ensure safety for all and minimize distractions and blind spots for the lifeguards: All patrons are required to remain in the pool viewing area. Lesson parents may pick up children in the viewing area after their lesson. Please join us on the deck or in the water on Parent Appreciations Day!

Private lessons are not recommended for water safety knowledge, but for specific items that are not completed in a regular lesson set. An introductory course that allows you to try SCUBA diving in the safe, warm, confined waters of the Castlegar Pool! A fitness ambassador performs duties in the weight room a minimum of 4 hours per week in return for free use of the weight room.
