Its parent institutions are the CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research), Sciences Po Bordeaux and Bordeaux University. ■ PUBLICATIONS and COMMUNICATION■ A constant increase in the number of publications in a variety of forms. In 2012, the CENTRE EMILE DURKHEIM’s 45 faculty staff produced: ▪ 45 articles in peer reviewed journals (18 of which were in English)▪ 20 books (of which 6 were single or joint authored)▪ 70 book chapters▪ numerous other publications in specialized or ‘trade’ journals
■ Wide participation in national and international conferences, with more than 400 papers in 2012
■ TEACHING and TRAININGMembers of the research laboratory participate in 2 research Masters:▪ “International Politics”, takes place solely within Science Po Bordeaux ▪ “Social problems and public action”, run jointly by Science Po Bordeaux and Bordeaux Segalen University, has ‘Societies, Power and Representations’ as its research theme.
At any one time, the Centre has 80 doctoral students who are also members of the transdisciplinary doctoral school “Societies, Politics and Public health”. Doctoral students are expected to be intensely involved in the Centre’s research poles. Moreover, they are eligible for funding that enables them to participate actively in national and international scientific events. Around 10 Phds are completed each year.
■ KEY FEATURES■ The laboratory is mostly funded by research contracts awarded by various sources: the European Union, Agence Nationale de la Recherche, the Aquitaine Regional Council, etc. ■ Intense involvement in national and international networks■ Longstanding partnerships, notably with the Céreq over professional trainings and with the University of Stuttgart■ Development of methodological innovation, in particular databases (e.g. for political agendas)■ Training in quantitative analysis and collective reflection over qualitative methods - ARCHIPOLIS’ network■ Collaboration with the biomedical sciences through a local cluster called Bordeaux-Santé-Société financed by an IDEX - Initiative d’excellence launched by the University of Bordeaux, using a national award for the high quality of research in the city
