Ascension
“Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.” When the mass ends, those words, Go, and serve , convey both the essence and the urgency of today’ gospel. Before he is taken up to heaven, Jesus demands of his disciples to “ Go … and proclaim,” and they “went forth and preached.” The disciples were people like you and me, through perhaps having a bit more focused sense of mission. Their mission was a journey to declare the message of the Lord and salvation, the invitation to know and follow Jesus.
Like in the Palestine of old, Jesus sends his friends today with an urgent “Go,” a missionary journey. I think though, that, human nature being what it is, many of us might rather stay put, put in our time here at church and be relatively comforta-ble. But that’s not what our Lord wants of us. In order to work with us, we must first Go, and what’s more, proclaim. There is a real determination and resolution to this call.
But before Jesus says go , we need to be ready -- like a good scout, to be prepared . This means simply to first come to the Lord, or, come back to the Lord. What does the Savior say? “ Come to me, all you who are weary and heavily burdened, and I will give you you rest” ( Mt 11:28). Once you’ve rested and your strength is up, once you’ve set a while at the feet of the Master and learned from him, from his word, from his prayerful relationship with the Father, then the Lord will send you. He will send you, equipped with power and authority, as His disciple to those who haven’t yet heard the gospel, or who don’t really know that it is truly good news. There are people who need your touch and your love now, who may be alienated from the Church, lonely, hurting physically or mentally, and you are the storyteller of how God reached you, you are the one sent to lay hands on the sick, to speak the language of those we seek to convert, you are the one to invoke the powerful word of Jesus to those snared by sin.
Here, I am reminded of the story of when Jesus returned to heaven, and He and the Archangel Gabriel were talking. Even in heaven Jesus bore the marks of the crucifixion. Gabriel said, “Master, you must have suffered horribly! Do people know and appreciate how you love them and what you did for them?” Jesus replied, “Oh no; not yet. Right now only a few people in Palestine know.” Gabriel was puzzled. “Then what have you done to let everyone know about your love?”
Jesus answered, “I have asked Peter, Andrew, James, John, and a few more friends to tell others about me. Those who are told will tell others about me, and yet others will tell more, until the last man and last woman in the farthest corner of the earth will have heard the story of how I gave my life for them because I love them so much. “Gabriel frowned and looked rather skeptical. “Yes, but what if Peter and the others grow weary? What if the people who come afer them forget? Surely you have made other plans?” Jesus replied, “Gabriel, I haven’t made any other plans. I’m counting on them. ”
Today, proclaim Christ to someone. Do it in what you say and do it through your actions, and do it despite your doubts. You are the only bible some will ever read, and even if your pages aren’t perfect, they at least reflect how God has called us, imperfect though we are, to impart his perfect plan. Take whatever opportunity is given you, and do not lose heart. You are a witness for the Lord, and He needs you, now more than ever, to come to His defense. Don’t say, “let Father do it, let Deacon do it” -- all of us, by virtue of our baptism, are charged with the responsibility of spreading the gospel. To this point, one observer has said, “Unfortunately, Christianity of our day is like a football game in which there are 22 men on the field desperately needing rest, watched by 40,000 in the stands desper-ately needing exercise.”
Let’s get some exercise---GO, serve, proclaim!

Blessed Trinity
Join us for Dairy Day
Spring is finally here! Let's celebrate with some ice cream. Our monthly fundraiser at Dairy Queen (77th & Lyndale) is Tuesday, May 15, 2-6 pm. During this time 15% of receipts are donated to Blessed Trinity. Have a sweet treat and support your parish school! Middle School Play: Peter Pan Jr
Our middle school students (and staff!) have been hard at work pre-paring for their annual play. This year's performance is of Peter Pan Jr on Friday May 18. There are two showings, 9 am and 7 pm, at the Academy of Holy Angels. All are welcome! Volunteer Celebration! Please join us for our Volunteer Mass and Celebration on Wednes-day, May 23, 12:15 pm at St. Richard's. You, our volunteers, support us in so many ways with your gifts. Please join us so we can thank and recognize you for all you do to support our school. Reception will follow Mass.
A special thanks to Mr. Luke Piram for spearheading the efforts of the Church staff, Knights of Columbus and ACCW in putting together our farewell shindig for our outgoing Parish Business Administrator Ryan Currens. Thank you to all the parishioners who attended and made the event such a success. Ryan was very thankful and wished to put the below note in as a personal thank you for all the well wishes and card: “Thank you so much for all the kind thoughts, words and cards. The people of Assumption are truly great and I am honored to have had the opportunity to work with and for you. Thank you again for everything.” Here are a couple of pictures from the event:
Thank you Ryan for your years of service and thank you to every-one who made the event possible. Lastly, as a reminder we are still accepting applications for the Parish Business Administrator position now till June 1st, if you know of someone who is interested have them check out our posting on the Archdiocese job postings page.
Sacred Relics Of The Saints: Treasures Of The Church Friday, May 18, 2018
The Church of St. Michael presents a teaching and exposition of Sa-cred Relics on Friday, May 18 at 6:30 pm. Father Carlos Martins of the Companions of the Cross will be here with his very special min-istry to teach about these holy objects. He will bring with him over 150 relics, some as old as 2000 years. Among the treasures will be relics of St. Maria Goretti, St. Therese of Lisieux (the “Little Flow-er"), St. Francis of Assisi, St. Anthony of Padua, St. Thomas Aquinas, and St. Faustina Kowalska. In addition, there will also be present a portion of the veil of Our Lady, as well as one of the largest remain-ing pieces of the True Cross in the world. Those in attendance will be able to examine and venerate each relic. In the Church’s history many miracles and healings have been worked in the presence of relics, and many have been healed through this ministry. Please do not miss this opportunity. You are encouraged to bring your articles of devotion (such as rosaries, holy cards, etc.) and pictures of ill friends/family members which you will be able to touch to the reliquaries as a means of intercession. Holy Mass will be offered at 5:30 pm, followed by the Holy Ro-sary before the presentation by Fr. Martins. Confession will be available.
