This week is the final installment of parishioners sharing about their 2 year experience at the Archbishop Flynn Cateche cal Ins tute (CI). Frances Kramer shared 2 weeks ago with Rita Fahey sharing last week, and finally, Steve Lemmer shares this. Last year Patsy Quinn from St. Bernard, who was the first parishioner from either parish to a end the CI, shared a li le about her CI expe-rience. Doris Mielke from St. Bernard is just finishing her first year.

When I started this class, I had no idea what to expect or what the impact would be on my life. My understanding of the Catechism was that of a rule book. And by looking at it, it was quite the rule book, with a LOT of rules. I had no idea what I was getting myself into but I did the one thing that I had to do and that was open my heart and invite God in.

What I found was a book full of truths and not very many rules. In fact, I would boil all of the Catechism down to two rules: 1) Love the Lord Your God with your whole heart, mind, soul, and strength and 2) Love your neigh-bor as yourself. The primary truth that I found was that God is love. He loves us. No matter what we do good or bad, God loves us as a Father. He respects our wills and the choices we make. But like any good loving father, God knows we will make mistakes and he will welcome us back with open arms. All we have to do is choose to love Him. The Catechism is a book about a relationship, our relationship with God. It gives us a guide to move with God, to seek Him, to find Him, and to Love Him.

The Catechism is comprised of four basic pillars. The first is on the Creed. It tells of who God is and his plan for our salvation. The second is on the Sacraments. This is how God interacts with us and how we can enter into our own plan for salvation. The third is about the moral life or basically how we are to live our lives. The fourth pillar on prayer shows us how we can communicate with God. Both the third and fourth pillars become very per-sonal and cause reflection on our own lives.

This class has truly changed me. I have a deeper faith and love of God. I recognize the beauty and depth of our faith and it has reaffirmed that the Catholic Church is the one True Church. I currently teach faith formation for the 9th grade. The first two pillars of the Catechism dove-tailed nicely with this grade level for Confirmation prep-aration. I will continue to listen for where God may lead me, as I believe I am called to teach whether that contin-ues to be Confirmation preparation or some other venue within the parish. ~Steve Lemmer

Is God calling you to consider a ending the CI? Patsy, Rita, Frances, Steve or Doris would be happy to talk with you about it. I encourage St. Bernard & Ascension Parish-ioners to consider a ending the CI - - Con nued in the column to the right > > > > > >

< < < < < < < < <Con nued from the column on the le (check it out at h ps://www.s homas.edu/spssod/centers/flynn/). It is an effec ve way to (1) deepen your rela onship with God, (2) grow in knowledge & love of our Catholic Faith, and (3) be equipped to share your faith with others by loving and serving them in the unique way God calls you to. Because those who a end enrich our parish, St. Bernard & Ascension each pay $250.00 of the $500.00 tui on for any parishioner a ending.

Yours in Christ, Fr. Gregory

Here is the schedule: 7:25am Ex-position of the Blessed Sacrament; 7:30am Rosary/adoration and individual Confessions; 7:50am Confes-sions ends; 8:00am Mass. May through July the Mass will be at Ascension and August through October it will be at St. Bernard. All are encouraged to come, but I am looking for men of either parish to fill the following roles: Sacris-tan (1): arrive no later than 7:10am & stay 5 minutes after Mass to clean up; Eucharistic Adorer (1): arrive no later than 7:20am (Adoration 7:25am—8am); Rosary Leader (1): arrive no later than 7:20am (Rosary begins at 7:30am); Greeters (2): arrive no later than 7:45am; Mass Server (2): arrive no later than 7:45am; Mass Reader (1): arrive no later than 7:45am; Training will be provided. Please email/call Cheryl Coyle ([email protected] 952.412.9557) to schedule yourself for any of these roles for any of the 6 Masses. Any roles unfilled will either not occur (i.e. adoration, rosary, greeter) or I will need to cov-er (i.e. sacristan, Mass reader, or server). Men, if you do not feel called to lead in any of these ways, still come and pray. Thanks, FR. Gregory

Church window screens: Help is needed to repair and maintain the window screens. Screens have holes in them, some are not installed properly and dead insects are between the screen and stained glass. This is something that does not have to be coordinated with anyone. Mayer Lumber in Mayer Minn. repairs screens and St. Bernard has an account with Mayer Lumber to charge the expense. You can do the repair work any way you deem best. With warm weather soon arriving we will want the windows open and screens to keep bugs out. Your help is appreciated

Welcome to the newest member of St. Bernard Church,

Emma Lou Panning, daughter of Brandon and Shari Panning, who was baptized into Christ on

Sunday, May 22, 2016. Let us pray a Hail Mary for them.

Eucharistic Adoration Wednesday, June 1st, after the 8:00 a.m. Mass until 8:00 p.m. Please sign up for an hour or half hour at the table in the Narthex. In peace I shall both lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me secure…. (Ps. 4:9)

Adoration Chapel Altar Blessing: At our May 28 & 29th Masses we will bless

our beautiful new adoration chapel altar. We are grateful to the family of

Bernard and Mary Jane Laumann in whose memory this altar was given.

We are looking for assistance with the lawn trim-ming/weed whipping around the church and ceme-tery grounds. If you are interested, please contact the parish office (954-466-2301) or Ralph Laumann at 952-466-3331.

The adult choir will practice on Tuesday, May 31st at 7pm in the church. The choir will be leading the singing on Sunday, June 5th at the 10am Mass. All are encouraged to join in the singing at the Mass. Singing is praying twice.

“Linger Longer” next weekend, June 4th & 5th, The St. Bernard Branch of Catholic United Fi-nancial will be serving refreshments after Mass in the Narthex of the Church. All are invited to socialize with fellow parishioners.

Church of the Ascension Norwood Young America, MN

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION: Saturday: 4:15-4:45 pm

May 29th The Solemnity of the Most Holy

For members of the Church: Body and Blood of Christ

May the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist strengthen us in protecting his gift of life;

We pray to the Lord:

BACCALAUREATE SERVICE There will be a Baccalaureate Service held at Central High School for the graduating seniors on June 1st at 7:00 pm

Parish Council Congratulations to our Parish Council election

winners. Michael Schwichtenberg was re-elected to a 3 year term, David Dettmann was elected to a 3 year term and

Richard Tellers to a 1 year term. Please say a prayer for them and the rest of our

Parish Council leadership.

BAPTISM We joyfully welcome Jagger Alexander Voigt as the newest

member of the Church of the Ascension. Son of Jordan and Cara Voigt, Jagger

was baptized into Christ on May 22, 2016. Please pray a Hail Mary for him and his family.

ADORATION As we celebrate Corpus Christi Sunday we invite every pa-

rishioner to participate in our regular adoration. At Ascension we have adoration of the Blessed Sacrament each Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Because Jesus in the Holy Eucharist is exposed in the monstrance during these hours, we need at least 1 person to be pre-

sent. It is awesome to be with Him who is truly present in Body & Blood, Soul & Divinity: only the Sacrifice of the

Mass is a greater privilege for us.

We always need more people for each hour. If you can commit to 1 hour per week or can commit to substitute

when a regular adorer cannot make it, please call the coor-dinator at your parish. At

Ascension please call Jan at 952-412-4900 or at St. Bernard call Helen at 952-466-2000 to volunteer to get

more information about adoration and how it works, as well as the benefits.

Congratulations to Daniel Whitaker, the son of Donald and Lisa Whitaker, who graduated from Holy Trinity Catho-lic High School in Winsted, MN on May 20, 2016. The bish-op, the Most Rev. John M. Levoir, addressed the graduates and presented diplomas. Daniel has attended Catholic school since kindergarten. He is the grandson of Bernard and Donna Meuleners of St. Bernard’s Church in Cologne and Larry and Bernice Whitaker of Norwood Young America.
