Baptism Baptisms are celebrated on various Sundays throughout the year at 1:15 p.m. You are encouraged to register for the baptism BEFORE YOUR CHILD IS BORN, so that it is easier to attend the required Baptism Preparation Class. Please call the Center and we will be happy to set up an appointment. Many parents also use this opportunity to register in the Parish as a new parishioner. Information about Godparents is available on the website.
Marriage We are happy to arrange for your wedding. First, we have the marriage interview and then we can set the date for the wedding. More information is available on the website. Please call the Center for an appointment and we will be happy to help you!
Reconciliation Confessions are heard in our Church Reconciliation Room (in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel) on Saturdays from 4:00 until 4:45 p.m. You are also welcome to call the Center and make an appointment to celebrate the Sacrament.
Anointing of the Sick We encourage all those eligible for this Sacrament to be anointed after the Noon Mass on the first Sunday of the month or by calling the Center. Those eligible are those who are about to undergo an operation; are suffering from serious illness and the condition has worsened; or are enduring the weakening effects of advancing age and it has been one year since they were last anointed.

St. Elizabeth Widow and Widowers Social Club Will be holding their first meeting of the new year on Wednesday, January 24, 2 p.m. in Room 108 at the Center. The club has one meeting a month and once a month they enjoy lunch out as a group at a local restaurant. The social club is open to all widowers and widows. Come and meet new friends. Are you a mom looking for support from
other moms like you?
M.O.M.S. provides spiritual enrichment for women of all ages and life experiences. M.O.M.S. will introduce women to opportunities for personal and spiritual growth in a faith-sharing group through journaling and discussion. Topics include self-esteem and self- acceptance, stress, worries and anxiety, everyday spirituality, personal growth and expressing values in friendship.
This 7-week program will begin on Monday, January 22, 2018, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. in the Spiritual Life Center. Cost of the program is $25.00.

Reaching Out to the “Afflicted & Affected”
A recent conference was given by Catholic Charities addressing the epidemic of addiction affecting us all. We have all seen the heart-breaking statistics which may lead us to a sense of hopelessness. The most surprising, heartbreaking statistic given that day was that the majority of people of faith who are either afflicted or affected by addiction stated they never considered reaching out to the church for support. We are all touched by the disease of addiction. Our Pastoral Team may not have a solution, but we may know of some resources you haven’t tried; or you may simply need someone to talk to. Understanding the Sunday Readings Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

First Reading: Jonah’s prophetic task was not easy. No wonder he refused it the first time God called. In today’s reading, the Lord’s word comes to Jonah for a second time, this time after the Lord rescued Jonah from the belly of the big fish by having the fish spew Jonah out onto the seashore. Jonah calls the people of Nineveh to repentance based on his personal experience of God’s mercy and the opportunity to live a new life in God. God acknowledges the conversion of the Ninevites and God himself repented of the evil that he would have brought upon them.
Responsorial Psalm 25: Psalm 25 calls upon the Lord to teach us and instruct us in divine ways. The verses are the psalmist’s prayer and ours-- that the Lord not only make those ways known to us, but that the Lord will guide us and have compassion on us when we stray. We acknowledge our sinfulness, our need for humility and the constancy of the Lord’s presence by our side as our Teacher.
Second Reading: This brief passage is Paul’s advice to the Corinthians about how to live in the interim before Christ comes again in glory. Paul believes that the Second Coming of Christ is imminent, so he conveys his instructions with a sense of urgency. Christians are to live in the knowledge of the Second Coming, for this world is passing away. What lasts eternally is God’s grace in the present (and active in the Risen Christ), now alive in the hearts of those who believe. When Christians live in this knowledge, then their worldly actions will appear different than those who do not await the Lord.
Gospel: Jesus’ proclamation to repent and believe in the Gospel parallels Jonah’s call to the Ninevites to repent. What is unique in Jesus’ proclamation is the preface to his announcement in which he states, “This is the time of fulfillment.” Through our reading of the Gospel according to Mark, we, along with the disciples, will come to know that in Jesus’ very person as the Son of Man who saves is fulfillment of all of God’s
promises. Without fully knowing this, Simon and Andrew respond to Jesus’ call to come after him and become fishermen for other followers. James and his brother John are the next to trust in the possibilities of what following Jesus could bring. Courage to Grieve

ANNULMENT PROCESS

ALCOHOL / DRUG PROBLEMS
Catholic Charities / Talbot House, a chemical
dependence crisis center located in Bohemia, provides
withdrawal and stabilization services on a voluntary
basis to males and females over the age of 18 who are
seeking to stop and/or withdraw from alcohol and/or
other drug use. The medical and clinical staff at
Talbot House will assess the kind of care the person
needs to begin his/her journey in recovery. For more

staff is available 24/7. Each call is confidential.
