Becoming a Catholic or Adult Confirmation Are you interested in becoming Catholic? Were you never Confirmed and now find that you would like to complete your Sacraments of Initiation? Are you interested in finding out more about the Catholic faith? If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, then Faith Formation is for you! Call the Parish Center for more information.
Baptism Baptisms are celebrated on various Sundays throughout the year at 1:15 p.m. You are encouraged to register for the baptism BEFORE YOUR CHILD IS BORN, so that it is easier to attend the required Baptism Preparation Class. Please call the Center and we will be happy to set up an appointment. Many parents also use this opportunity to register in the Parish as a new parishioner. Information about Godparents is available on the website.
Marriage We are happy to arrange for your wedding. First, we have the marriage interview and then we can set the date for the wedding. More information is available on the website. Please call the Center for an appointment and we will be happy to help you!
Reconciliation Confessions are heard in our Church Reconciliation Room (in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel) on Saturdays from 4:00 until 4:45 p.m. You are also welcome to call the Center and make an appointment to celebrate the Sacrament.
Anointing of the Sick We encourage all those eligible for this Sacrament to be anointed after the Noon Mass on the first Sunday of the month or by calling the Center. Those eligible are those who are about to undergo an operation; are suffering from serious illness and the condition has worsened; or are enduring the weakening effects of advancing age and it has been one year since they were last anointed.

enable the Life Center to
continue helping women
in crisis and their unborn
babies.
Now, more than ever, these women need to hear that
there is help available to them that will enable them
to choose life for their babies. Your financial
contributions and layette items enable the Life Center
to provide the necessities and resources these women
need. We continue to appreciate your generosity, as
well as your prayers for those who volunteer at the
Life Center. This year the donations for the Bassinettes
for the Life Center campaign are crucial for the
continuation of this vital crisis pregnancy center.
Due to financial constraints, the Life Center has been
forced to reduce staff at the Deer Park office and close
the Riverhead office.

A Prayer for Father’s Day
God our Father, we give you thanks and praise for fathers young and old.
We pray for young fathers, newly-embracing their vocation.
May they find the courage and perseverance to balance
work, family and faith in joy and sacrifice.
We pray for our own fathers
who have supported and challenged us. May they continue to lead in strong and gently ways.
We remember fathers around the world
whose children are lost or suffering. May they know that the God of compassion
walks with them in their sorrow.
We pray for men who are not fathers but still mentor and guide us with fatherly love and advice.
We remember fathers, grandfathers and
great-grandfathers who are no longer with us but who live forever in our memory and
nourish us with their love.

Trinity Sunday commemorates and honors not an event, but a reality: the Holy Trinity. Trinity Sunday always falls on the Sunday after Pentecost. Trinity Sunday, officially called “The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity,” is one of the few celebrations of the Christian year that commemorates a reality and doctrine rather than a person or event. On Trinity Sunday, Christians remember and honor the eternal God: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Eastern Churches have no tradition of Trinity Sunday, arguing that they celebrate the Trinity every Sunday. Westerners also commemorate the Trinity at every Eucharist. The Trinity is described as a “mystery.” By mystery, the Church does not mean a riddle but rather the Trinity is a reality above our human comprehension that we may begin to grasp but ultimately must know through worship, symbol and faith. It has been said that mystery is not a wall to run up against but an ocean in which to swim. The Trinity is best described in the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed, commonly called the Nicene Creed. Essentially, the Trinity is the belief that God is one in essence (Greek ousia), but distinct in person (Greek hypostasis). The Greek word for person means “that which stands on its own,” or “individual reality,” and does not mean the persons of the Trinity are three human beings. Therefore, Christians believe that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are somehow distinct from one another (not divided though) yet completely united in will and essence. How can this be? Well, think of the sight of two eyes. The eyes are distinct, yet one and undivided in their sight. Another illustration to explain the Trinity is the musical chord. Think of a C-chord. The C, E, and G notes are all distinct notes, but joined together as one chord the sound is richer and more dynamic than had the notes been played individually. The chords are all equally important in producing the rich sound and the sound is lacking and thin if one of the notes is left out. Reprinted from churchyear.net / article by David Bennett.

First Reading: The passage from Proverbs
describes how Wisdom was present with the Lord
from before creation. When the Lord created the
heavens and the earth, Wisdom was near the Lord.
Wisdom played before the Lord in joy. Wisdom
played on the earth the Lord created. Wisdom
appreciated humanity.
Responsorial Psalm 8: Psalm 8 gives us the words
to express our wonderment at the splendor of
God’s creation. From the heavens to the earth
and in recognition of all the earth’s creatures, we
praise the name of the Lord. We also acknowledge,
with humility, our place (the place of humanity)
within creation.
Second Reading: In the opening verses of
Romans 5, Paul speaks of the triad of faith, hope
and love; and, in the context of the tree, provides
a reference to God, the Lord Jesus Christ and the
Holy Spirit. A few centuries later, the Church would
cite references like these to develop its doctrine of
the Trinity.
Gospel: Jesus speaks of His departure to the
disciples and assures them that the Spirit of
truth will be present with them after He leaves.
The Spirit will serve as a guide to the disciples,
leading them to the truth. All that Jesus shares
from the Father, the Spirit will give to the disciples
so that they, too, might participate in the Father’s
glory.

KELLENBERG MEMORIAL REUNIONS
