Summer is here, but our faith in the Lord never takes a vacation. We invite you to journey through this beautiful season with us at Mass at The Church of Saint William. Please remember to continue your financial support throughout the summer months, even when you are taking some vaca-tion time away. May God bless you and keep you safe this summer.

Prayer for the Fourth of July On this Independence Day I am re-minded of all those who have sacri-ficed for my freedom, following the example of your Son, Jesus Christ. Let me not take my freedom, both

physical and spiritual, for granted. May I always re-member that my freedom was purchased with a very high price. My freedom cost others their very lives. Lord, today, bless those who have served and contin-ue to give their lives for my freedom. With favor and bounty meet their needs and watch over their families. Help me to live my life in a way that glorifies you, Lord. Give me the strength to be a blessing in someone else's life today, and grant me the opportunity to lead others into the freedom that can be found in knowing Christ.

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

June 30, 2019

FOCUS: Jesus summons us to him and then sends us out as messengers to proclaim his kingdom.

The Christian life is one of following the way of Christ. Jesus calls us out of our worldliness, out of our habits and attachments, to follow his way. And after we encounter the Lord, he sends us out to proclaim the truth of his kingdom.

LITURGY OF THE WORD: In the reading from the First Book of Kings, the Lord tells Elijah to find Elisha and anoint him as prophet to succeed him. Elisha, though he wants to wait until he can say goodbye to his parents, nevertheless slaughters his oxen and follows. In the second reading, Paul writes to the Galatians about the freedom that Christ came to bring us which, if we live by the Spirit, allows us to not be controlled by the desires of the flesh. In the Gospel, Jesus is making his final journey to Jerusalem, and tells those who want to follow him that they must do so without delay.

REFLECTION: The Christian way is frequently described as a journey – but not for sightseeing or mere observation. It requires daily commitment. It might be more accurate to call it a “pilgrimage.” Like pilgrims of old, we are travel-ing together towards a special place, praying as we go and supporting one another as we face the chal-lenges along the way.

So we ask ourselves:

• How would you describe this moment of your Christian pilgrimage?

• What is the source of your strength and nour-ishment as you travel day to day?
