Visionaries & Funde Board of Directo Dear Friends,

As we celebrated 15 years serving the North Florida Community, the Foundation

continued to see strong growth in all areas:

Assets $26.6 MillionInvestment Growth 15.6%Contributions $7.2 MillionGrants $2.4 Million

Expanding on our mission to promote philanthropy and support charitable

organizations, we launched our rst initiative, FindLearnGive.org in the fall of 2012.

The website serves as an information resource for the community and connects

donors and nonpro ts. FindLearnGive.org showcases our remarkable local

nonpro t organizations. We hope you visit FindLearnGive.org to learn more about

your favorite charities and discover new ones.

In conjunction with the launch of FindLearnGive.org, we held our rst Match Day.

Match Day far exceeded our expectations with generous contributions from the

community of more than $75,000. These gifts combined with additional matching

funds resulted in $105,000 to local nonpro ts.

Our hope is this report will give you some insight on the many individuals and

nonpro t organizations in our community achieving their charitable interests and

goals through the Community Foundation.

We connect people with nonpro ts. We help individuals with their passion for

giving. We help nonpro ts build for the future. As the community’s resource for

information for donors and nonpro ts, we are proud to be part of this community.

For Good. For Ever.

We look forward to being your information resource for the next 15 years and more.

Sincerely,

Stan Barnes, Chairman Joy R. Watkins, JD, President

Visionaries & Funde Board of Directo Founding MembersThe Founding Members of the Foundation are visionaries whose generous nancial sup-

port provided the initial operating capital for the Foundation. In just 15 short years, that initial

operating capital of $1 million has resulted in a pool of $26.6 million in charitable funds. Our

Founding Members’ photos are to the right and the logos are at the bottom of the page.

FoundersMembers of the Tallahassee Regional Estate Planning Council (TREPC) realized that many of

their clients wanted to create a permanent charitable legacy but were discouraged by the

associated complexity and expense. So, they formed the Community Foundation to provide

a simple and cost-effective vehicle for people to create charitable legacies and for nonpro t

organizations to build endowments. The result is a pool of funds that will bene t the com-

munity for generations. Our Founders are pictured below.

Your Resource for GivingTO YOUR FAVORITE CHARITIES

Helping People Give to Their Favorite Charities

People may establish a charitable fund with us ($5,000 minimum)

that operates much like a private foundation but without the expense,

administrative burdens and restrictions. A charitable fund may be created

during life or at death. Once you establish a fund, the Community Foundation

becomes the back of ce administrator of your foundation (we call it a

charitable fund) handling all of the administrative details, IRS compliance,

accounting, audit, investment, grant research, etc. And, you get to do the

fun and rewarding part: recommend grants from your fund to your favorite

charities.

To Be More Organized • Receive one tax receipt for all of your charitable gifts

• Receive regular reports showing the charities you support

• Receive a buffer from solicitations

To Create a Legacy of Giving• Continue your giving beyond your lifetime

• Include your children and grandchildren, if you wish, to share your philanthropy values and a tradition of giving

• It is easier and more cost effective than a private foundation

To Achieve Maximum Tax Advantages• Escape capital gains tax by funding your charitable gifts

with appreciated assets

• Shelter income by giving larger amounts in good income years and giving grants to charities over time

• Give more away by investing your charitable dollars

• Reduce your current income tax obligation and remove assets from your taxable estate by establishing a fund at the Foundation

Three Primary Reasons to Create a Charitable Fund at the Foundation

“We’re proud to have

been associated with

the Foundation since its

inception. Many of our

clients, both individuals

and nonpro t organizations, have used

the Community Foundation to help

them reach their goals, whatever those

may be. For individuals, the Foundation

provides a safe and cost effective

means of carrying out charitable giving

plans. For nonpro t organizations, the

Foundation provides knowledge and

resources for investing and endowment

management, to which many

organizations may not otherwise have

access. The Foundation is dedicated to

bringing those with nancial resources

together with those in need, so that

everyone in our community bene ts.”

Your Resource for Giving Your Resource for BuildingNONPROFIT ENDOWMENTS

Helping Charities Build Endowments

Any person may choose to establish an endowment for their favorite charity or a nonpro t organi-

zation may place their endowment (or a portion of it) under the umbrella of the Foundation. Once

established (with a gift of $5,000 or more), an agency endowment fund may be added to at any

time by anyone. An agency endowment at the Community Foundation offers a stable, predictable

and ongoing source of income for nonpro ts. As the administrator of the endowment, the Founda-

tion handles all of the investments, gifts, accounting, auditing and administrative burdens freeing

the staff and board of the nonpro t from these responsibilities.

Primary Reasons for Establishing an Agency Endowment at the Community Foundation:

• Professional endowment investment expertise

• Diversi ed investment portfolio

• Increased donor con dence by partnering with a professional endowment building organization

• Lower costs due to the economies of scale

• Increased visibility for the endowment

• Reduced administrative burdens

• Third party protection ensuring dollars will be preserved as an endowment and not used for any other purpose

• Predictable annual distributions

“The Foundation is the

perfect vehicle for our

family’s charitable giving

strategy. We wanted to

create a program that not

only supported our current giving but

also would establish a mechanism our

family could use for years after we are

gone. We wanted to not only give our

children an inheritance but also a gift and

opportunity to help their community. Our

family foundation at CFNF gives us this

capability.”

- David & Tanya Wilkins

“We have found the

Community Foundation

of North Florida to be an

easy, ef cient way to give

back to our remarkable

community.” - Winnie & Dave Schmeling

Legacy SocietyA gift at death through a bequest, trust, life insurance policy, retirement plan, or other deferred arrangement is an excel-

lent way to create or enhance a legacy. The gift may establish a new fund or add to an existing fund. The Foundation

accepts those gifts at the death of the donor and carries out the donor’s charitable wishes.

The Legacy Society provides an avenue for the Foundation to thank donors who have planned a future gift and recognize

them during their lifetime. Please contact the Community Foundation if your name should be included as a member of the

Legacy Society or if you would like more information about creating your legacy.

“We believe that the Elder

Care Mission to serve at risk

elders in our community

is very important. Our ve

year involvement with the

organization led us to look

for a way to continue

supporting their important work.

Establishing an endowment fund seemed

to be a good way to easily contribute on

an ongoing basis.

We hope the annual distribution from the

fund will help serve more seniors with

meals or provide other support that will

help them stay safe and healthy in their

own homes.” - Jim & Theresa Croteau

15th Annive ary Cele ation

Match DayDONOR ADVISED FUNDTo showcase FindLearnGive.org, the Foundation held the rst community wide online Match Day.

Match Day was an online fundraising event made possible through the Knight Foundation and the

Ethel and Edwin Ramsey Fund. Donors had the opportunity to double their gifts to their favorite

charity with matching funds from the Foundation. The community’s response and generosity was

remarkable. On Match Day, 445 donors made contributions totaling more than $70K to their favorite

organizations on FindLearnGive.org. With the community’s support and matching funds, Match Day

raised $103,000 for local nonpro ts.

The Foundation hopes to offer a second match day in the fall of 2013 – watch for details.

The Community Foundation celebrated its 15

Year Anniversary in April of 2012. Many of the

Foundation’s long standing friends attended the

Celebration including current and past board

members, emeritus directors, founders, found-

ing members, ambassador society, fund hold-

ers, nonpro ts, current and former investment

committee members, advisors as well many

others in the community that have a connection

to the Foundation.

The Celebration was a great opportunity for the

Foundation’s board and staff to thank friends

and the community for embracing the Founda-

tion’s mission the past 15 years.

“I saw Match day as an

opportunity to add a little

cash to the General Fund of

charities I already support.

Having my donation doubled

was a motivator for me. ”

- Cecilia Loeb, Donor

“Match Day was so

exciting!  It was an ideal

way to highlight Leadership

Tallahassee to our members

and generate “buzz”

about non-pro ts to the

community at large.”

- Barbara Boone, Executive Director Leadership Tallahassee

“Match Day was a very

creative way to motivate

donors to give. Providing the

chance for a gift to leverage

additional funding was a

great incentive for me to go

that extra mile.”

- Marjorie Turnbull, Donor

“There are many nonpro ts

that I support listed on the

website and I decided it

would be a good time to

donate.”

- Beth Desloge, Donor

“We are incredibly grateful

to the Knight Foundation

and the Community

of the Women Can Run!

project. Encouraging and

preparing more women to

run for public of ce is an important step

towards women’s greater representation

in elected leadership. Diversity in

perspectives and experiences elevates

political dialogue and policy decisions. “

- Haley Cutler, Executive Director The Oasis Center for Women & Girls’

“Knight Foundation’s

process by identifying important social

issues affecting their community; voting

and selecting one issue to change;

program would not be

possible”

$137,313 in grants to the local community. The grants funded 8 local projects each

encouraging an informed, engaged community in alignment with Knight’s priority area.

The Knight Fund was created in 2004 as part of Knight’s Communities Program to improve

the quality of life throughout the country where the Knight Brothers previously owned

newspapers.

The Community Foundation is pleased to serve as a vehicle for the Knight Foundation and

assist Knight in funding important projects in our community.

Your Resource forINFORMATION ABOUT LOCAL NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS

In November 2012, the Foundation launched its rst initiative, FindLearnGive.org. The website is an online

database of local nonpro ts.

FindLearnGive.org is a powerful tool serving as

a resource to nd local nonpro ts, learn more

about them and give if you wish. The database

contains comprehensive information on each

organization’s people, programs, nancials and

governance. FindLearnGive.org provides a high level of transparency for potential donors and the community

helping donors make informed decisions.

In addition, the website provides the opportunity for data collection to analyze and report back to the

community on the local nonpro t sector as a whole or in speci c areas i.e. capital campaigns, governance,

management, etc.

With more than 60 organization pro les on the site, we hope you will visit FindLearnGive.org to learn more about

your favorite charities and discover new ones.

“As we celebrate Leadership Tallahassee’s 30th Anniversary, our pro le was an instrumental assessment tool to both highlight our successes and identify gaps in service. We are pleased to show

we have policies and procedures currently in place to keep our

organization strong and to give our members and funders con dence in us.”

- Barbara Boone, Executive Director Leadership Tallahassee

“Completing the Big Bend Hospice pro le on FindLearnGive.org represents a unique opportunity for our organization.  The site provides a credible and trusted location for charitably inclined members of our community to review in-depth information about our culture,

mission and available services and how to support them.”

- Nigel E. Allen, Executive Director Big Bend Hospice Foundation

“We believe the completion of the FLG.org pro le demonstrates that our organization operates under a high standard of accountability. We also think the website is a tool that will be used by serious contributors and will attract new donors to our mission.”

- Sheila Salyer, Executive Director Tallahassee Senior Citizens Foundation

“Our pro le on FindLearnGive.org gives donors and supporters an easy way to learn more about Brehon.  The process showed us Brehon is among those organizations exercising best practices. We are receiving inquiries and donations via this presence.” - Jackie Malone, Executive Director Brehon Family Services
