Canadian Swim Patrol...A Natural Progression with Swim KidsIt provides participants with a much broader and more complete experience of the water: the dangers, the excitement and strategies for safety.
ProgressiveThe program consists of three levels or award crests: Rookie, Ranger & Star. Within each award crest there are three success seals focusing on Water Proficiency, First Aid and Recognition & Rescue.
ChallengingYoung swimmers will be challenged physically and mentally as they work through each seal to achieve distance & time bench marks that will prepare them for Bronze Star (see page 15 for the Lifeguard progression)
Self-PacedProgram is structured so that skills are successfully developed. Swimmers have the opportunity to spend as little or as much time as needed to accomplish their bench mark by working on different seals in all three levels at the same time.

ARE YoU UnSURE AboUT STREnGTH TRAInInG?Here are the facts…..
myth: Cardio is enough to help me lose fat and keep me fit.Fact: Just like eating a balanced diet, you need to balance your workouts. Your body needs a mix of resistance exercise, cardiovascular conditioning, and stretching to perform at its best and reduce the risk of injury. The more muscle you have, the more energy (calories) is burned at rest, enhancing your fat burning potential.
myth: I need to do more crunches to lose fat in my midsection.Fact: You cannot choose where you lose your fat. By becoming stronger in one particular area (abs, arms, thighs) it does not decrease the amount of fat covering it. Our fat reduction pattern is determined by our genes, age, and hormones. Overall body fat must be reduced to lose fat in any particular area through exercise and proper nutrition.
myth: Lifting weights will cause women to look bulky.Fact: Women have difficulty developing large mass due to lower testosterone levels than men. But, resistance training does increase bone density levels which can help reduce the risk or slow the progression of osteoporosis in the future. myth: I’m too old to see the benefits of strength training.Fact: Loss of muscle mass is inevitable as we age but by incorporating some type of resistance training, it will slow down the rate of loss and keep you living more independently. Anyone at any age can start strength training as long as you progress your exercises appropriately to match your abilities.
myth: Lifting weights will become boring and takes up too much time.Fact: There are many different exercise choices for each muscle group and beginners can see strength benefits very quickly. Strength training is not limited to just weights. There are plenty of types of equipment (even your own body weight) that will help you become stronger. Workouts can be done in as little as 30 minutes or broken up throughout the day.
For more ways to reduce boredom in your strength workouts, try one of our drop-in classes or registered programs where an instructor can lead you through a fun and safe workout. We also offer personal and group training where a certified personal trainer can help you get started and design a customized workout program based on your needs and strength goals. Call (250) 428-7127 or email [email protected] if you have questions.
