This Month’s Liturgy at a Glance December is full of celebrations, coming from both the official liturgy of the Church and from popular piety. The time of Advent and the reading of this month lead us to delve into the salvation offered to us by the coming Christ to the world. The Old Testament reading, taken mostly from the prophetic book, offer a vision of a harsh reality, but with hope of abundance and joy; they speak of a time full of comfort and a new world. On the other hand, the second reading offer the vision of the certainty of salva-tion in Christ; while, all the readings taken from the Gos-pel encourage vigilance and a joyful trust in the Christ who comes to save. On December 8th we celebrate the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, patroness of the United States of America. Many other Marian devotions have their day December, such as our lady of Bethlehem and our Lady of Guada-lupe. This month we also celebrate some significant saints like Francis Xavier, patron of the missions; John of the Cross, the greatest Spanish mystic writer; and Laza-rus, the saint of the poor and sick, whose devotion is very important in Cuba. The Advent wreath accompanies us during all of this time, as a visible sign of waiting. Start-ing on the 17th, the O Antiphons are prayed in immediate preparation for Christmas. We also have the Posadas, with all their meaning of openness to Christ and hospital-ity. In short, it is a month of many celebration, in which we must reflect about the true meaning of Christmas in faith the preparations and the parties.

LIGHT THE II CANDLE

The prophets keep alive Israel’s hope. We, as a symbol, light these candles. The old trunk is sprouting, the desert blooms. All humanity is shaken, because God had planted in our flesh. May each of us, Lord open our lives to be born, and keep up the hope in our hearts.

Habrá una colección especial de Adviento en nuestra parroquia. Un regalo para el niño Jesús. Consiste en un dólar al día ($ 1.00). Comenzará el 1 de diciembre. La Liturgia de este mes de un vistazo Diciembre está lleno de celebraciones, tanto de la liturgia oficial de la Iglesia como de la piedad popular. El tiempo de Adviento y la lectura de este mes nos llevan a ahondar en la salvación que nos ofrece el Cristo venidero al mundo. La lectura del Antiguo Testamento, tomada principalmente del libro profético, ofrece una visión de una realidad dura, pero con esperanza de abundancia y alegría; Hablan de una época llena de confort y de un mundo nuevo. Por otro lado, la segunda lectura ofrece la visión de la certeza de la salvación en Cristo; Mientras tanto, todas las lecturas tomadas del Evangelio fomentan la vigilancia y una alegre confianza en el Cristo que viene a salvar. Oplatki Christmas Tradition

HOW TO CELEBRATE THE OPLATKI TRADITION The tradition of the Oplatki originated in Poland during Early Christian times. The Oplatki are enjoyed by families, typically right before the Christmas Eve meal. The entire family will gather around the table with the Oplatek. Generally the eldest member of the family will begin by breaking off a piece of the wafer and passing it to another family member with a blessing, simply consisting of what you desire for your loved one in the upcoming year –good health, success, or happiness. The purpose of this act is primarily to express ones unconditional love and forgiveness for each member of his or her family. THE SYMBOLISM The significance of the Oplatki Christmas wafer is in that it shadows the Eucharistic meal that Catholics par-ticipate in at each Mass. Just as we share in the Eucharist as one family in Christ and receive Christ’s love through the Eucharist, the Oplatki allows for one’s immediate family to come together and share the love they have for one another. This symbolism is deepened by the fact that the name of the town where Jesus Christ was born, Bethlehem, means "House of Bread," which makes the Oplatki tradition an especially beau-tiful way to celebrate the charity and unity so characteristic of the Christmas season. YES, EVEN FOR FAMILY PETS! Although this tradition is primarily enjoyed by the human members of the family, even the family pets can partake in this meal. Traditionally, this corresponds to the animals that were the first to greet Christ at his birth. A SYMBOL OF FAMILY UNITY The Oplatki tradition is one that is easy, fun, and deeply meaningful to introduce to the family anytime dur-ing the long Christmas season.This is a heartwarming tradition that will complete your family’s time togeth-er during the Christmas season.

Where Do I Meet Jesus?

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (Jn 14:6).

Life is a journey. It is a path, a journey to meet Jesus. It is encounter Jesus, to watch him, to let himself be watched over by Jesus, because Jesus watches us with love. He loves us so much and he is always watching over us. To encounter Jesus also means allowing oneself to e gazed upon by him. And the most beautiful gift is to meet Jesus. We meet Jesus every day. How? Our whole life is an encounter with Jesus: in prayer, when we go to Mass, when we receive Communion, when we visit the sick, when we help the poor, when we think of others, when we are not selfish, when we are loving—in these things we always meet Jesus. “But, Father,” you might say, “you know that this journey is horrible for me, I am such a sinner, I have committed many sins. How can I encounter Jesus?” But remember that the people whom Jesus most sought out were the greatest sinners. And those who believed themselves righteous criticized him for this saying: this is no true prophet, look what kind of company he keeps! And Jesus said: I came for those in need of salvation, in need of healing. And along the way Jesus comes, heals us and forgives us-for we are sinners.

¿Dónde encuentro a Jesús?

“Yo soy el camino, y la verdad, y la vida. Nadie viene al Padre, sino por mí” (Jn 14: 6).

La vida es un viaje. Es un camino, un viaje para encontrarse con Jesús. Es encontrar a Jesús, mirar-lo, dejarse cuidar por Jesús, porque Jesús nos mira con amor. Él nos ama tanto y siempre nos está cuidando. Encontrar a Jesús también significa dejarse contemplar por él. Y el regalo más hermoso es conocer a Jesús. Nos encontramos con Jesús todos los días. ¿Cómo? Toda nuestra vida es un en-cuentro con Jesús: en oración, cuando vamos a misa, cuando recibimos la comunión, cuando visita-mos a los enfermos, cuando ayudamos a los pobres, cuando pensamos en los demás, cuando no so-mos egoístas, cuando somos Amar, en estas cosas siempre encontramos a Jesús. “Pero, padre”, po-drías decir, “sabes que este viaje es horrible para mí, soy un pecador, he cometido muchos pecados. ¿Cómo puedo encontrarme con Jesús? ”Pero recuerda que las personas que Jesús más buscó fueron los más grandes pecadores. Y los que se creían justos lo criticaron por este dicho: este no es un ver-dadero profeta, ¡mira qué tipo de compañía tiene! Y Jesús dijo: Vine por aquellos que necesitan sal-vación, que necesitan sanidad. Y en el camino viene Jesús, nos sana y nos perdona, porque somos pecadores.
