WHAT IS DEDFEST?
In 2008, Edmonton audiences receieved their rst taste of cinematic mayhem when the DEADMONTON Horror Film Fest was unleashed. The festival was a massive success, selling out all three of its evenings. One year later, and with a new name, DEDfest returned to wreak havok, and establish Edmonton as one of the most vibrant alternative and independent lm centres in NoNorth America. Flash forward four years, and DEDfest, now established at the historic Garneau Theatre, is heading into its sixth edition.
SInce our inception, we`ve played host to such genre lm heavyweights as Michael Biehn (Terminator, Aliens) and Danielle Harris (Halloween), as well as up-and comers like ASTRON 6 (Father`s Day, Manborg). We`ve screened lms from our own backyard and lms from as far away as Japan. Our programming has expanded to include sci-, action, fantasy, cult, and eveven documentaries. And 2013 promises to be our biggest year yet.
DEDfest has also become an active force in our lm community. We`ve partnered with other lm festi-vals, like the Global Visions Film Fest, to expand our programming. DEDfest has also worked with both the Edmonton and Alberta Film Commissions to promote our city as not only a place to view lms, but a place to make lms as well. We are active in encouraging local taletalent as well as promoting Edmonton as a viable lming location to outside talent. This year will see the local lm collective HOUSE OF HEATHENS, which was rst exposed to audiences at DEDfest, head to the prestigiuous Fantasia International Film Festival with their rst production. And this year will also see the introduction of a lm market at this years DEDfest.
In short, our mission is to promote Edmonton as the coolest place to be for both lm fans and lmmakers.
Unconventional and wildly popular, the DEDfest horror lm festival makes a unique and valuable contribution to the depth and breadth of our Capital Citys international appeal and reputation.
Edmontons creative communities are among the most celebrated and diverse in the world and DEDFest certainly demonstrates Edmontonians drive to be the rst, biggest, best and most diverse at whatever we tackle.
