From the Desk of Father Ed:
Dear Parishioners,
This Sunday is the 2nd Sunday of Easter, which is also known as Divine Mercy Sunday. On February 22, 1931, Our Lord appeared to Sister Faustina of the Congregation of Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy in Poland bringing with Him a wonderful message of Mercy for all mankind. During the course of Jesus' revelations to Saint Faustina on the Divine Mercy, he asked on numerous occasions that a feast day be dedicated to the Divine Mercy and that this feast be celebrated on the Sunday after Easter.
Concerning the Feast of Mercy, Jesus said to Saint Faustina:
Whoever approaches the Fountain of Life on this day will be granted complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. (Diary of St. Faustina 300)
I want the image (Divine Mercy Image) solemnly blessed on the first Sunday after Easter, and I want it to be venerated publicly so that every soul may know about it. (Diary 341)
My daughter, tell the whole world about My Inconceivable Mercy. I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment.
Yes, the first Sunday after Easter is the Feast of Mercy, but there must also be deeds of mercy, which are to arise out of love for Me. You are to show mercy to our neighbors always and everywhere. You must not shrink from this or try to absolve yourself from it. (Diary 742)
The Decree of Indulgence for Divine Mercy Sunday grants a plenary or full indulgence to those who satisfy certain conditions established by the Church and a partial (incomplete) indulgence to those who fulfill some but not all or the conditions. A plenary indulgence means that by the merits of Jesus Christ, the Blessed Virgin Mary and all the saints, the full remission of the temporal punishment due to sacramentally forgiven sins is obtained. The person becomes as if just baptized and would fly immediately to heaven if he died in that instant.
At all the weekend Masses we will be displaying the Image of Divine Mercy, which will be blessed and venerated. Come and join us at 3:00 Pm on Divine Mercy Sunday for Eucharistic Adoration, Reconciliation, and the recitation of the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet and experience the Lord’s Mercy!
Our Lady Queen of Peace, pray for us,
Father Ed, Administrator
Parish Life:
It was wonderful to see so many people participate in the three holy days of the Triduum, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday (Easter Vigil), and Easter Sunday. A special thanks to all those who contributed to making the liturgies so beautiful and pleasing to God, especially our music director, Margaret Moeckel, her husband John, the choir, our staff, and many parishioners who worked behind the scenes and helped out. Thank you to the Hautau Family for donating the beautiful Easter flowers that adorn our Sanctuary. Thank you for the generous financial contributions to your parish during this time; it is wonderful to see the generosity of so many people who love and support their parish here in Branchville.
Congratulations to our 10th graders for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation, and I invite you to keep them in your prayers as they continue to grow in faith and give witness to the world of God’s great love for us. I want to especially thank our catechists for the many hours and hard work they have provided in teaching the faith to our youth and especially in preparing them to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. I also want to thank our Coordinator of the Religious Education Program, Diana Rimshnick, for organizing the Liturgy, her leadership and strong faith.
