A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE— Jesus connects PEACE and FORGIVENESS in today’s Gospel. In our families we will only experience peace to the extent we forgive one another. Peace is purchased with the currency of forgiveness. When we allow our anger and pride to lock out others, we also lock out peace and harmony. PEACE BE WITH YOU—As the Father has sent me, so I send you. The new life in Christ that we celebrate at Easter is given to us in Baptism so that our life will never be same. We receive the Holy Spirit and are filled with God’s grace to be sent forth to fulfill God’s will, just as Jesus did. The goal of On Mission for The Church Alive! is for us to be renewed in our baptismal mission to go forth as followers of Jesus and lead others to Him. How can you share the peace and love of God with those who need it most so that their lives can be transformed? Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to stay involved.

Today is the octave of Easter, the eighth day in our celebration of the Lord’s resurrection from the dead. During this past week, each Mass has been an echo or reverberation of our Easter Sunday celebration, like an eight-note bar of music. The Church purposefully brings these eight days to a crescendo of liturgical joy on this Second Sunday of Easter so as to attune the Catholic ear to the glorious music of Christ’s resurrection. This Second Sunday of Easter is also known as the Sunday of Divine Mercy because at the canonization Mass of St. Maria Faustina Kowalska on April 30, in the Jubilee Year 2000, St. Pope John Paul II proclaimed that every

Second Sunday of Easter would also be call Divine Mercy Sunday. Coincidentally, St. Pope John Paul II died twelve years ago on the vigil of Divine Mercy Sunday. During his 26 1/2 years as Vicar of Christ, one of his early encyclicals was entitled “Rich in Mercy” to describe the love of God the Father. St. Maria Faustina Kowalska, a Sister of Our Lady of Mercy, was born in Poland in 1905 and died in 1938. In 1931, she experienced a mystical vision of Jesus Christ and was instructed by the Lord to promote devotion to God’s mercy through the recitation of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and the image of Jesus with rays of white and red light emanating from his heart as depicted in the popular painting, symbolically representing the water and blood flowing from the wounds of Christ on the cross. This beautiful prayer, devotion and image is nothing more than the contemplation of the Paschal Mystery the Church has celebrated for two millennia, i.e., the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Sacred Scriptures, both the Old and New Testaments, attest to this fundamental tenant of our faith that God is “rich in mercy” and would love us into freedom if we but trust in His merciful love given to us in Jesus Christ. Pope Francis recognized that mercy is the heart and meaning of the gospel and so declared a Jubilee Year of Mercy that began on December 8, 2015, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary and concluded on November 20, 2016, the Solemnity of Christ the King. Our Lady of Grace Parish, with the churches across the world, will pray for and celebrate God’s Divine Mercy this Sunday by praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy before the Blessed Sacrament at 3:00 p.m. Come experience the freedom of our Father’s merciful love in prayer, song, procession and adoration on this octave of Easter in this Jubilee Year of Mercy. Rev. Richard A. Infante, Pastor

The priests, parishioners and staff would like to welcome everyone here today celebrating Mass with us at Our

Lady of Grace Parish.
