Football Team off to a Flyer Well done to the school football team under their manager Mr Hurst who beat Salterhebble 5-1 this Wednesday at the LJS Stadium. On Thursday at Withinfields the match was cancelled. We are hoping this Well done to Oliver Blamires! On Sunday, Oliver competed in a swimming gala at the new Huddersfield Leisure Centre. He did 100m breaststroke in the open age range World Book Day This much anticipated day is stacking up to be a real treat on Thursday next week. We have book shop visits or each class and activities in school too. There are competitions and a reading competition for older children at Rastrick Library against other schools. Thank you to Mrs Hemingway our literacy Manager for organising the day and to Mrs Mc Free Family Learning is back next week with Mother’s Day Pots. Join us at school for lots of fun between 3.20-4.50pm on Thursday 25 th February 2016. A Fantastic £313.03 was raised for BBC Children in Need this year; a certificate has been received in school. Thank you to everyone who contributed in any way.

Football Team off to a Flyer Well done to the school football team under their manager Mr Hurst who beat Salterhebble 5-1 this Wednesday at the LJS Stadium. On Thursday at Withinfields the match was cancelled. We are hoping this match will be re-arrranged soon.

World Book Day and Reading Week Longroyde are happy once again to be supporting World Book, but more than tis, there will be activities going on throughout the week. I thought it might be helpful to explain to parents what these will be.

Monday Special Assembly with a library Who Wrote? competition at lunchtime. Tuesday Library Guess Who? competition at lunchtime. Wednesday Special Assembly with a library Book Cover competition at lunchtime Thursday World Book Day, Years 3-5 visiting Just Books with their vouchers. Radical Reading Competition. Activities throughout the day in class including book plates. Friday Special Assembly with library Who’s the Author? competition at lunchtime. Newsletter special edition featuring photographs from the week. Rewards assembly will award prizes from the week including 50th person to borrow a book, 500 word story competition and others from the week.

Children have been asked to bring a book from home on Thursday this is so they can glue a book plate which they will create into their book. This can be the start of their home library which we are encouraging them all to have. If you are not happy for your child to glue a plate in just let us know.

Would You Believe It? St Matthew’s Church Holiday Club is opening its doors on Sunday 20th March between 11.30am and 3.30pm. Children aged u to 1 years are very welcome. All you need do is bring a packed lunch. There are application forms in the office and there is no charge at all. The theme this year is Would You Believe It?

Book Week Fun   Here is a sample of the fun we will have next week during Book Week. We have several competitions for the children to join in with. One is a mystery reader competition. Can you guess the mystery staff reader enjoying Harry Potter?
