Plug the mains adapter into the mains supply (step C) and wait for the unit to switchon.
StartQuick set up > Overview of controls and connectors > Symbols on the screen
Start
Wait until Chronos II completes an autotune for available DAB stations and tunes to aDAB station (this takes about 1 and a half minutes).
Set energy saving mode.When you see the message Enable energy saving? press the Select buttonSelect On or Off to switch energy saving mode on or off (use the Select and+/ buttons).
When energy saving mode is switched on, the radio uses less than 1 Watt of power instandby because it does not collect and store Intellitext messages in standby. It stillcollects and stores Intellitext messages when the radio is switched on.
You can switch energy saving mode on or off at any time in the energy saving menu.

1. Press the +/ buttons to browse through the list of available stations, which appears on thebottom line of the display.
2. Press the Select buttonto tune to a new station.

Changing the information shown on screen1. In DAB or FM, press the Info button and repeat to cycle through the various information display
options listed below:
Scrolling text Info broadcast by most DAB stations and some FM (RDS) stations.
Full screen time Displays the time and the alarm bell icon if any alarms are set. You canalso display the full screen time when the unit is in standby (press Info).
Time and date Displays the time and date updated by the DAB or FM (RDS) signal.
Programme type Describes the content of the current DAB or FM (RDS) station, e.g., PopMusic.
Multiplex name Displays the DAB multiplex in which the current station is broadcast.
Multiplex info Displays the channel and frequency of the current DAB multiplex, e.g., 12B.
Bit rate Displays the bit rate (audio compression level) of the current DABstation and a stereo/mono indicator.
Signal quality Displays DAB signal quality: 85 to 100 Good, 70 to 84 OK, 0 to 69poor.
Signal strength Displays a meter illustrating the strength of the DAB or FM signal.
Stereo mode Indicates whether the current FM broadcast is in stereo.
Storing and Selecting presetsStore up to 10 DAB and 10 FM radio stations for easy access to your favourite stations.
To store a preset
1. Tune to the DAB or FM station you want to store.
2. Press the Preset button and use +/ to scroll to a preset number between 1 and 10.
3. Press and hold the Preset orSelect buttonfor 3 seconds until you see the Preset saved message.
To select a preset
When listening to DAB or FM, press the Preset buttonto access the preset list. Use +/ to browse
to the stored preset number and press Select to listen.

Setting alarms
Alarm menu overview
Setting an alarm
Chronos II has four alarms which you can set to sound at different times as either DAB, FM ortone alarms. DAB and FM alarms switch your radio on (if in standby) and tune to the station youlast listened to or a station of your choice from the preset list; tone alarms sound an alarm tone.
1. Press theAlarm button and choose Alarm 1, 2, 3 or 4 with +/ and Select.
2. Select Set alarm and choose On to turn the alarm on.
3. The default time is 7:00am. To change this, select Set time to set the time you want the alarmto sound. Adjust the hours using +/ and press Select to confirm, then repeat to adjust theminutes.

4. Select Set days. Choose when you want the alarm to repeat by pressing+/ to choose andSelect to confirm. The following options are available:

Once only The alarm will sound at the time you have selected and not recur
5. Select Set Mode to choose the type of alarm you want: DAB, FM or Tone. The current setting isdisplayed on the top line (DAB is the default).
6. For DAB and FM alarms only, press +/ to choose between Last tuned or a station you havestored to the preset list (for information on storing preset stations, see page 5).
7. Finally, select Alarm volume and set the volume of the alarm from 1 to 20.
When an alarm is set, an alarm bell icon and number will appear in the full screen timedisplay mode :

Snoozing an alarmTo temporarily silence an alarm press the Snooze button and the alarm will stop. The alarm willsound again after 9 minutes have elapsed.
Cancelling an alarm that you have snoozed
To cancel a snooze countdown and leave the unit in standby, press either theAlarm orSelectbutton, or press the Standbybutton to turn the radio on and cancel the snooze countdown.
Changing the alarm snooze timePressAlarm, scroll to Snooze time with +/ and press Select to confirm. Press +/ to changethe Snooze time between 5 and 60 minutes and press Select to confirm.

Set the sleep timerThe sleep timer switches your radio into standby after a number of minutes has elapsed.
Press the Sleep button and repeat to choose the duration of the sleep timer from 15 to 90minutes, then press Select to confirm.
Cancel the sleep timer
Press the Sleep button, cycle to Sleep Off and press Select .
Intellitext
Intellitext provides on-demand text information such as sports headlines, weather and news fromDAB stations that support the service including Virgin, BBC Radio Five Live and talkSPORT. The
text is updated by the broadcasters and stored in your radio while you listen to stations. Intellitextis listed by station and split into categories. For example, the broadcaster may send informationon Football, Cricket, Headlines, etc. When energy saving mode is switched on, Intellitext will becollected for stations that you have been tuned to for a while. If you have switched off energysaving mode, the radio will also collect Intellitext in standby (from the last station from which youviewed Intellitext) which you are able to view when you next switch on. This will increase standbypower consumption.
To view Intellitext data
1. Press Menu and select Intellitext to view a list of stations for which you have Intellitextinformation. Select a station and use +/ and Select to view Intellitext categories for thatstation, e.g. talkSPORT > FOOTBALL > NEWS. The selected information will scroll across thescreen.

Intellitext options (Menu > Intellitext > Options)
Set timeout
Choose to delete old Intellitext data after 1 week (default) or 1 day.
Clear all
Delete all stored Intellitext data immediately.
DRC value (Menu > DRC value)DRC (Dynamic Range Control) value makes the quieter sounds in a DAB broadcast easier to hearat low volume or in a noisy environment. Check with the broadcasters to find out if they use DRC.
DRC full Applies the DRC level as sent with the broadcast.DRC half DRC level is set to half that sent with the broadcast.DRC off Any DRC level broadcast will be ignored.
Station order (Menu > Station order)
Alphanumeric Lists all stations in alphanumeric order.Active station Lists active stations first on the station list.Multiplex Lists stations in groups according to their multiplex.
Trim stn. list Removes inactive stations (see page 12).
Autotune (Menu > Autotune)
Scans all DAB Band III and L-Band frequencies for stations and automatically adds any newstations found to the station list. This may take a few minutes. To stop an Autotune press Select.

Choose from Stereo or Mono (default). Mono may improve audio clarity where stereo signals are
weak.
General options
Energy saving (Menu > Energy saving)
Chronos II is designed and manufactured to minimise power consumption when the unit isswitched on and to use less than 1 Watt in standby. One way this low power consumption isenabled is by not collecting and storing Intellitext messages when the unit is in standby. You canoverride this option by switching off energy saving mode, but this will increase standby power
consumption. Two options are available:Energy saving On (the default setting)
Intellitext will be collected when you have been tuned for a short while to a station thatbroadcasts Intellitext. Intellitext data is not collected in standby, reducing power consumption.
Energy saving Off
Chronos II collects Intellitext data in standby from the station for which you last viewedIntellitext data, which increases standby power consumption.
Upgrade (Menu > Upgrade)
Upgrades to the radios firmware may be issued for Chronos II in the future to provide enhancedfunctions or improve performance. If you register your product and include an e-mail address youwill receive e-mail notification of any new upgrades for your product that are added to the supportwebsite at www.pure.com/support
How do I upgrade my radio?
If an upgrade has been issued for Chronos II you can upgrade your radio using a PCconnected to the USB port. To upgrade, select Upgrade and follow the instructions providedwith the upgrade software. Note: USB upgrade requires a PC (not a Mac) running Windows XP
and a suitable USB cable (not included).To display the version number of your radios firmware hold down the Info button for threeseconds.
