Dear Family of Holy Rosary, Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers, and to all who are like mothers to someone! Your gentle touch is so needed in our world full of vengeance, war, and other violence. We all need a mother’s presence: her gentle touch, her firm push, her nurturing presence. Even if our own mother wasn’t always gentle or firm or nurturing, we need those things from someone to be a well rounded, balanced human being. Thanks mothers for your sacrifice and care! This weekend we begin First Communions, a sure sign of spring! This might be a good time to review a few rules of etiquette regarding receiving Holy Communion. At times, we can become careless, disrespectful or even scan- dalous in the way we receive the Body and Blood of Christ. So here are a few reminders: 1. When you approach the minister for communion, a bow of the head in reverence of the sacrament is appropriate. 2. Either extend your hands at chest-level if you wish to receive in the hand, or fold your hands at chest level if you are going to receive on the tongue. 3. The minister will say “Body of Christ”, to which you respond confidently, “Amen”. 4. If you are receiving in the hand, do not grab the Host, allow the minister to place it on your open palm (it is a freely given gift!), and then immediately consume it. If you are receiving on the tongue, extend your tongue outside of your mouth to receive the host, without reaching for it. The minister will place the Host on your tongue. It is appropriate to bless yourself as you consume the Host. 5. When you receive the Precious Blood, repeat steps 1 and 3, then take the chalice with your own hands and sip from it. You may bless yourself afterwards as well. Of course, more important than our external disposition is our internal disposition. We are receiving the Body and Blood of the Christ, which indicates our union with Christ and His Church. While “everyday sins” do not prevent us from communing fully with Christ, grave sins need to be confessed in the Sacrament of Reconciliation first. And, of course, all Catholics should receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation at least once a year to stay in good spiritual health. Enjoy the beautiful month of May: both the beautiful weather as well as the life and grace that come with being in Communion with Christ and His Church. Fr. Jim Prayers for the Sick / Oración por los Enfermos Querida familia de Santo Rosario, ¡Feliz Día de las Madres a todas las madres y las que son como madres a nosotros! Su toque suave es tan necesario en nuestro mundo que está lleno de la venganza, la guerra y otra violencia. Todos necesitamos la presencia maternal: su toque, su firmeza, su presencia que nos nutre. ¡Gracias, madres, por su sacrificio y cariño! Este fin de semana empezaremos las Primeras Comuniones, ¡un signo seguro de la primavera! Es un momento apropiado hacer un repaso de la manera de comulgar correctamente. Podemos ser descuidaditos, no respetuosos, o escandalosos en nuestra manera de recibir el Cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo si no sabemos lo que estamos haciendo. Aquí hay algunos puntos importantes: 1. Cuando se acerca al ministro de comunión, una inclinación de la cabeza es correcto, como signo de respeto al Sacramento. 2. O extender las manos al nivel de pecho si recibirá la Hostia en tus manos, o juntar las manos al nivel de pecho si recibirá la Hostia en la lengua. 3. El ministro dirá, “Cuerpo de Cristo/Sangre de Cristo” y responda confiadamente, “Amén”. 4. Si recibe la hostia en las manos, no lo agarres con tus dedos, permita que el ministro coloque la Hostia en tus manos (ya que es un regalo, ¡y no deberíamos agarrar a los regalos!), y consúmelo inmediatamente. Si recibe la Hostia en la lengua, extienda la lengua hacia afuera, permitiendo que el ministro coloca la Hostia en tu lengua. No tiene que mover la cabeza para captarla. 5. Cuando recibe la Santísima Sangre, repite los pasos 1 y 3 y agarrar el cáliz con tus propias manos y haz un sorbito. Por supuesto, nuestro estado interior es más importante que las acciones. Aunque los pecados ordinarios no son suficientes a prevenir que comulga, los pecados graves tienen que ser confesado en el Sacramento de Reconciliación antes de comulgar, ¡y cada católico debería confesarse por lo menos una vez por año para asegurar su salud espiritual! ¡Disfrute este lindo mes de mayo, aprovechando del clima lindo y la vida y gracia que vienen cuando estamos en comunión con Cristo y su Iglesia!
