Treasurer's Treasurer's Hello fabulous Monsters,As you all know, the month of June has just begun and thatmeans SUMMER VACATION. Now what would be the mostexciting and most productive thing that you guys could dowhile on your long hiatus from school? Community service, obviously!

I encourage you guys to sign up for as many service events asyou can for this summer, so that you won't be desperatelytrying to get your hours done at the end of next year, whilealso cramming for finals! Service events will give you anopportunity to help others while hanging out with your friendsand getting the hours that you need for school.

Additionally, we'll be hosting a Vampire Penguin and TapiocaExpress fundraiser on Thursday, June 26th. While it may betricky to find rides to the fundraiser on that day, I'd like tocoax all of you to go with friends and to carpool. Comesupport your club and remember that this money goes towardscharities and also towards helping make field trips for YOUcheaper. You'll also get to hang out with friends and see what'schanged over the first month of summer vacation for them.

Now I'll leave you guys so you can go explore the rest of thisamazing newsletter and to continue with your summerhomework...

Happy Serving, Fellow Monsters!

Love,Eileen Eto

MESSAGE

Senior Goodbyes & AdviceI'll miss all of my friends that I've made through Key Cluband how fun it was to volunteer with them. And for allyou future Key Clubbers out there when you're out therevolunteering, always think about what great things you're

doing for the community and have fun!-Spencer Kwong

My advice is to have fun and attend events. Don't bescared to ask anyone questions; they don't bite. Also, don't

procrastinate turning stuff in time.-Timothy Tobias

I'll miss my Key Club Ohana and the countless good timesthat we had together. My advice would be to never

procrastinate and to not be afraid of trying new thingsbecause you may enjoy them.

-Jason Lee

My advice is to learn how to calculate time or you messwith people's hours and inevitably create disunity within

the club.-Colby Giang

The thing I'll miss the most about Key Club is the secondOhana i was able to form as a member even if I was amember for short period of time. I'm going to miss the

wonderful moments I spent with my friends whilevolunteering for a good cause at the same time. My adviceto new Key Clubbers is to become more active whether itbe running for a position or just volunteering more. That

will forever be one of my top regrets in high school.-Gurgagn Chand

My advice is to get out of your comfort zone and eventhough upperclassmen can be intimidating, don't let it stopyou from meeting new friends. The upperclassmen are your

mentors and are here to help you! Also, attend divisionand district events! They are a great place to bond with

your club and learn new things about the CNH District. Finally, ALWAYS RESPOND TO HOW YOU FEEL,

NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE!!! -Lauren Yee

Major EmphasisWhat is this about?Key Club International built a program where all Key Clubs andmembers could focus their energies on serving children across theglobe. The program, our Major Emphasis, is called Children: TheirFuture, Our Focus. An important element of the Major Emphasisprogram is the service initiative, which is created on a 2-year basis. Itensures that all our energies are “directed to a single area of need,to make a substantial impact." (keyclub.org). The current serviceinitiative is Project Eliminate (see pg. 8).What role does Franklin Key Club play? The main way we, Franklin Key Club, contribute to the MajorEmphasis is by fundraising for charities dedicated to serving children. These include Key Club International's partner organizations: UNICEF,March of Dimes, and Children's Miracle Network; as well as PediatricTrauma Program. How can I, a member, help?Participate in fundraisers and pay your dues on time! These dues alsobenefit YOU the member.

Key Clubbers show their love for one another in front of asign pledging peace, love, and hope for cancer survivors.

Key Clubbers thank cancer survivors for coming to the Relay.

Ryan Santiago (incoming junior) “kills” cancer, which isrepresented by Nick Stringfellow (graduated senior).

Relay For Life

I was chosen out by Wanda to be "cancer" andpeople had to beat me. One little girl actually startedpounding me with her fists, but that was okay. I got to seea lot of the Key Clubbers from our division and meet alot of new people. It was a lot of fun. Even though I'mgraduating, (like you think I would chill and do my ownthing), I was able to outreach a little bit more instead.

Next year you should go if you can. Raising even alittle bit of money helps, and even though we didn't reachour team goal, we had a lot of people come and donate, which was great, participate. It was a lot of fun.

Nick Stringfellow

what went down

Sharon HsuFor me, personally, this was my first Relay for Life

and it was really fun. Though there wasn't as many peopleas there probably were last year, it was really cool becauseI got to meet a lot of people from other schools.

Consumnes Oaks kept a jail where you paymoney to get people arrested. There was one personfrom Laguna Creek who kept getting arrested, which wasreally funny because we'd be playing a game, and in themiddle of the game, he'd get arrested; that happened like10 times. Perfect right?

At Relay for Life (5/17 to 5/18), Key Clubbers fromDivision 7 South and many other organizations, includingModel UN and American Cancer Society, joined togetherin a 24-hour relay to show support and fundraise to helpcancer patients. Activities during the relay included ascavenger hunt, walking around the track, and hanging outwith other Key Clubbers.

One of the most delightful occurrences was seeingMr. Mendoza, a Franklin High School teacher who retiredhalfway through the 2013-2014 school year because of hisown fight with cancer.

Franklin Key Club raised $345, but our goal was$1000. Nevertheless, we seek to reach the goal we set nextyear for sure!

Do you know what'slovelier than wearing glow gear?Assembling it in mass quantitiesin one hour. Yeah! During theNow Glowing Fun Run (5/17),volunteers prepared glow gear tobe handed out to the runners. Ithought we were going at adecent pace, even though thewind was blowing ferociously, causing some of the gear to rollaway. How wrong I was.

When Cassandra Zhou

attempted to pull the glowsticks out of the box we threwthem in after stringing them, the outcome was atrocious.Even Celena Yee, who is reallygreat at untangling things, couldn't salvage the majorityof the wreck. When therunners came, we were left tohand out all the other glowgear and the packages wedidn't have enough time toassemble.

May DCMMay DCMAfter leaving the Elk

Grove GO Festival, I took nap inmy mom's car near Rotary Groveto wait for the DCM to begin.Upon waking up, I found a beeon the window and quickly tooka photo of it. CNH Bees mascotright? Awesome!

After my siblings and mymother returned from their funat the park, they told me thatRotary Grove was occupied.'Odd. Isn't that usually where theDCM is?' I thought. I spottedEileen Eto rolling water balloonson a skateboard and decided tojoin her.

We tried contactingCynthia Tze, the AdministrativeAssistant, for information, and

interact in all of the variousactivities. I liked that my shift didnot involve much heavy liftingwork and thus I was able to fullyappreciate just aiding the eventand spending time with otherfellow volunteers.” At the end of the race, we wereassigned to set up umbrella tables. Also, we were delighted to findthat Zach Groves, a Franklin KeyClub alumni, had won the race.Go Zach! apparently, everyone was on their way. After a lot of waiting around

under random trees, the Caring for Craftsevent finally started. I handed out cookiesand wandered around talking to otherKey Clubbers happily as I loomed a babyhat.

Since the event started late, theCaring for Crafts event ended earlier thanI liked. However, I continued to loom asPresidents rapped out their club updatesand bade for pies to throw at peoples'faces in the name of fundraising forProject Eliminate. It was quite hilarious.

At the conclusion of the updates, the Division Leadership Team attemptedto begin a series of civilized water balloongames in exchange for $4 each fromparticipants.

Haha. Were they in for a surprise. It erupted into an all out water balloonwar within 10 minutes. I opted out andchose to loom under some trees withEileen Eto and Andrew Yu. It was quitepeaceful until our soaking wet fellow KeyClubbers decided to share their love.

At the very end of the event, everyone who came to the DCM took agroup photo.
