CANADIAN ASSOCIATION OF AFRICAN STUDIES The CANADIAN ASSOCIATION OF AFRICAN STUDIES officially came into being in 1970 when the first

Annual General Meeting was held at Laval University. A new constitution was adopted and the former Canadian Committee on African Studies became the new Canadian Association of African Studies.

The aims of the Association are the promotion of the study of Africa in Canada; an improvement in knowledge and awareness of Afric and the problems and aspirations of its peoples on the part of the Canadian public; the facilitation of scholarly and scientific exchange and the provision of a link between the Canadian and African scholarly and scientific communities in particular by the publication of the CANADIAN JOURNAL OF AFRICAN STUDIES/LA REVUE CANADIENNE DES ETUDES AFRICAINES.

The members of the executive of the Association (1972-1973) are as follows: President Professor Louis Sabourin, Universit6 d'Ottawa Vice President Professor Ron Bullock, University of Waterloo Secretary-Treasurer Professor D. OXFORD UNIVERSITY COLONIAL RECORDS PROJECT

The project completed its task at the end of last year, but work continues on the preparation of guides to the larger collections of papers. Over eighty of these guides have so for been produced. As well as material of general Com- monwealth interest, they describe papers concerned with specific territories -

East, West and Central Africa, the Middle and Far East, West Indies, Pacific and other areas.

Copies of guides concerning a particular region can be obtained from The

Librarian, Rhodes Houses Library, Oxford, where the collections are housed. There is no charge, but refund of postage is welcomed.
