From the meet-and-greet and docktail party on Friday, March 23, to the patriotic flotilla that opened a full day of activities Saturday, March 24, and on through to the charity auction, this was a grand time for Grady Life enthusiasts!

Magic was made again in Fort Myers Beach, FL, during a lively weekend when the town mayor declared March 24, 2012, “Grady Fest Day” after an impressive flag-waving and horn-blaring flotilla of Grady-White boats made its way up the canal leading to the docks of the Fish Tale Marina, where the town manager sang “The Star Spangled Banner” and a coun-

cilwoman followed with “God Bless America.” Grady Fest III co-chairs Travis Fricke, Ray Jahn and George Pacharis exceeded their great show first hosted in 2010, with tremendous assistance by the committee of Bill Bissett, Jack Salis, Greg Boyd and Doug Matthews, their families and fellow Fish Tale Grady Club members.

Grady-White Owners’ Clubs from around the country were among the 300 attendees, including the twelve Florida clubs plus representatives from Grady groups in Delaware, Maryland, Mas-sachusetts, New Jersey, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia. marine insurance and financing, custom canvas and more. Special crowd pleasers included Friday performances by the Two Can Jam Band, and by young Eva Snyder playing guitar and singing her sweet tune “My Grady” about the joy found aboard her Tampa Bay Grady-White Club family’s Tournament 185. Yes, there was dancing! Brian and Cathy Hodson with the Tidewater Grady-White Club decided to attend Grady Fest when they met fellow commodores and representa-tives last summer at the club confer-ence held in Grady-White’s hometown of Greenville, NC. They traveled from Norfolk, VA, for a full week at Fort My-ers Beach including fishing with guide Alex Dolinski and George Pacharis. “Grady Fest III was exceptional!” said Brian. “This was the first Grady Fest we’ve attended,” wrote Steven and Darcy Shaddix of Ocala, FL, Sailfish 282 own-ers. “We especially enjoyed meeting fellow Grady-White owners, sharing stories and ideas, and discussing desti-nations. The seminars were very infor-mative, and we enjoyed the vendors. Climbing on board the new Grady was a special treat, but most of all, it was a pleasure to meet the dedicated people behind Grady-White. The Tarpon

Coast Grady-White Club members were extremely welcoming, and we decided to join their club.” Grady-White company associates in attendance included Chris Smith, Kris Carroll, Steve Camp, Gwen Edwards, David Neese, Bruce Richter, Shelley Tubaugh, and Joey Weller. The Fest concluded with an auctionbenefiting the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Collier County. More than $7,000 was contributed including proceeds from Fest registra-tion fees. See www.gradywhite.com/gradyfest/ for spectacular Fest photos!

Port of Egypt Marine, Southold, NY, hosted an Open House and Waterfront Festival, March 30-April 1. Eric Sorensen, author of Sorensen’s Guide to Powerboats, addressed the group on the topics of the ride and handling of planing hulls, seaworthiness, and what factors make boat ownership easy and pleasurable. Memorial Day weekend Port of Egypt and Grady-White helped sponsor the Pride of Baltimore, one of the vessels featured in the Tall Ships Challenge 2012 at the Village of Greenport–once a major whaling port and shipbuilding center. The ships were toured by as many as 60,000 people. A real family affair!

The Grady Life: Owners’ Clubs Here are highlights from recent Grady Owners’ Clubs events and outings. If you have Grady club information to share or are interested in information about Grady clubs in your

area, email [email protected]. Go to www.gradywhite.com for links to club websites.

Bayside’s Gradys, the Grady-White Owners’ Club sponsored by Duxbury, MA, dealer Bayside Marine, had a great turnout of 30 people for their Angler’s Night to hear Capt. John Bunar’s tips on how to fish for the local species. A very informative evening! This crew is plan-

ning a July 2 cruise to Boston to see tall ships from around the world and a meet-up with Middleton, MA, Baert Marine’s Northeastern Grady-White Club to parade around Boston Harbor, followed by an island picnic.

Chesapeake Bay Grady-White Club folks cruised to Solomons Island, MD, Memorial Day Weekend for roving dock parties, pool time and potlucks. The Langfelds and the Catchings hosted a potluck at the Solomons Island Yacht

Club where the grills were hot for burgers and ’dogs. Can’t wait to hear all about the results of the Sharon Finn Memorial Ladies Fishing Tournament, and see pho-tos from the 2012 Grady Palooza at Knapps Narrows coming up in August! Tri-State Marine, Deale, MD, sponsors this club.

The Lone Star Grady-White Club held its first crawfish boil in April on Nassau Bay. Six boats along with 24 guests registered for the event–the largest number of partic-ipants yet. The weather was sunny but the wind speeds were 20 to 25 knots with gusts up to 35 knots, so plans for a raft-up were scrapped until the next time. All guests, by boat or by land cruiser, arrived

The LONE STAR GRADY-WHITE CLUB GOT TOGETHER FOR A CRAWFISH BOIL, and they sure did take the cake!

The crews of six Gradys in the CHESAPEAKE BAY GRADY-WHITE CLUB cruised to Solomons Island, MD, for the Memorial Day weekend, joined by more members on land.

at the home of Paul and Kaye. With their neighbors, David and Suk, as co-hosts, they served a great feast of 70+ pounds of crawfish as well as BBQ bris-ket and ribs with all the fixin’s. Dessert was a very tasty cake adorned with the club’s logo. MarineMax of Seabrook, TX, sponsors this club.

The Southern New England Grady-White Club hosted its 2nd Annual Low Country Boil in May, to repeat last summer’s impromptu affair that was so admired by the “Wow, if you do this again, please include us!” onlookers that this time about 100 people joined the fun to watch chefs Steve Rebelowski, Stu Carroll, Tommy Clapsaddle and Fred Snyder put together the feast. Lobsters, clams, shrimp, corn, sausage and special sea-sonings went into a huge steamer topped off with brewski–the crowd was

very pleased with the results! A real tip of the chefs’ hats goes to Heidi, Tammy, Carol and Sharon for all their behind-the-scenes work. Great way to kick off the summer! Boats Incorporated, Niantic, CT, sponsors this club.

A group of Tarpon Coast Grady-White Club members accomplished an amaz-ing nine day/800+ mile trip and had a blast among really good friends when their flotilla of two Marlin 300s and an Express 305 completed a nine-day/830-mile trip in February from Charlotte Harbor on the west coast of Florida to St. Augustine, crossing Lake Okee-chobee and taking the Intracoastal. Some even went offshore for some troll-ing. The route offered abundant scenery including wildlife. Cher Clark made a video journal of the trip, set to music by Punta Gorda musician Jim Morris (Jim and wife Sharon are Grady owners, too!). You can see Cher’s video on the Grady-White YouTube channel “Boating Is Fun;” look for “St. Augustine Journey.” This club is sponsored by Ingman Marine, Port Charlotte, FL.

Join your local Grady-White Owners’ Club for friendship, fun and adventures you may not encounter on your own. Grady club activities open up a whole new world on the water (off the water, too, like this crafts date enjoyed by Donna, Juli and Linda). Plus, membership means savings on BoatU.S. dues and Unlimited Saltwater towing service. Ask your commodore how you can take advantage of these discounts. Visit gradywhite.com/clubs/ to find a club near you.

Boilmasters Stu Carroll, Tom Clapsaddle, Fred Snyder and Steve Rebelowski pour out the goodness at the SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND GRADY-WHITE CLUB’S Low Country Boil. Jim Wall is happy with his plateful!

South Shore Marine’s LAKE ERIE GRADY-WHITE CLUB members had two great seminars to get them through the winter, including one in March that starred this Seafarer 226.

A group of TARPON COAST GRADY-WHITE BOAT CLUB members had a blast among really good friends when their flotilla of two Marlin 300s and an Express 305 completed a nine-day/830-mile trip from Charlotte Harbor on the west coast of Florida to St. Augustine, crossing Lake Okeechobee and taking the Intracoastal. Larry Wangberg writes last February, “After a great 650 mile run from San Carlos across the Sea of Cortez to Santa Rosalia and then down the Baja coast, Unleashed is now in La Paz. The beauty of Baja where the desert and the mountains meet the sea is truly very special. The many islands are also terrific! The fish we caught (like these giant yellowtail) were the talk of Costa Baja Marina where our Grady-White Express 330 more than held its own with many yachts over 100 feet.”

Wounded Warriors Dear Anchorline:My fishing club, Maryland Saltwater Sportfishermen’s Association, Annapolis Chapter, sponsors a Wounded Warriors fishing trip each year. We take about 40 wounded warriors, their families and caregivers from Walter Reed Hospital out for a day’s fishing. We have about 35 sponsors that provide cash and in-kind services and goods for the event–Tri-State Marine, where I bought my Grady, was a sponsor this year. After fishing we have an awards banquet at the Fleet Reserve Club in Annapolis. There are plaques for the three biggest fish and prizes for everyone. It’s a feel-good day for both the warriors and the men and women in the club–giving a little back to those who have given so much. I’m sharing a picture of my crew aboard my Express 305.

Kris Carroll, president Eddie Smith, Jr., chairman, ceo

Dear Grady-White Owner:

For smartphones

Summer is finally here–and nearly everyone in our hemisphere can say it’s boating season! Wherever we travel near water, we see our boats being enjoyed by some of the nicest, most interesting people–that would be you! It gives us immense pleasure to see the work at which our craftspeople and factory associates excel make so many folks exceedingly happy! We also are honored by recent recognition from the Center for Coastal Conservation–marine recreational fishing and boating advocates–who chose Kris as the inaugural recipient of the Eddie Smith Manufacturer of the Year Award. This award has been established by the Center to acknowledge extraordinary commitment to conservation by manufacturers. As Mike Nussman, president of the American Sportfishing Association, said in presenting

this award, we know that conservation of America’s fishery resources is a vital part of the boating business. We and many of our associates here at Grady-White have long been active in groups including the National Marine Manufacturers Association, Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, International Game Fish Association, Sport Fishing and Boating Partnership Council, National Association of Boat Manufacturers, American Boat and Yacht Council, the Sport Fishing Institute, and the Coastal Conservation Association. Help us set a good example with responsible boating and sportfishing!

Happy boating!

EDDIE SMITH AND KRIS CARROLL
