Weekday Mass - Beginning on Monday, May 4th, we will be live-streaming the 8:15 a.m. Mass Monday through Friday at St. Therese. To access, long on to www.Youtube.com and in the search bar, type in Steel Valley Catholic. Attention Appalachia Goers - Please join us on May 7th at 7:00 p.m. on Zoom. The Meeting ID is 924 2121 6053 and the Password is 5SCSBP. Representatives from the board will be at St. Max Hall to give you an update. After the update, we will take questions.
Confessions are back! They may be done a little differently, but at least we will have the opportunity to go. Since we have been shut down for so many weeks, we, the priests, decided on the following confession times and places until we can once again get back into our churches. Directions: You are to pull up to the priest, who will be sitting sideways in case you want to remain anonymous. If there is more than one person in a car, the others have to get out and wait behind the cone, then walk up individually. The driver should pull ahead six feet and wait for the passengers to get back in. Please keep your windows up in the car until you pull up to the confessor. Turn off all radios and cell phones. Wear a face mask. Please pull to the cones marking distance.
Confession Schedule Monday - 6:00 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. at St. Therese. Please drive down the driveway around the back of the church. The confession tent will be on the right side of the church. Thursday - 11:00 a.m. until noon at Holy Trinity. Please turn into the circle. You’ll see the tent on the left. Saturday - 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at St. Max. As you come down West 11th, you’ll see the driveway (first right). Go down the driveway and the confession tent will be on your left. If you just want a blessing, you are more than welcome to come. Remember, if you missed Mass because of the Coronavirus, there is no sin and no need to confess it.
May Crowning - As has been a long tradition at St. Maximilian Kolbe, the crowning of our Blessed Mother has been done by our May Queen. Congratulations to Anna Mae Dragojevich who was elected as this year’s May Queen. Anna Mae will crown our Blessed Mother at the 10:00 a.m. Mass next Sunday. Festival Update - We were scheduled to have a festival at St. Agnes May 13th through May 16th. It has been postponed. We will announce when a new date is set. Important note from the St. Vincent de Paul Society - REMINDER: At this time, we cannot accept any donations in the bins in the church parking lots. We will need to pay for removal of any items left. If you have spent some time lately cleaning out cupboards and drawers, please find a spot in your basement or garage to store your donations until we are open and back in business! Monetary Donations to St. Vincent de Paul - If you would like to make a monetary donation to St. Vincent de Paul, please make your check out directly to the St. Vincent de Paul Society and not the church. Food Bank - A reminder that the Food Bank at St. Rita is open on the first and third Saturdays of each month from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. For more information, please call your parish office. Please Pray - For the repose of the soul of Raymond Bodnar, former Mayor of Munhall, Landyn Cale, Joan Kampe and Harriet Solo, parishioners of 229, who recently passed away. Bereavement Ministry - As you look at these past six weeks, you will notice that over 25 people have died from our grouping and were laid to rest. This is a great opportunity to see how much we need people for our Bereavement Ministry to reach out to these families. It is so appreciated and we need more than the six people that we now have involved. Also, had all of these funerals taken place in church, our adult servers would have been pushed to the limits. We need more adult servers to volunteer. Would you consider joining one of these ministries? If so, please contact Lori Ellis at 412-462-8161 or email at [email protected].

GOSPEL MEDITATION May 3, 2020
Fourth Sunday of Easter
With whom do we converse and listen to the most? Believe it or not, the answer is ourselves. We are constantly having conversations with ourselves, and sometimes we even get caught! Our inner conversations reveal the truth about ourselves. We really cannot hide from ourselves, although we often pretend we can. By conversing with ourselves, we find solutions to our challenges, problem solve, work through our relationships, formulate opinions, run through dress rehearsals of possible conversations, and wrestle with and determine our system of priorities and values. What other voices affect the conversations we have with ourselves?
Often, voices from our past continue to haunt us. These voices cause us to mistrust our judgment, harbor anger, and cling to our fears of rejection, failure, being wrong, and the like. It is in these inner conversations that we face what holds us captive — our limitations, weaknesses, sinfulness, and stubborn ego preoccupations. We often go about our lives putting out one fire or another, keeping ourselves preoccupied and busy, and trying to stay on top of things. Intentionally or unintentionally, we find ourselves wandering off. We turn around and can no longer see our home. We look down at our feet and realize we have lost our anchor. Feeling scared, out of place, desolate, unsettled, and lonely, we realize that we are lost.
We listened to the wrong voices! In the midst of everything competing for our attention, the voice of the One who could truly call us home got muffled. We didn’t hear it. As our inner dialogues continue to play out, the one voice we need to consult — even before our own — is God’s. He is the Good Shepherd who can keep us safely where we need to be. As we graze through the stuff of our lives, we must constantly remember to look up, be attentive, and stay focused. Our habits of prayer are the only thing that can properly root us and keep us grounded. Contemplating God’s presence and developing an inner awareness of love incarnate, we will then find ourselves praying unceasingly as the days and nights and the ebbs and flows of our of lives unfold. Suddenly, the inner conversations we are constantly having are no longer just with ourselves or with voices that can lead us astray but with the Trinity, who desperately wants us to stay home.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING LIVE-STREAMING OUR MASS
As we move forward we are going to be live –streaming our Masses on only one platform and that is YouTube. This is because YouTube is available to everyone. To reach our YouTube channel, type in YouTube.com in your URL bar . Once you are in YouTube, go to the search bar and type in Steel Valley Catholic. Then click subscribe. There is no charge to subscribe. Mass will no longer be live-streamed on our Facebook page. Please note that You Tube is NOT the same as our website.
We’re all in this together While these have been certainly trying times for all of us, as a church we have been able to see some good come out of it. The walls that have once divided us seemed to have disappeared. We are able to live-stream Mass and see how beautiful each church is. Our music ministry is able to come together as a group to add to the beauty of our Mass. Members of each of our parishes stepped up to the plate to help those in need. Many of you have checked on high risk or elderly friends and neighbors. Others have dropped off food for our Food Bank. Some have made masks and donated them to anyone who needs them. Monetary donations have been made to our Food Bank as well as our St. Vincent de Paul Society. Some have even dropped off meals for the priests. Even while social distancing, wearing masks and closing our buildings, we are able to accomplish many great things to help one another.
Whether you have made a donation, made masks, checked in on someone or sat quietly and prayed, we appreciate your kindness.
As July quickly approaches and plans are moving along to become one parish, it is our hope that we can keep this momentum going. Once we are able to reopen the doors of the churches and come together again, it is time to set aside our differences and work together to become a stronger, more vibrant parish. This a new beginning. Now is an opportunity for everyone to get on board anew. You can be very much a part of what the new St. ???? will be. Please know that you remain in our prayers each day. And, if we can be of any assistance to you – if you need food, need someone to talk with on the phone, want someone to pray with you, please call upon us at 412-462-8161 or 412-461-1054.
Together we are STRONG
Raymond G. Bodnar, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2020 at the age of 86 to join his beloved wife, Jane, of 60 years. Ray was an upstanding, kind, and decent man who held a deep love of country and community. For over 53 years, Ray proudly and faithfully served his beloved Munhall community in different elected roles, including borough auditor, council member, and retired as Mayor of Munhall in November of 2017 following 31 years of contiguous elections. During his tenure as Mayor, he was an integral member of a partnership which worked towards local revitalizations, including the Waterfront and Main Street developments. He was honored by his fellow Munhall council members on February 18, 2016 when it was locally declared "Raymond G. Bodnar Day," and
again on November 5, 2017, when Allegheny County Executive, Rich Fitzgerald, extended the same recognition county-wide.
Ray's passion for community service extended to other governing bodies around Allegheny County, including the Steel Rivers Council of Government, of which he was a past President, the Allegheny County and Pennsylvania State Mayors' Associations, and began a "Munhall Government Day" for local elementary school students to participate in local government for the day which was later adopted by other municipalities and school districts. As a Korean War era veteran who served in the United States Army, Ray was dedicated to honoring past and present veterans during the annual Munhall Memorial Day parade and Veterans Day programs and was former Commander of Charles A. Griffin Post #207 that coordinated the military program and other events. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Homestead Council, the Catholic War Veterans, was a former long-time usher at St. Therese of Lisieux Church, and volunteered for many years as a coach and sponsor for the Munhall and Steel Valley baseball teams.
Ray is welcomed home by his beloved late wife, Jane (Bakaysza) Bodnar; parents, George and Anna (Dzunko) Bodnar; and siblings, Irene Celovsky, and George, Michael and John Danscak. He is survived by nieces and nephews and their families; and the residents of the Munhall community. Private services have been entrusted to the SAVOLSKIS-WASIK-GLENN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 3501 Main Street, Munhall, Pennsylvania 15120. A Memorial Service will be planned for a later date to honor and celebrate Mayor Ray Bodnar. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Therese Church, Munhall and the American Heart Association.

Pope Francis Prayer
for Protection from Coronavirus O Mary, you shine continuously on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope. We hope entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick. At the foot of the Cross you participated in Jesus’ pain, with steadfast faith. You, Salvation of the Roman People, know what we need. We are certain that you will provide, so that, as you did at Cana of Galilee, joy and feasting might return after this moment of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform ourselves to the Father’s will and to do what Jesus tells us: He who took our sufferings upon Himself, and bore our sorrows to bring us, through the Cross, to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen. We seek refuge under your protection, O Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our pleas - we who are put to the test - and deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin.
Mother’s Day Flowers It has been a longstanding tradition that pink and white carnations are placed on the Blessed Mother Altar for Mother’s Day. This is our spiritual bouquet that we offer in honor of or in memory of our mothers here on earth. We lift them up in prayer on this special day to our Blessed Mother. Even though our churches are not open, Masses are being live-streamed weekdays and Sundays at St. Therese.
On Sunday, May 10th, Mother’s Day, we will crown our Blessed Mother at 10:00 a.m. Mass. Your flowers will be placed on the altar at St. Therese. This is a beautiful way to honor our Blessed Mother as well as all mothers , living and deceased. The flowers are $3 each and one name per flower. Orders are due to later than Monday, May 4th and names will be listed in the May 12th bulletin.
Please complete the order form below and return it to one of our parish offices no later than Monday, May 4th.
