Guide for Parents/Guardians English Word Wizard- pg.79, 80 and 81. Spelling made fun- List 27 on page 58. As I have said before I do not expect you to give a test, it is up to each parent on what they feel it is an appropriate amount of work. However, it is beneficial to do the activities to become familiar with the word patterns. Reading DEAR time- Drop everything and read! Try to read for 15 minutes a day. I would love to hear about the books you are reading! I have uploaded a PDF of the BFG on the website with an audio link of me reading chapter 1 and the children can follow along to the words as I read. For this week they could read Chapter 2called “Who?” independently. Oral Language (same as last week) Discuss new ‘Birds’ vocabulary. Can you say the word and explain their meaning? Put a star beside the ones that they are unsure of. New words: write the words from the vocabulary list that they were unsure of. Play vocabulary games, e.g. lay all the words facing up on the table, you all out the definition of the word and they must point to the word that matches the meaning. After some practice, you could make it more competitive, if they get it right, they keep the word, if they get it wrong, you hold on to Hangman- pick a words form the list and play hangman. Writing Cursive handwriting practice- Practice a page of your handwriting. Report writing- Write out your full report about the native Irish Bird you have picked- you can use the worksheet provided to remind you of the titles and using your paragraphs but you can write you report in your copy or on a page. I would love for you to include a drawing of your bird and make your report colourful like it is going to be published in a magazine! (Don’t forget to read over your rough draft and check spellings and Capital letters) Free writing (if you have extra time!) Make it Monday- Make up an acrostic poem with the word BIRDS. Tell me Tuesday- Tell me all you know about a certain bird. Weigh in Wednesday- Do you think birds should be locked up in cages? Once upon a Thursday- Tell me a story about a Bird from Ireland who flies too far and ends up on an adventure.

Geography- World Map

Swallows are summer visitors to Ireland. They start to arrivehere from Africa in April.

By early September, most swallows are preparing to migrate. They flutter about restlessly, and often gather on telegraphwires. Most leave Ireland during September, with groups of theyoungest baby Swallows being the first to go. But a fewstragglers may hang around into October.

The return journey to Africa takes about six weeks. Swallowsfrom different parts of Europe fly to different destinations. Oursend up in the very south. They travel down through westernFrance and eastern Spain into Morocco, before crossing theSahara Desert and the Congo rainforest – finally reaching SouthAfrica and Namibia.

Swallows migrate during daylight, flying quite low and coveringabout 320 km each day.

Art- Camouflage

What Is Camouflage?Camouflage is where an animal has a certain colour or pattern

on their fur or skin that helps them to blend into their environment.

Concealing Colouration means that the animal is the same colouras its surroundings so that it can hide within its environment. For

example, a polar bear is white so it can hide in the snow.

Some animals camouflage into their surroundings by making themselves look like other objects.

Some animals also may have spots, stripes or patterns to blend in with trees. Can you see the animals below?
