Of this season’s experience he writes: The 2’ by 3’ platform feeder I built, along with the standard feeder attached in the middle has been a true boon to bird feeding and watching. I won the Blue Jays’ hearts long ago with my raw, in-the-shell peanuts. I’m on my third 25lb. bag for this season (I order 50lbs. at a time from Richmond, Virginia). I added raw shelled peanuts and striped sunflower seed to attract the Cardinals and that is very successful. I have at least two male cardinals and four females loving those two food additions. I have both Red-Bellied and Downy Woodpeckers enjoying the several suet feeders on and near the platform feeder. The few European Starlings seem to favor the suet as well. I have many of the smaller birds coming -- Sparrows, Finches and the like. I’m on my fourth 40lb. bag of a quality blended wild bird food, used about half of a 50lb. bag of black oil sunflower seed, 10lbs. of raw shelled peanuts (just started them recently for the Cardinals) and about 15lbs. of striped sunflower seed. I’ve also gone through about 25 suet cakes but I can’t get to all my suet cages as the snow is too high now. I am having a ball watching the birds and helping them through a very tough winter. I even have some American Crows hitting the suet and grabbing both kinds of peanuts. I won’t even start about the squirrels … A team of 20 staff, teachers, and a board member from the Spencerport Central School District took the Polar Plunge on February 8 at Ontario Beach Park in Charlotte. On a cold, dark evening in early Febru-ary, members of the Parma Town Board learned more about how the sun can help the town cut energy costs.
Chad Laurent, senior consultant and general counsel for NY-Sun PV Trainers Network and Emily Chessin, a consultant for Meister Consultants Group, gave a vir-tual presentation on Solar PV Feasibility for the Town of Parma on Tuesday, Febru-gary 3.
“I attended a solar energy seminar in November, about the potential for towns like Parma,” Supervisor Jim Smith said prior to the presentation. He noted munic-ipalities are now turning to solar energy to power municipal buildings by constructing solar farms.
During the presentation, Emily Ches-sin said now is a good time for Parma to consider going solar due to, “... high energy costs, the falling cost of solar technology, favorable regulations and aggressive in-centives.”
She noted Solar PV costs dropped 47 percent between 2010 and 2014 - from $7/watt to less than $4/watt.
Chessin also explained that if Parma decides to go solar, it could send extra elec-tricity not being used onsite back in to the electric grid in exchange for credits on the town’s utility bill. Those credits, “... can be used to offset future electricity demand,” she said.
A municipality typically partners with a third party to construct and operate a solar farm. The town and developer set up a, “... power purchase agreement,” Chessin said. “The town purchases electricity from the installer at a pre-determined price ... the developer is responsible for operations.”
Chad Laurent of NYSERDA’s NY-Sun PV Trainers Network, said municipalities typically install solar panels on places like roof tops, capped landfills and even brown-fields. He also noted there is no reason to wait for newer technology to come along as solar can easily be updated, “You could swap out panels,” Laurent noted, “it’s very modular technology.”
Laurent said the town would see energy payback in two years or less in their in-vestment in solar.
He noted solar power can, “... help to
meet municipal renewable energy goals,” with savings of, “... 17 to 30 percent off cur-rent electricity rates.”
Laurent said the process of going solar can take six to eight months and that the next step for the town would be to, “... set a realistic timeline based on regulatory re-quirements.”
Supervisor Jim Smith told the Subur-ban News/ The Herald, “The town board is very interested and I am planning on working toward getting an RFQ put to-gether.”
The Town of Williamson in Wayne Coun-ty has a solar array located on the closed Williamson landfill. According to published reports, town officials there estimate a savings of about $1 million over 25 years. Williamson is the first town in New York State to power all town-owned facilities by solar energy. Included is their water plant, wastewater treatment plant, highway ga-rage, and town office complex.
Parma Home Energy Workshop setThe public is invited to a free Home Ener-gy Workshop and Solar (Panel) PV Basics presentation on Wednesday, March 4 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Parma Town Hall.
The Pathstone home energy workshop includes program and eligibility informa-tion, energy education and application as-sistance.
Homeowners and landlords will learn how they can qualify for a free or reduced cost energy audit and receive up to $5,000 ($10,000 for landlords) in grants from the New York State Energy Research and De-velopment Authority (NYSERDA) to make energy improvements.
Low interest loans are also available through Pathstone Enterprise Center for any additional improvements.
Also on March 4, NYSERDA’s NY-Sun PV Trainers Network will present a one-hour virtual presentation on solar PV basics including Solar (Panel) PV technol-ogy and how it can reduce your electric bill; considerations for installing solar at your home; and state and federal solar PV policies and incentives to help lower home-owner costs.
The presentation will help participants feel more comfortable with solar PV and the process of going solar for their home energy needs.

Brockport’s Bob iverson guest speakerat next clarkson historical meeting
Brockport resident Bob Iverson is the guest speaker at the Wednesday, March 4 meeting of the Clarkson Historical Society. He will discuss his extensive insect collec-tion of more than 13,000 specimans.
The collection grew out of Iverson’s 50 year career at Wards Natural Science which supplied science education ma-terials for high school and college-level studies in the Rochester area. A longtime Brockport School Board member who was a great advocate for the building of the bus
garage on Owens Road and an enthusias-tic supporter of Brockport basketball and a co-founder of the basketball booster club, Iverson is well known for his community involvement.
His talk, which will include live insects as well as those collected over the years, will be at 7 p.m. at the Clarkson Academy, 8343 Ridge Road. It is free and open to the public.

Brockport High School seniors sign letters of intent
Brockport High School seniors Autumn Albrecht, Julia Dimartino and Taylor Light signed letters of intent to compete for sev-eral prestigious universities’ athletic teams earlier this school year.
Albrecht is attending the University of Vermont on an athletic scholarship for cross-country, indoor track and outdoor track, and plans to major in pediatric medicine. She is an 11-time Brockport team MVP, and at the completion of this spring’s track-and-field season, she will have 14 varsity letters. She currently holds 13 (eight individual and five relays) school track-and-field records. Her achievements include 2014 Outdoor T&F Section V Class A Champion - 800 m and 2014 Outdoor T&F Monroe County Champion - 3000m. She competed at Cross Country State Cham-pionships 2011, 2013, 2014 and at Indoor T&F State Championships 2012, 2013, 2014 and medaled as member of Intersectional
Medley Relay in 2013.Dimartino plans to attend Liberty Uni-
versity in Virginia and play for the Liberty Flames. Her stats in softball for the 2012-2014 seasons include a 0.448 batting aver-age, with 105 hits, 66 runs scored, 6 home runs and 75 runs batted in. She holds a 54-9 record. Her achievements include: AGR 2012, 2013, 204; AGR Co-POY 2013, 2014; MC D3 POY 2012, 2013, 2014 and First Team All-State 2013, 2014.
Light will study at The University at Buf-falo and compete for their softball team. Her stats for the 2012-2014 seasons include a 0.378 batting average, with 52 hits, 35 runs scored, 4 home runs and 42 runs batted in. She holds a 7-0 record. Rocco Salomone, former Head Football Coach at the College at Brockport has lost his fight against a rare form of cancer called GIST (Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors). As the cancer spread, he was using trial drugs as well as alternative therapies to combat this cancer. They are expensive and he hadn’t been able to work for some time. He is survived by his wife Kelly and three children, two in college and could use our support to help off-set the huge cost of his medical treatments.

north chili•Campbell, Everett James, age 84, died February 4, 2015, with his daughter, Bonnie Heather Campbell, by his side. He married Louise B. Campbell on February 17, 1951 and remained her husband for 63 years until her death on September 28, 2014. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army and did a tour of duty in Okinawa. He earned a bachelor’s degree in social studies from Roberts Wesleyan College, a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Denver, and a Ph.D in economics from Temple University. A career-long educator, Dr. Campbell taught more than 20 different courses and held administra-tive positions at Roberts Wesleyan College, Campbellsville College, Morehead State University, Bethel College (IN), Point Loma Nazarene College and Central Christian Col-lege of Kansas. He was active in politics for many years in western New York as a campaign staffer, speechwriter, and speaker. He also served as a campaign surrogate for President Gerald R. Ford. After his retirement from university teaching, Everett was CFO of the San Diego Rescue Mission. In 2005, he and Louise moved to Surprise, Arizona before relocating to Chicago, Illinois and, most recently to Evanston, Illinois, where they shared a house with their daughter and friend Diana Schmück. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alberta (Fredrick) Larson and a brother, Harold (Phyllis) Campbell. He is survived by his daughter,; a sister, Laverna (David) Madgwick (Alfred) Deemer and a brother, Willis (Melody) Campbell; many cherished nieces and nephews.

New Westside Challenger Tennis program launches program in April
Westside Challenger Tennis joins the Westside Chal-lenger baseball program designed for youngsters with special needs. Westside Challenger Tennis is designed especially for their individual abilities based on the United States Tennis Association motto that “people of all ages and abilities should have an opportunity to participate in the game of tennis.”
This spring, Westside Challenger Tennis matches will be held April 11, 18, 25 and May 2 at the Brock-port Central School tennis court or gym fa-cilities. The sessions will run from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. each Saturday. Partici-pants should plan on attending each of the four dates. Specially trained tennis instructors will be working with all participants providing unique skills tailored for the participant’s ability. Equipment and refreshments will be provided at no cost to the participant.
This program has a limited enrollment of twenty (20) participants accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Those interested are encouraged to get registration forms as soon as possible. These forms are available by request at [email protected].

Protect Your Joints
A healthy back and spine, of course, are vital to your well-being. The spine protects the spinal cord, which transmits signals back and forth between the brain and other parts of the body. But you have to be careful with all the body’s joints and protect them to maintain a good quality of life. Here are some tips to keep in mind during routine daily activity:
• Keep your weight under control. Every excess pound you carry puts unnecessary strain on joint, including hips, knees and ankles. Excess weight also puts strain on your feet.
• When lifting something heavy, use the powerful muscles of your legs. So bend at the knees - not the waist - to lift a heavy or cumbersome object. Don’t use your arms and back to lift a heavy weight.
• If a cane or some other form of support makes walking easier, use it. Use any device that makes daily routines more comfortable. For instance, use a cart to move groceries or luggage around, give your joints a rest.
• Wear sturdy, quality footwear. That’s one of the best ways to protect the joints in your feet, ankles and knees.
• One of the best forms of exercise, not only for the joints in your feet and legs, but for your cardiovascular and overall fitness is walking.
Talk with your family physician before embarking on any form of regular exercise. And talk with your chiropractor about other steps you can take to protect your joints.

Registration opensfor Cycle the Erie Canal tour
Registration is now open for the 17th annual Cycle the Erie Canal tour - an opportunity to bike across New York State and experience one of the most scenic and historic trails and waterways in America. The eight-day, 400-mile recreational bicycle tour from Buffalo to Albany is spon-sored by Parks and Trials New York and the New York State Canal Corporation.
From July 12 through 19, participating riders will ex-perience one of the longest trails in America as they pedal through historic canal villages and discover the small-town charm of canal communities in upstate New York. Along the way, canal historians and local experts will introduce participants to the iconic people, places and things that make the Erie Canal so unique and so impor-tant to the history of New York State and the nation. With three-quarters of the route off-road on flat and traffic-free sections of the Canalway Trail, the tour offers unparal-leled cycling for all ages and abilities.
Last year, the 2014 Cycle the Erie Canal tour drew a to-tal of 500 riders, ranging from ages 9 through 90, from 34
states as well as Australia, Canada and Israel. The $675 registration fee for this year’s 2015 Cycle the Erie Canal event includes: Camping accommodations each evening with restrooms and showers; eight breakfasts and six dinners; two refreshment stops stocked with fruit, snacks and beverages; baggage transport; daily cue sheets and marked routes; historical presentations and entertain-ment and guided tours of the Canal, historic sites, muse-ums and other attractions.
Cyclists under 18 enjoy a special half-price rate of $375. Non-cycling participants and children ages five and under can register for $150.
There are also options for interested cyclists who are unable to ride the duration of the tour. Riders are able to purchase a four-day pass that can be used from Buffalo to Syracuse and from Syracuse to Albany. Additionally, two-day weekend options are available from Buffalo to Fair-port and from Canajoharie to Albany.

Anonymous donor gifts funds for RWC Science and Nursing CenterRoberts Wesleyan College has received a $3.5 million
naming gift from an anonymous donor for the college’s new 40,000-square-foot, two-floor science and nursing building. The donor has chosen to designate the building the Crothers Science and Nursing Center in honor of Wil-liam C. and Rita Crothers. William Crothers served as Roberts Wesleyan’s ninth president from 1981 to 2002.
“We are deeply grateful for this transformative gift, which will enable first-rate educational facilities for sci-ence and nursing instruction and training,” Roberts President Dr. Deana L. Porterfield said. “The Crothers Science and Nursing Center will feature state-of-the-art classrooms, simulation laboratories and an experimental greenhouse. This new facility will double the space for sci-
ence and nursing programs, which will help Roberts at-tract the best and brightest STEM students.”
The Crothers Science and Nursing Center was designed by SWBR Architects, and LeChase Construction is the general contractor for the project. College officials broke ground on the project in March 2014 and the building is set to open in fall of 2015.
The Legacy 150 campaign was launched in May 2014, and the naming gift is the largest donation received to date. Roberts has raised $11,756,175, or 61 percent, of the $19 million goal established for the science and nursing building. The total Legacy 150 campaign goal, including endowment and scholarship expansion, is $42 million.

The bond resolution, a summary of which is published herewith, was adopted on January 21, 2015, and the validity of the obligations authorized by such bond resolution may be hereafter contested only if such obligations were authorized for an object or purpose for which the Kendall Central School District is not authorized to expend money or if the provisions of law which should have been complied with as of the date of publication of this notice were not substantially complied with, and an action, suit or proceeding contesting such validity is commenced within twenty (20) days after the date of publication of this notice, or such obligations were authorized in violation of the provisions of the Constitution.

WHEREAS, the Monroe 2-Orleans Board of Cooperative Educational Services (“BOCES”) has heretofore been created and this School District is one of the component school districts thereof;
WHEREAS, at a special election of the qualified voters of the BOCES, held on December 16, 2014, a proposition was duly approved authorizing the BOCES to construct and equip improvements to various BOCES school facilities to increase their utility for the purposes of the BOCES at a maximum estimated cost of $29,231,100 (the “Project”); and
WHEREAS, in furtherance thereof, the BOCES and each of the component school districts of the BOCES have entered into an agreement in accordance with Section 1950(14) of the Education Law providing for such construction and equipping of the Project at such maximum cost and the allocation and apportionment of such maximum cost among such component school districts, the payment by each such component school district of its respective share to the BOCES and other matters incidental thereto; and
WHEREAS, said agreement has heretofore been duly executed by BOCES and by each of the component school districts thereof; WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 1950(14) of the Education Law, neither the approval of the voters of the component school districts, nor the voting of a special tax or a tax to be collected in the installments are conditions precedent to the adoption by the boards of education of each respective component school district of BOCES of bond resolutions authorizing the financing of their respective proportionate share of the aforesaid maximum costs;
WHEREAS, the BOCES has heretofore determined, as lead agency, that the purpose hereinafter described constitutes an action under the State Environmental Quality Review Act of the State of New York and the applicable regulations thereunder which will not have a significant impact on the environment; and
WHEREAS, it is now desired to provide for the financing by this School District of its share of the aforesaid maximum costs, as authorized by said Section 1950(14) of the Education Law;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Education of the Kendall Central School District, New York (hereinafter referred to as the “School District”), as follows:
Section 1. The specific object or purpose to be financed pursuant to this resolution is the share of the School District of the maximum cost of the aforesaid construction and equipping of facilities owned by BOCES, as more fully described in the preambles hereto (the “purpose”). No money has heretofore been authorized to be applied to the payment of the cost of the purpose. Section 2. The share of the School District of the maximum cost of the aforesaid purpose is $656,540 (which share of said costs constitutes the maximum estimated cost thereof to the School District, for purposes of Section 32.00 of the Local Finance Law), and the plan for the financing thereof is by the issuance of up to an aggregate of $656,540 of general obligation serial bonds (and, if desirable, notes (and renewals) in anticipation thereof) of said School District, hereby authorized to be issued pursuant to the Local Finance Law. Investment earnings on such obligations shall be applied to either the debt service on such obligations, or to the costs of the aforesaid purpose within the School District’s share amount as set forth above or as proportionately increased within the overall BOCES authorization. Such bonds and notes are to be payable from amounts which shall annually be levied on all the taxable real property in the School District, and the faith and credit of the School District, are hereby pledged for the payment of the bonds and notes and the interest thereon.
Section 3. It is hereby determined that the period of probable usefulness of the aforesaid purpose is thirty years, pursuant to subparagraph (b) of Section 1950(14) of the Education Law.
Section 4. Subject to the provisions of the Local Finance Law, the power to authorize the issuance of and to sell the bonds herein authorized and the bond anticipation notes in anticipation of the issuance and sale of such bonds, including renewals of such notes, is hereby delegated to the President of the Board of Education, the chief fiscal officer, or to the Vice President of the Board in the event of the absence or unavailability of the President. Such bonds and notes shall be of such terms, forms and contents, and shall be sold in such manner, as may be prescribed by said President or Vice President of the Board of Education, consistent with the provisions of the Local Finance Law.
Section 5. All other matters except as provided herein relating to the bonds and notes herein authorized including the date, denominations, maturities and interest payment dates, within the limitations prescribed herein, and the manner of execution of the same and also including the consolidation with other issues, the determination to issue Bonds with substantially level or declining annual debt service, all contracts for, and determinations with respect to, credit or liquidity enhancements, if any, shall be determined by the President of the Board of Education, or by the Vice President of the Board in the event of the absence or unavailability of the President. Such bonds and notes shall contain substantially the recital of validity clause provided for in Section 52.00 of the Local Finance Law, and shall otherwise be in such form and contain such recitals, in addition to those required by Section 51.00 of the Local Finance Law, as the President or Vice President of the Board of Education shall determine consistent with the provisions of the Local Finance Law.
Section 6. It is hereby determined and declared that the School District reasonably expects to reimburse the general fund (or such other fund as may be utilized), not to exceed the maximum amount authorized herein, from the proceeds of the obligations authorized hereby for expenditures, if any, from such fund that may be made for the purpose prior to the date of issuance of such obligations. This is a declaration of official intent under Treasury Regulation §1.150-2.
Section 7. The validity of such bonds and notes may be contested only if:1) Such obligations are authorized for an object or purpose for which said School District is not authorized to expend money, or
2) The provisions of law which should be complied with as of the date of publication of this resolution are not substantially complied with, and an action, suit or proceeding contesting such validity is commenced within twenty days after the date of such publication, or
3) Such obligations are authorized in violation of the provisions of the Constitution.
Section 8. This resolution, which takes effect immediately, shall be published in full in each official newspaper of the School District, together with a notice of the School District Clerk substantially in the form provided in Section 81.00 of the Local Finance Law.
The question of the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly put to a vote on roll call, which resulted as follows:

Lawn Mowing Bids 2015
The Hamlin Code Enforcement Officer will be accepting propos-als for grass mowing at various delinquent properties in the Town of Hamlin.
The Code Enforcement Officer will direct the vendor where and when the properties are to be mowed. The vendor shall submit two price quotes, one for the initial per 100 square feet of lawn area and a second price quote for follow up cuttings per 100 square feet. If there is a minimum charge per cutting it shall be included on the proposal. The proposal should be on business let-terhead indicating the name, address and contact number for the business. Vendors are required to have insurance and use their own equipment. Monthly bills should be submitted to the office.
Proposals shall be submitted to the Hamlin Building Department at 1658 Lake Road, Hamlin, NY 14464. All proposals must be re-ceived by 4:00 p.m. on March 6, 2015.
Brockport studentsmake fighting cancera fashionable cause
Fashion Passion: Catwalk for a Cure, the Third An-nual Brockport High School Fashion Show, will be held on Saturday, March 14 in the Brockport High School Au-ditorium. The event kicks off with a silent auction in the foyer at 2 p.m., and the fashion show beings at 3 p.m. The show, hosted by Seamus Flynn with music by The Flip-side, features prom wear for both guys and girls as well as informal spring fashions from Smarty Pants and BeBe Mills Boutique. The Brockport National Honor Society members are pledging this year’s proceeds from the show and auction to the American Cancer Society.
The Fashion Show began two years ago when high school junior, Taylor Mateo, was battling Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. The following year, Taylor, now in remission, served as the public relations coordinator for the event.
Tickets are $5 in advance, and $7 at the door. Pre-sale tickets are available at The Blushing Bride and BeBe Mills Boutique. Students may also purchase tickets at the cafeteria during lunch.

What to do if a data breach compromises your identity
Tens of millions of Americans could be victims of the lat-est corporate data breach at Anthem Insurance. Unknown hackers apparently stole personal identifying information (PII) from current and former Anthem customers, includ-ing names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth and other information that can be used for identity theft.
Better Business Bureau offers the following suggestions for consumers concerned that their PII has been stolen:•Do not take a “wait and see” approach as you may have done with breaches involving credit card data. You must act quickly. Breaches involving Social Security numbers have the potential to be far more detrimental to victims, and the damage can be difficult to repair.•Consider taking a preemptive strike by freezing your credit reports. This will not impact existing credit cards and financial accounts, but will create a roadblock for thieves seeking to create fraudulent accounts using your personal information.•At a minimum, if you know your Social Security number has been compromised, place a fraud alert on your credit reports. While less effective than a freeze, this will pro-vide an extra layer of protection.•Vigilance is key. Regularly check your credit reports at annualcreditreport.com for unauthorized charges or other signs of fraud. (Note: This is the only free credit report op-tion authorized by the Federal Trade Commission.)
