Haskins Community Church News November 2016 5 Reasons You Should Go on a Mission Trip We have two Mission trips being sponsored by HCC over the next few weeks and months, and I found myself reflecting on the many personal benefits I have found on being part of a short term mission trip. So, here are my Top 5 Reasons You Should Go on a Mission Trip: 1. You will encounter God is a way you never have before. Our God is big and he cares about all people of every race, creed, ethnicity; every demographic, and people in every geographical location. You will see people in a new way as God sees them. 2. You will become more grateful. I receive an attitude adjustment every time I go to another country or location in the U.S. I come back from my trips with a renewed appreciation for life's little blessingsair conditioning, running water, nice roads and flush toilets. There's nothing like spending time with people who have no home, or not enough food to feed their children to put your own problems in perspective. I have found that often it is the people who have the least, that have the most faith. 3. You will expand your limited perspective, and you will overcome fears. Too many of us are stuck in spiritual ruts. Every now and then you need to step out of your comfort zone and allow God to stretch you. Never pray aloud in public? Never share your faith story? A mission trip is the perfect place for these and other “Firsts.” 4. You will discover your spiritual family and will build lasting partnerships. When you minister alongside Christians in another ministry setting, in another geographical location, you find that the Holy Spirit bonds you together. These relationships can last a lifetime. 5. You will expand the kingdom of Jesus. The Great Commission was not a suggestion. Matthew 28:19 says, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations." Somebody has to GO. There's no way around it. To share the gospel with the whole world, we must be willing to pack our bags sometime and Go!

5 Reasons You Should Go on a Mission Trip

We have two Mission trips being sponsored by HCC over the

next few weeks and months, and I found myself reflecting on the many

personal benefits I have found on being part of a short term mission trip.

So, here are my Top 5 Reasons You Should Go on a Mission Trip:

1. You will encounter God is a way you never have before. Our God is

big and he cares about all people of every race, creed, ethnicity; every

demographic, and people in every geographical location. You will see

people in a new way – as God sees them.

2. You will become more grateful. I receive an attitude adjustment every

time I go to another country or location in the U.S. I come back from my

trips with a renewed appreciation for life's little blessings—air

conditioning, running water, nice roads and flush toilets. There's nothing

like spending time with people who have no home, or not enough food to

feed their children to put your own problems in perspective. I have found

that often it is the people who have the least, that have the most faith.

3. You will expand your limited perspective, and you will overcome

fears. Too many of us are stuck in spiritual ruts. Every now and then you

need to step out of your comfort zone and allow God to stretch you.

Never pray aloud in public? Never share your faith story? A mission trip

is the perfect place for these and other “Firsts.”

4. You will discover your spiritual family and will build lasting

partnerships. When you minister alongside Christians in another ministry

setting, in another geographical location, you find that the Holy Spirit

bonds you together. These relationships can last a lifetime.

5. You will expand the kingdom of Jesus. The Great Commission was

not a suggestion. Matthew 28:19 says, "Therefore go and make disciples

of all nations." Somebody has to GO. There's no way around it. To share

the gospel with the whole world, we must be

willing to pack our bags sometime and Go!

Worship: 26th Sunday after Pentecost Scriptures: Malachi 4:1-2a; Psalm 98; Luke 21:5-19

2 Thessalonians 3:6-13 Sermon: “Joy Begins Now” As we move toward the end of the church year, we are greeted by texts that hold forth the promise of a world healed of its brokenness and where the promise of God’s love and justice are made real for all people and creation. Our texts make the astonishing claim that this is not a distant future hope, but rather now is the time to rejoice and participate in this world God is creating.

Worship Schedule

Worship: Communion All Saint’s Sunday Scriptures: Daniel 7:1-3, 15-18; Psalm 149; Ephesians 1:11-23; Luke 6:20-31

Change in Usher Schedule for 2017

We are revising our usher schedule for this year. Each pair/family of ushers will sign up for a month at a time. This will replace the old schedules from the past. You can sign up with your family, or with a friend. Minimum of 2 people are needed and youth are encouraged to usher! You are signing up for the entire month, which includes extra services in Lent and Advent. If a conflict arises, please find your own replacement. Current ushers will be emailed so they can choose the month of their choice; or perhaps choose to not usher this year. If you have never ushered, please consider this important ministry! Sign up sheet will be posted in early November. Thank you for your service!

CardS of Thanks _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________

Thank you to Julie Thomas for organizing the Girl’s Night Out event in October as

we cut 4x4 bandages and sewed baby blankets for hospitals in the Congo. Thanks to

all the women who came and worked, and to those who donated sheets and fabric.

_____________________________________________________________

Our First Responder service, sponsored by HCC and St. Paul Lutheran Church, was

very well received in our community. Thank you to everyone who helped to show

radical hospitality to all our visitors.

______________________________________________________________

Thank you to Hayley Studer for once again organizing our latest Chicken/Rib BBQ

on Oct. 2nd. We made a profit of $ 919.00 to be used to help defray the costs for

some of our members to participate in the Back Bay Mission trip. Thank you to

everyone who worked, or purchased dinners!

______________________________________________________________

Thank you to everyone who donated items to fill our College Care Packages! We

sent 14 packages out to lucky and grateful college students!

_______________________________________________________________

Thank you to Mae & Dale Vollmar for their generous donations of two light fixtures

on the elevator side of the church and to Paul Krohn who helped to install.

________________________________________________________________

Thank you for your kindness, compassion and prayers.

Ed Rycheck

Thank you for the card and prayers during my recent surgery.

Pat Hill

Thanks to the generous donations of many people in loving

memory of Mike Lang, and thanks to the generosity of the

Lang family, we have been able to purchase a new audio

recorder which will be taping our worship services. We

will be able to make CD’s, or put the service on an MP3

player for shut-ins, or anyone who wants to listen to the

service. Money from Mike’s memorial was also used to

purchase a new projector screen and hardware, which will

be installed sometime in the next month or so.
