This term we have many important events happening. Already Years 3-6 have had their Cross Country Carnival. Thank you to all students and teachers for making the day such a success. The behaviour of all students was exemplary and it was so pleasing to see the participation rate of our students. Congratulations to all students and those who will now proceed to the next level. A structured Merit Award system of Bronze, Silver, Gold and Super Gold is in place to reward students for good behaviour. Our student’s behaviour and attitude was exemplary. I am always proud of our leaders for their part in it. This, along with the excellent organisation and outstanding support from Defence personnel resulted in a most dignified and respectful ceremony. The service was very capably run by our student leaders and Mrs Wray, Mrs Hoile, Mrs Lenton, Mrs Murdoch and Mrs Coleman. The respect shown by all students during the Service and the attendance by many parents is testament to our proud school.

WELCOME BACK Firstly, welcome back to our Principal Mr Ward. He is very happy to be back and looks forward to the new school term. It was wonderful to welcome our school community back on Tuesday morning and to see all the happy, enthusiastic students ready for yet another great term at Holsworthy Public School.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT Students at Holsworthy Public are recognised for their hard work and behaviour. A structured Merit Award system of Bronze, Silver, Gold and Super Gold is in place to reward students for good behaviour. Reports will be sent home this Term in week 9 and the parent teacher interviews will be held in week 10. Parents will shortly receive information in booking parent teacher interviews on

line. Kindergarten and stage 2 gymnastics is happening this term. We will continue to work with Liverpool Health to support our speech program in the school. This term they will be working in our kindergarten classrooms.

ANZAC DAY Our ANZAC Day ceremony was held at the end of last term as ANZAC Day fell during the school holidays. The respect shown by all students during the Service and the attendance by many

parents is testament to our proud school.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY On behalf of all the staff I would like to wish every mother, grandmother or family member who is a mum, the very happiest of Mother’s Days. Enjoy the special times together and our students make sure you really spoil your Mums. SUPER EXCITING NEWS! This term works will be starting in our back playground area. This project is designed to regenerate and reactivate this area into a fully utilised play space. It’s also been lovely seeing many of our students using ‘NATURE’S NOOK’. NAPLAN As you are aware, the school will be conducting the National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) commencing in week 3. Students from Year 3 and 5 will sit these tests each morning beginning Tuesday 14 May and concluding on Friday 17 May. Catch up sessions will be available during this test window. The school receives a lot of important diagnostic data which we as a team analyse to celebrate our successes and improve on any weaknesses. Although these tests are important for the school as well as students and parents, it is vital that we do not place any additional pressure on the students to perform well. P&C NEWS The school has a hard working group of parents who continue their support of our school and students by organising special events to raise money for the support of school programs. Congratulations to the following new executive of our school P&C. President: Kelly Kennedy Vice Presidents: Fiona Brown and Richenda Goodbun Secretary: Anand Galagali Treasurer: Renee deVilliers T Deiri

SCHOOL BANKING What happens at school banking?

Every Thursday 2 representatives from each class bring all the bank books down to the office in the class bag. There is a group of parent volunteers who then go through these bags to check and remove the children’s deposits and issue a silver token in it's place. Bank books are then returned to the class bag and placed in the teacher’s tub for them to collect and return the bank books to the students.

The information from the deposit slips is entered into the online Commonwealth Bank school banking portal and the deposits are sent to the bank where they match and allocate them to each student’s account . Each time a deposit is entered it’s recorded against each student’s unique ‘Student ID’.

If students need a new yellow wallet or deposit slip book we will send this home attached to their old one, so you don't need to go into a branch to get a new one.

What can we bank?

There is no minimum amount students can bank. You can include cash (Australian currency only) or cheques. If foreign currency is received it will not be banked and will be returned in the bank book. Please ensure cash is counted and noted on the deposit slip correctly and that the whole slip is competed, otherwise the amount will be returned to you and no deposit made that week.

Claiming rewards

Once students reach 10 deposits they can claim a reward. The system does not allow a student to be selected for a reward until they have reached this. Don’t worry if your child loses their tokens, as we can always check the system and let you know how many deposits they have made towards their next reward. Likewise, some students forget to return 10 tokens when claiming a reward, so they can end up thinking they have more deposits towards their next reward than they actually do.

Rewards are also ordered through the online system. It can take 2-3 weeks for these to arrive via post, so please let your children know this so they don't get upset that it didn’t get to them within a few days.

If you have any queries relating to student banking please come and see us in the office Thursday mornings from 8:55am-10am or leave a message with the school Administration Team and we will get in touch as soon as we can. You can also pop a note in with your child's deposit and we will respond upon receipt of this.

DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS A REMINDER TO ALL PARENTS AND VISITORS THAT YOU MUST COME TO THE OFFICE BEFORE PROCEEDING TO YOUR CHILD/CHILDRENS CLASSROOMS.

CAR PARKS CAR PARKS ARE FOR STAFF ONLY AND

NEW CANTEEN MANAGEMENT We are happy to announce that Healthy Canteens Australia will be managing our school canteen from the beginning of Term 2. The Healthy Canteens Australia menu complies with the NSW Government’s Healthy School Canteens Strategy offering a wide variety of fresh healthy foods for students to choose from.

The menu clearly identifies food and drink options as Everyday or Occasional. This encourages students to make informed decisions about the food they consume.

Healthy Canteens Australia uses Flexischools, an online ordering system, which allows canteen meals to be pre-ordered. Parents can pay with a range of payment options including Visa, Mastercard, Paypal or direct deposit, making the ordering process quick and simple, saving you time. Visit their website at Flexischools.com.au to set up an account.

Crunch and Sip (Munch & Crunch) deals will also be available from The Canteen.
