A good number of cattle for our last sale of the year saw a very strong trade.

from Messrs Throne of Umberleigh

sold to £1075 (x2), Montbeliarde 24

month to £1100 (x3). Younger

continental and native steers 16-19

months up £40-£50 on previous

weeks with plenty £800-£900 and

with an average of £500. Holsteins also sold well with a top call of £900 for 2 from Messrs Thorne, several

lean/hard Holsteins saw most over £550 and plenty over £600. A good trade for cows & calves topped for a

Pure Devon with young calf at foot at £810 for Messrs Hookway of Torrington.

January has historically been a very strong trade due to numbers being tight, the trade at the

end of December is showing likely to be a very strong start for store cattle and may be advisable

to get some cattle pre-movement tested over Christmas to take advantage of this.

The herd dispersal on behalf of Holland Farms, Milton Abbot saw their grazing type herd of cows comprising

a mix of British Friesian and Jersey Cross cows sell on a good trade. The Autumn calving portion was in strong

demand with the sale topping at £1470 on two occasions firstly for a freshly calved 3rd calver and again for a

October calved heifer. Older cows in both the Autumn and Spring calving lots sold well topping at £1176.
