FAZtor’s Notes By Fr. Arnold Zamora We celebrate the Second Sunday of Advent this weekend. We will have the Rite of Ac-ceptance for the two adult candidates for RCIA(Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) and three candidates for RCIC (Rites of Christian Initiation for Children) at the 9:30AM Sunday Mass. We

are happy to welcome them to our community of faith. Let us pray for them on their journey towards the full communion in the Catholic Church this coming Easter. This Sunday too is our Stewardship Pancake Breakfast as a thanksgiving for all the support you have given to our parish, especial-ly for sharing your time, talent and treasure which is the mark of the Stewardship way of life. The pancake breakfast that follows after the 7:30AM and 9:30AM masses, is organized by our Parish Pastoral Council, with our chef Dave Kelly. I would like to congratulate our parishioners and school parents who have completed the NERT (Neighborhood Emergency Response Team) training held at the Flanagan and our schoolyard. They re-ceived a diploma with a helmet, a vest and gloves after 6 Mondays of extensive training. We commend the efforts of parishioners Dick and Madeline Morten for organ-izing and bringing the NERT program to our parish. I would also like to thank those who have volunteered as “victims” in the rescue exercise drill. Some of them were our school children and adult parishioners. Last Monday before their graduation, I watched some participants trying to use the fire extinguisher. Reminds me of this story:

When the employees of a restaurant attended a fire safety semi-nar, they watched a fire official demonstrate the proper way to operate an extinguisher. "Pull the pin like a hand grenade," he explained, "then depress the trigger to release the foam." Later an employee was selected to extinguish a controlled fire in the parking lot. In her nervousness, she forgot to pull the pin. The instructor hinted, "Like a hand grenade, remember?"

In a burst of confidence she pulled the pin -- and hurled the extin-guisher at the blaze. “BOOM!”

The Filipino Ministry of the Archdiocese will be celebrating its 9th annual Simbang Gabi Commissioning mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral this coming Tuesday, December 6th, with Bishop Justice as the presid-er. “Simbang Gabi” literally means Evening Mass or “Mass at Night.” The Archdiocese’s Simbang Gabi Commissioning Mass heralds the beginning of Simbang Gabi Masses celebrated in various parishes in the Archdiocese of San Francisco. Lanterns from different parishes will be displayed and processed at the mass. All are invited! Yes, Christmas is coming but more importantly Christ is coming to us! Emmanuel, God is with us!

Rite of Christian Initiation Catechumens and candidates preparing for the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist will be welcomed to our parish faith community this Sunday, December 4th at the 9:30AM Mass This is called the Rite of Acceptance where the catechumens and candidates are signed with the cross on their fore-heads, ears, eyes, lips, breast, shoulders, hands, and feet as a sign of readiness to bear witness to Christ with their whole lives. A cross will be given each one of them by Fr. Arnold . This symbolizes their contin-uing Journey of Faith until they received the sacraments of Christian Initiation on Easter Vigil. Please pray for our brothers and sisters, for perseverance and generosity as they respond to Christ’s call to disci-pleship: Oliver Friedman, Aishad Friedman, Syd Cook-Jeffris, Diana Wilkinson, Leigh Anne. “Lord, we pray for all who journey to you. Strengthen their faith. Open their hearts to the fullness of your love. Deepen their understanding. Set their hearts afire for the king-dom. We ask this through Jesus, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life for all. Amen”.

Mass and Anointing of the Sick The Lay Canossians are organizing an afternoon of spirituality and socialization for the sick and home-bound in our parish. This quarterly event will be on Saturday, Decem-ber 10, at 1:30PM. Thank you Lay Canossians for your faithfulness to the charism of St. Magdalene of Canossa, in showing mercy and com-passion to the sick. Thank you to all parishioners who render their support and help in many varied ways. God bless you and your fami-lies.

Advent Giving Trees for Pomeroy Center Our heartfelt gratitude to Cecilia Bermudez, Cres Payumo, Pat Relampagos & Lina Hidalgo, for putting up and decorating the two trees at the back of the church. All the gift tags were taken. We thank our parishioners for your generous response. Please return your gift, with the name tag, no later than next weekend, December 9/10. You may also drop it at the parish office, attention Sr. Cristina. Pomeroy Center staff will pick up all the gifts on Wednesday, December 14th.

Advent Retreat will be on Saturday, December 17th, at 9:30AM to 12:30PM, with a break in between. Sr. Cristina will guide the reflection on the Advent themes of Hope, Joy, Peace, Love. The venue will either be the church or the Pastoral Center chapel, depending on the number of participants. No retreat fee, but please RSVP to the parish office, so we can determine the proper place for this day of Advent prayer.

Reflection: “Advent is always a beginning. It is actually a beginning and an ending. We are beginning a new life in Christ at the center, a life that is full with Christ. We are leading and ending an old life. This must be so. There must be this movement…We need to relinquish and empty ourselves, so that the newness Christ brings can enter and have a place to stay. We are Advent pilgrims on the way to the manger – to the great newness that the Child brings – must allow ourselves to pass through the desert where John is preaching.” -Paul H. Harkness “Our Journey to the Cradle” p. 4
