INSTRUCTIONSPreheat oven to 170°C. Grease a 26 x 7cm loaf tin. Place the butter, treacle, golden syrup and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring to dissolve butter. Set aside to cool.Sift the fl our and spices into a large mixing bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk. Fold cooled syrup into spiced fl our, then add the egg mixture. Stir until combined, then spoon into loaf pan and bake for 30 minutes (a

skewer inserted into the centre should come out clean).

TREACLE BUTTER250g unsalted butter, softened40ml (2 tbs) treacle

To make the treacle butter, place butter, treacle in a food processor and process to combine. Serve with the warm gingerbread, drizzled with treacle.

INSTRUCTIONSPlace coffee in a plunger. Pour over boiling water. Stir and stand for 3 minutes. Plunge coffee and transfer to a heatproof jug. Add sugar and stir until dissolved. Refrigerate until ready to

serve. Then place chilled coffee and 8 scoops ice-cream in a milkshake mixer. Blend until smooth and frothy. Spoon 1 small scoop remaining ice-cream into each serving glass. Pour over blended espresso. Top with cream. Serve.

INSTRUCTIONSCombine eggs, milk, cream, brandy, vanilla, sugar and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg in a blender. Blend until frothy.Pour mixture into a large bowl. Sift fl our over mixture. Whisk to

combine. Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Brush with melted butter. Pour 2 tablespoons batter into pan. Cook for 2 minutes or until bubbles appear on surface. Turn and cook for 1 to 2 minutes or until golden and cooked through.

Transfer to a plate. Cover to keep warm. Repeat with remaining butter and mixture. Place 3 pancakes on each plate. Top with double cream. Drizzle with maple syrup. Sprinkle with remaining nutmeg. Serve.

INGREDIENTS1/2 cup honey or syrup (use 1/4 cup of each)1/2 cup brown sugar1/2 cup peanut butter2 cups quick oats2 cup Rice Krispy cereal1/4 cup. ground fl ax seed1 cup total of your favourite mix-ins like chocolate chips, or mix and match dried fruit, nuts, seeds, etc.

INSTRUCTIONSIn a small saucepan, mix honey (or syrup) and brown sugar.Cook over medium-high heat until sugar is completely dissolved – stirring constantly. Remove from heat and quickly stir in peanut butter.Mix the oats, cereal, fl ax seed, and optional wheat germ in a large bowl. Pour honey mixture over dry ingredients — mix well.

Stir in chocolate chips, nuts, fruit, and any other “mix-ins”.Press mixture into a fl at pan that has been greased or lined with wax paper. It works best when you put another piece of wax paper on top of the bars and press down with a measuring cup. Let cool and “fi rm up” — kind of like Rice Krispy Bars.Cut into bars and store in an airtight container.

Thread countThread count is the number of threads (both horizontally and vertically) per square inch of fabric. So where does the idea that higher thread count means higher quality come from? Well, the more fine threads you can weave together, the softer and finer the fabric must be. Right? Not always. Single-ply fabrics use threads on their own, while double-ply use threads made up of two threads twisted together. This is where those claims of 800 and 1200 thread counts come from – they use creative maths, possibly referring to 400 double-ply threads or 800 single-ply threads. In the end, if you want a heavier, longer lasting sheet go for double-ply – for a more breathable or delicate sheet, go for single-ply.
