DO NOT BE AFRAID Did you notice? Today is called the "Second Sunday of Easter," not the "First Sun-day after Easter." Our celebration of Easter is not over. These Sundays of Easter continue to present the mystery of Jesus Christ's victory. The readings begin with the "signs and wonders" abounding in those earliest days. Sick people lay in the street, hoping that at least Peter's "shadow might fall on one or another of them." Then, in a powerful passage from the book of Revelation, the visionary falls down "as though dead" upon seeing the victorious Christ. But Christ extends a gentle touch: "Do not be afraid . . . once I was dead, but now I am alive forever." In the Gospel, that same Christ appears and breathes on the disciples, and gently leads Thomas to believe. This Christ--more powerful than any evil force, victori-ous over death itself--touches us and whispers, "Do not be afraid." Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION An ancient title for this Sunday is Dominica in Albis, or "Sunday in White." During the Easter Vigil, the newly baptized are invested with a white garment, a sign that they have put on Christ. At one time, the garments were worn for a full week of celebration and reflection, and on this Sunday the newly bap-tized would appear in their robes again in their new place among the faithful for Eucharist. In later centuries, the energy of new life at Easter was largely forgotten, and this Sunday was renamed "Quasimodo Sunday,"

or "Low Sunday." In recent years, with the recovery of the in-sight that Easter is the privileged time for celebrating and re-newing baptism, there is nothing "Low" about this Sunday. At a week's distance, the beauty and grace of our Easter celebration is sustained by joyful alleluias, the blessing and sprinkling of holy water, and the comfort of the Lord's presence to us. The Chaplet of The Divine Mercy

How to Recite the Chaplet

The Chaplet of Mercy is recited using ordinary rosary beads of five decades. The Chaplet is preceded by two opening prayers from the Diary of Saint Faustina and followed by a closing prayer.

1. Make the Sign of the Cross:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

2. Optional Opening Prayers

You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls, and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathoma-ble Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us.

(Repeat three times) O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You!

3. Our Father

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, Amen.

4. Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

5. The Apostle's Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

6. The Eternal Father

Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

7. On the Ten Small Beads of Each Decade

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

8. Repeat for the remaining decades

Saying the "Eternal Father" (6) on the "Our Father" bead and then 10 "For the sake of His sorrowful Passion" (7) on the following "Hail Mary" beads.

9. Conclude with Holy God (Repeat three times)

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

10. Optional Closing Prayer

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compas-sion — inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become de-spondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.

Segundo Domingo de Pascua (Domingo de la Divina Misericordia)

7 de abril de 2013 Estuve muerto y ahora, como ves,

estoy vivo por los siglos de los siglos. — Apocalipsis 1:18a

Domingo 7 de Abril. Segundo Domingo de Pascua. Reflexionando la Palabra de Dios. El recordado Papa Juan Pablo II llegó a afirmar lo siguiente: “la mayor prisión en la que viven muchos hombres, es que están con el corazón cerrado”. ¿Cómo están las puertas de nuestro corazón?, ¿abiertas o reacias a la fe?, ¿dispuestas abrirse a Cristo Resucitado o rechinando porque, hace tiempo, dejaron de ser bañadas por la oración, la esperanza, la fe o la caridad? Estamos en Pascua. ¡Resucitó el Señor y nos llama a la vida! ¡Señor qué vea! ¡Señor, que viva! ¡Señor, que crea en ti! Han de ser exclamaciones que broten desde lo más hondo de nuestros deseos de celebrar, sentir y vivir a Jesús resucitado. Dios nuestro Padre nos ha bendecido dándonos un nuevo Papa, Francisco, quien con su testimonio de amor y solidaridad por los más necesitados nos muestra y enseña el lado más hermoso de la Iglesia. En estos últimos días, católicos y no católicos nos hemos sentido animados en la fe por el testimonio de nuestro papa Francisco. No podemos consentir que diferentes problemas que sacuden a nuestra Iglesia Universal, nos arrinconen. Hoy, más que nunca, como los apóstoles tenemos que decir: “hemos visto al Señor”. Y, aunque algunos, con intereses mezquinos y destructivos, intenten callar o desautorizar la voz de la Iglesia, hemos de responder con la fuerza de nuestra fe, con el entusiasmo activo y efectivo de nuestro testimonio cristiano. No podemos dejarnos llevar, como decía el Papa emérito Benedicto XVI, por murmuraciones que entre otras cosas debilitan, pero no consiguen su propósito de herir y quebrantar lo que, por cierto, es algo inquebrantable y sólido. Cristo Jesús a nosotros y a su Iglesia nos acompaña en nuestra pasión y muerte para llevarnos a un mañana feliz. Como a Santo Tomás, nos puede ocurrir lo mismo: que nos cueste ver al Señor en el contexto y realidad que estamos viviendo, ver la realidad sufriente, que es el costado por donde sangra la Iglesia, donde hemos de incrustar nuestros dedos para comprobar que, ver que Cristo, sigue vivo dentro de ella. Ver que la razón de su ser de la Iglesia, es precisamente anunciar, con santidad pero a veces con alguna debilidad, la gran noticia del evangelio: ¡Ha resucitado Cristo el Señor! ¡Vive entre nosotros! También como Tomás, hagamos un acto de fe: “Señor mío y Dios mío”. Creo en tu Iglesia, amo y oro por la santidad y entrega de todo el pueblo de Dios y, sobre todo, sigo creyendo porque se, que el paso del Señor por el mundo, no ha sido inútil. Tuvo un objetivo: sacarnos del pecado, curarnos las enfermedades del alma y atraernos a los abrazos amorosos de Dios Padre. Y, eso, nadie nos lo puede ensombrecer o eliminar. ¡Mantengamos nuestras puertas abiertas! P. Jairo

Para reflexionar en el Domingo de la Divina Misericordia

Misericordia con el prójimo: “Si un alma no practica la misericordia de alguna manera, tampoco la alcanzará en el día del juicio. Oh, si las almas supieran acumular los tesoros eternos, no serían juzgadas, porque la misericordia anticiparía mi juicio”. (Diario #1317, p. 472)

Recordemos que las obras de misericordia son las siguientes:

Espirituales: enseñar al que no sabe, dar buen consejo al que lo necesita, consolar al triste, corregir al que se equivoca, perdonar las injurias, sufrir pacientemente los defectos ajenos, orar a Dios por vivos y difuntos.

Corporales: dar de comer al hambriento, dar de beber al sediento, vestir al desnudo, dar posada al peregrino, visitar a los enfermos, redimir al cautivo, enterrar a los muertos. “Hija Mía, necesito sacrificios hechos por amor, porque sólo éstos tienen valor para Mí. Es grande la deuda del mundo contraída Conmigo, la pueden pagar las almas puras con sus sacrificios, practicando la misericordia espiritualmente” La Misericordia Divina es infinita, pero la podemos limitar con nuestra falta de confianza en Dios o nuestra falta de misericordia con el prójimo. ¡Qué menos que un acto de misericordia hacia el prójimo cada día! Sea de obra, palabra o con la oración. (Palabras de Jesús a Santa Faustina Kowalska) ¡JESUS EN TI CONFIO!

Tiempo de Pascua: llamado a la evangelización

Por la fe, los discípulos formaron la primera comunidad reunida en torno a la enseñanza de los apóstoles, la oración y la celebración de la Eucaristía, poniendo en común todos sus bienes para atender las necesidades de los hermanos (ver Benedicto XVI, La puerta de la fe, 13).

Todo el mes, en todas las Misas, leeremos los Hechos de los Apóstoles de Lucas, describiendo el camino de la joven Iglesia guiada por el Espíritu, a veces un camino de la paz, a veces un camino lleno de la persecución por sus enemigos y el tumulto de adentro. Pero esta joven Iglesia siempre mueve hacia adelante, de la familiaridad de Jerusalén a la extrañeza de todo lugar entre allí y Roma; y hacia fuera, de la uniformidad cómoda heredada del judaísmo a la diversidad desafiante del mundo de los gentiles. Una semana después de la Pascua, el Domingo de la Divina Misericordia nos invita a renovar nuestra relación personal con Jesús, uno de los elementos principales de este Año de la Fe. El Tercer Domingo de Pascua, no se rasga la red de Pedro, a pesar de los 153 peces que contiene (¡uno de cada clase!), imagen de la “unidad en diversidad” de la Iglesia protegida por la comunión con Pedro. El Domingo del Buen Pastor, la Iglesia ora por vocaciones al sacerdocio y la vida religiosa. Todo el tiempo, en los Hechos de los Apóstoles vemos a los que son atraídos a la Iglesia primitiva porque habían visto a Jesús Resucitado, no en persona sino en personas, en los discípulos que todavía forman el Cuerpo vivo de Cristo, la Iglesia.

Misión Ser el tipo de discípulo, personalmente y en comunión con mis hermanos y hermanas, en quien los que buscan a Jesús puedan ver por lo menos un vistazo de su presencia. —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
