Rodeo parade entries soughtIRON RIVER—The 45th annual U.P. Cham-pionship Rodeo is ready to ride into town and that means getting ready for the Wild West Parade set for Saturday, Aug. 3, in the downtown Iron River area, beginning at 10 a.m. Parade registration starts at 8:30 a.m. at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Franklin Street, host-ed by Global Response North. Although city streets are seeing a lot of con-struction work, the pa-rade route will remain the same as in past years, said a spokesperson. “The parade usually lasts around an hour and the route follows Fourth south to U.S. 2 East, south on First Street, west on Genesee Street then north on Seventh Street to the Fairgrounds,” said the spokesperson. The Wild West Parade Committee is looking for entries in the fol-lowing categories: Best Western Theme, Best Horse Drawn Unit, Best Commercial Unit, Best Individual Rider, Best Organizational Unit and Best Youth Entry-non
horse. “Whether you own a business, belong to an organization, a church group, a class reunion group or an individual,” come join the festivities and enter a fl oat.” Candidates for elected offi ce who plan to par-ticipate in the parade are reminded they cannot walk the parade route, but must either ride in truck or car or be on horseback. Northern Septic is again sponsoring the ro-deo’s Wild West Parade pooper scoopers and area youngsters, ages 5 to 15, are needed. To be eligible for pay-ment, pooper scoopers (parents are welcome to walk with their children) must register at the pa-rade registration table between 8:30 and 9:45 a.m. They will be provided with a Northern Septic T-shirt, which is to be worn during the parade. “So bring a shovel and a container, and join in the parade festivities.” Anyone with questions concerning the parade can contact Allyce West-phal at (906) 367-8569.
