LIBRARY NEWS

AARON BLABEY IS COMING !

We are preparing for a visit by the truly brilliant children’s author, Aaron Blabey. He will be here on 11th August, a week before the Book Fair. We have all his books in the Library and the children are familiar with most of his characters including “Pig the Pug”, “Thelma the Unicorn” and “The Bad Guys”. He is a great presenter, who believes that writing and illustrating children’s books is the best job in the world. It will be an absolute treat to see him in our Library. Thank you to everyone for the wonderful support of the Library Book Sale last week. It was an amazing success, with all books in new owners’ hands before the end of lunch on Wednesday. The Library is now clear of all the storage cartons and ready for a “Spring “ cleaning … though recent weather says we may be a bit early for that just yet.

What a great Crazy Hat day we had last Wednesday, celebrating National Simultaneous Storytime in the Library with the children from Preschool and the Infants. Thank you Miss Turner for the fabulous idea! All around Australia, there were over 500,000 children participating in more than 3,000 locations.

Happy reading everyone!

Chess News

keen to play Chess can come to the Library on any/all of those days to practice their skills and have match

Canteen Volunteers Needed

Providing nutritious food in our canteen is a vital step in helping kids set up healthy routines and habits for life. Our canteen is run with the help of a network of volunteers from our school community working together. If you can spare any time to join our network and help prepare and serve food at our canteen, we would very much appreciate a hand. Its easy and fun work with On-the-job training and you can dedicate as much or as little time as you like. Our time is from 8:15am-12.30pm if you are available. All volunteers’ efforts are re-warded with a healthy lunch and as much tea and coffee you can drink. Just fill in the volunteers slip below and email or send it back to school. If you have any queries please feel free to contact me via phone, email or drop in to the canteen for a chat. Many thanks, Phyllipa Elvidge Canteen Supervisor 49872403 [email protected] ______________________________________________________________________________________________

ROSLYN ST. CAR PARK AWARENESS

Just a reminder that the Roslyn St car park is a designated quick drop off and pick up zone for children arriving via

Special Transport vehicles. To maintain safety for our students, this area is restricted to vehicles with school parking permits. This

year’s permits are PINK and can be obtained via an application process. If you believe that you require a permit, please speak to

the office staff.

Please be aware that the gates to this car park will be closed and locked after the last Special Transport vehicle has depart-

ed. If you have a permit, it is requested that you park outside the school on days where you will be requiring an extended amount

of time in the afternoon, such as for parent/teacher meetings.

The pedestrian gates will be locked by 3:10pm. Pedestrians needing to leave the school after the gates have been locked will be able to do so via the Cambridge St and Geer St entrances.

We thank you for your patience and consideration in this matter.

Spotlight on a volunteer This week we shine the light on a volunteer

that has helped out in the Library.

Sylvia Davey

Sylvia said she started volunteering at IPS because her son had trou-

ble settling in at School last year. “After a lot of work from a lot of

great people we’ve finally got him mostly settled. I work at the Li-brary to be there for him and it also gives me a chance to give back to

those that have helped me”.

When volunteering in the Library, Sylvia said the jobs are easy to do and include placing returned books back on the shelves, helping chil-

dren with their work and covering books, as well as improving my

computer skills.

Thanks Sylvia we appreciate all your hard work!
