Dear Church Friends, Montford and I are so thankful for your kindness shown us during my ill-ness. Your visits, calls, cards, care gift, and meals were appreciated more

than we can say. God bless you all.

Montford and Bernice Corley

Thank you so much for the cards and condolences you sent me during

my illness. Your thoughts will always be remembered. Harriet Howell

There are no words to adequately express my thanks and deep

appreciation for all our CHUMC family has meant to me during these past weeks. The cards, calls, visits, and prayers meant so much to Cecil and me. I especially want to thank all those who helped prepare and serve the lovely reception following Cecil's Memorial Service on Saturday, April 28. It was a very fitting end to the meaningful service in the sanctuary, and everyone there enjoyed the delicious food that you so lovingly

prepared.

We have always said CHUMC is the most caring church we have ever been a part of, and you certainly fulfilled that feeling with your love and

acts of kindness to me and my family following Cecil's death.

May God bless and keep you all in His care.

Mary McFarland

A special thank you to all of those who helped make this years birthday extra wonderful!

Thank you so much for the thoughtful cards and warm wishes. Blessings,

Julie Crawford

Seniors Connection

Following the Seniors lunch on May 10, we cruised with Tom Morris via

his power point presentation from Vancouver, British Columbia through

Alaska, Vladivostok, Russia; Sapporo , Japan; Busan, South Korea and

Beijing China. It was an interesting and fun trip. Many thanks to Ralph

Lett for his technical assistance.

Our next meeting will be Thursday, June 14 (Flag Day) beginning with

a covered dish lunch at noon. We are so fortunate to have Bill Young

present his impersonation of Patrick Henry, “The Voice of Liberty”. Bill

portrays Henry in the last year of his life as he reflects on his child-

hood, two marriages, religious convictions, Love of children, various

careers and his contribution to the formation of the United States.

Come, bring a friend a neighbor or a grandchild to this interesting and educational program!

The Circuit Rider has started including it’s “Spotlight” article. We will be placing a “spotlight” on individuals around the church, and on ministries that we feel should

be recognized within the community.

In order to run this article, we will need your help every month. Let us know if there is a person or ministry that you would like to highlight for the next month.

Please contact the church office, if you would like to recognize a ministry or someone, with a small paragraph explaining about the individual/ministry and why they

have impacted your life. If possible, include a picture with your paragraph.

Day Camp at the Martin’s Farm 2012

Dear Campers and Parents, The following information should be helpful to you in planning for Day Camp.

Dates: Monday, June 25; Wednesday, June 27; Friday, June 29

Time: Those leaving from Chamberlayne Heights should arrive by 8:30 am on the first morning and 8:45 am each succeeding morning. Private vehicles will leave Chamberlayne Heights at 9:00 am. We will be returning to Chamberlayne Heights at 3:00 pm. No one is to arrive at the farm prior to 9:30 a.m.

Transportation : Private vehicles will be used to get to the farm. If you are providing your own transportation to the farm and do not wish to meet at one of the churches, then you should plan to arrive at the farm no earlier than 9:30 a.m. and plan to leave no later than 2:30 p.m. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE OR PICK UP A CHILD WITHOUT LETT ING AN ADULT IN CHARGE OF REGISTRATION KNOW THAT YOUR CHILD IS ARRIVING OR LEAVING. We are going to be keeping a strict head count.

Place: The Martin’s family farm is in Hanover County.

Directions to the farm: Go north on Rt. 301 until you pass Hanover Courthouse. Turn right on Rt. 614 (Norman’s Bridge Rd.) and go 3 miles to Rt. 728 which is only on your left. Turn down Rt. 728. The farm is at the very end of the gravel road. The phone number there is 537-5784.

Health and Safety: At least one registered nurse will be on duty at all times. A lifeguard will be on duty when swimming is permitted.

Camp Clothes: Wear sturdy, hot weather clothes. Shoes that cover the toes are recommended. Tennis shoes are great! Campers allergic to poison ivy and/or poison oak might want to cover up more. The children will be in the sun all day, so sunscreen is recommended. It is best to apply it before you bring them in the morning. Bug spray is also suggested.

Swimming: We hope to be able to swim, but this must be governed by the status of the river. Our “swimming” is actually wading in a roped off area in the river. Any decisions, if necessary, regarding height limits for the children will be made daily at Day Camp, based on the depth of the river. We may have some water games available for children who are too short to get in the water. We will have a lifeguard on duty and other staff members watching the swimming area. We must have parent’s signed permission in order to allow children to swim. If enough supervision is available we may take the experienced swimmers into deeper water. Please be sure to indicate your child’s swim-ming ability on the permission form. There are changing rooms available for boys and girls. Campers who swim may want to bring their suits, instead of wearing them, as we will not be swimming until the afternoon. Plastic bags are a good idea for wet suits and towels.

Things to bring:

Medical Release Form: Enclosed. Campers will need this completed in full and signed in order to participate.

Swimming Permission Form: Included on release form, but must clearly indicate whether wading and/or swimming is allowed.

Swimsuit and Towel: Labeled and in a plastic bag.

Lunch: Please label clearly with camper’s name. Brown paper bags will be fine. There will be coolers available, but foods that spoil easily are not recommended. Kool-Aid will be provided. Please bring your own beverage if you cannot drink it. There is plenty of cold well water.

Sunscreen and Bug spray: Be sure to put your child’s name on them.

On Friday, June 30, family members and friends are invited to join us at 12:00 for lunch. You will get to see what the children have been doing all week. If you have any questions, please call the Chamberlayne Heights office at 266-3551. You may also contact Liz Lowry at 262-6427.

Sincerely,

Liz Lowry

CAN YOU HELP US HELP HHH?

As a follow-up project to our exciting March pro-gram presented by Babs Jackson, President/CEO of HHH, Hospital Hospitality House, the Seniors decided to collect items needed for the house and to visit the facility. Items needed include non-perishable food supplies, trial size cosmetic items and housekeeping supplies. Our goal is to collect the items during the months of May and June and deliver them to HHH in July when we tour the facility. The Seniors will have flyers available soon which will indicate the items needed and there will be a collection box in the Narthex beginning in May. Look for additional information in upcoming church bulletins and plan to join us when we take our donations to the center. The mission of HHH is to provide lodging in a safe, car-ing environment where patients and their families can find respite and support during a medical crisis. Since their begin-ning, the facility has hosted people from all of the states plus 31 foreign countries. More information about HHH can be found on their web site www.hhhrichmond.org.

Please plan to support this Seniors’ project to HELP HHH!

The chaplains con-duct worship services, teach, counsel, and coordinate the many volunteers who assist in ministering to the male, female and youthful offenders incarcerated in the state prison system. The chaplains are supported by denominations, churches, foundations, and individuals, as well as by some of the profits from the Department of Corrections’ Commissary Fund. Chaplain Service is a registered charity with the Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (CVC). The CVC Code for Chaplain Service is 3002. This pre-sents a unique opportunity for state employees from all of the various state agencies to support prison minis-try and to help change lives and ensure safer communities. Chaplains are essential to the Commonwealth of Virginia in that they ensure equal access to religious programming and services as required by the First Amendment and the federal RLUIPA (Religious Land Usage and Institutionalized Persons Act) law.

I know we all have different memories of our previous bazaars - tired feet, exhaustion, back pain, fun, laugh-ter, good food, shopping sprees wonderful fellowship, etc. Plans are back on the drawing board for our third bazaar. Our previous bazaars, after expenses, brought in around $10,000! This could provide a “real boost” to our church finances. BAZAAR EXTRAORDINAIRE III is being planned for FRIDAY and SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19TH and 20TH. Please mark your calendars. Joan Williams and Helen Wood will be actively seeking vendors for our bazaar. Please let them know if you would like to be a vendor. If you know any crafters, be sure to let them know about our bazaar. We will keep you updated as future plans are finalized. Carolyn Pendleton and Phin Wood are serving as chairpersons for our bazaar. Let them know if you would like to help!
