Service Club; Take That tribute at Enderby and District Social on the 5th October, for which tickets are now available from the club, this will be a sell out as it was earlier this year so get your tickets sooner rather than later!! This is just some of the excellent entertainment our clubs are putting on. One night of good entertainment recently was that of The Cheeze at the Manor Public House, these guys are just the biz, they have years of experience and talent!! Danny on lead guitar, Norris on bass guitar and Gordy on drums. A great gig. I loved their version of Bohemian Rhapsody where they stop - start and play out of key, it’s very clever how they do it. There were also some fellow entertainers in EDITORIALthe audience ie. Jeff and Suzanne (Hot First and foremost to stop all the text Stuff), Ken and Rob (RK Karaoke) and messages, I’m sure when I told you all Daryl (one of The James Brothers) I think it about 'The Munix’, people were....aware
that back on Opportunity Knocks they were shows the class of an act when entertainers called Martin Harvey and the Munix go to see other acts!! although now Paul and Neil Ewing have Ent. Secs. in attendance at the last meeting reformed The Munix minus Martin Harvey. included Thurmaston PWMC, Braunstone Paul and Neil along with John and Rob Vic, South Wigston WMC, Sileby, Latimer, have already done a few gigs, one of which Newfoundpool, The Elms Social and Ex-Steve mentions in one of his write-ups. THE ELMS SOCIAL AND EX-SERVICE CLUB(FORMERLY WIGSTON RBL)
Yes you have seen right, the club now has a new name as we now have nothing at all to do with the Royal British Legion. The Legion membership is still valid until the end of this month, then it is open for everyone to be made very welcome to join the club in it’s exclusive right you can join in October at a £1 a month until the end of the year and then the years subscription will start in January 2014. All of the club events and facilities will remain as they are with things for all ages and any changes will be for the better. There will still be a varied selection of top class entertainment with the regular Saturday nights along with the Rock ‘n’ Roll nights and the speciality shows on Friday nights. A new era for the club which hopefully will give us a great and exciting future because you deserve it. The entertainment at the club to end June was the first appearance here for the live local five piece band The Rhythm Riders. They debuted their new lead singer on this night and he fits in perfectly as if he’d been in the band for a long time. Soul/Motown, rock and pop songs were sung and played really well going down well in the process. The unbelievably hot month of July began with the welcome return to the club for local trio The Cheeze. Three of best musicians in Leicester in their own right gel together perfectly playing a great mixture of songs by the likes of Elvis Costello, Rolling Stones, Badfinger, The Knack, Neil Diamond and Wild Cherry. A top class trio who will be always welcome back. Next up was the long awaited return to the club for local male/female duo Hot Stuff. They have reformed this year after a few years break and it’s great to see Jeff and Suzanne back on stage where they belong. Rarely heard songs such as Video Killed The Radio Star, Echo Beach, Ever Fallen In Love and Teenage Kicks were well received and I’m looking forward to their next appearance on Friday October 11th on the Macmillan Cancer Charity Show, full details for that next month. Following them was the return for popular top Lincoln trio Little Big Band. Again superb musicians playing some great songs by the likes of Queen, Alice Cooper, Kings Of Leon, Take That and my favourite Toccata by Sky. A fantastic night from one of the best in the business. There are some top class shows this month to enjoy, the highlight being on Saturday 21st a special cabaret show with hilarious ventriloquist Steve Hewlett who reached the final of this years Britains Got Talent (Arthur Lager, Simon Cowell, Sinitta) along with one of Leicesters best vocalists Neil Warner. It’s unbelievably free admission and I advise you to get here early as it’s sure to be a full house, don’t miss out. In July we had two great nights out, on Friday 5th we had the pleasure of attending Karen West and Pauls Silver Wedding Anniversary at Birstall RBL. A great night with a superb live band called The Net and an exclusive first live appearance from the reformed Munix. When you see The Munix you are in for a real treat with a few of the old favourites interjected with some new material that fits in perfectly with outstanding playing alongside the trademark harmonies. It was a tremendous party with a few familiar faces I hadn’t seen for a while and it was great to see Hayley, Karen and Brian again. The wedding photo album was on show with a few red faces around, a lovely buffet and a re-visit to the best smoking area in Leicester. Hope you’re sober now Karen! On Thursday 11th we went to The Saffron Lane WMC for the second Charity night, in memory of the top man Les Burrows. Once again it was superbly organised by Mick Welsh with a first class show, compere Steve Sinatra, Pure Logic, Soul Providers, Double XL, Velvet Souls and Rachel Paul, sound man Dale Roberts did a terrific job working hard all night providing the crystal clear sound throughout for everyone. A big raffle which Garvin Jayes went round with the tickets selling plenty. I’m not sure how much was raised but it will be added to what’s already been raised and there could be a third show early next year, watch this space, so it is ongoing. A great show, very enjoyable, Les would have loved it. Blackpool report next month. See ya then..... Steve Rushin (Ent Sec)

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing away of Paul Cockayne, Bingo Secretary of the Braunstone & Dristrict Working Mens Club on Tuesday 16th July 2013, aged 55. All our thoughts and deepest sympathy go out to Paul’s family, especially Paul’s wife Gail, Paul’s father Frank and Paul’s sister Linda.

CHARITY SHOW REPORT ‘IN MEMORY OF LES BURROWS’
This was held at the Saffron Lane WMC of which we thank the club for allowing us their venue. This was the second night we had held in aid of Mesothelioma, and although not many attended a total of £400 was raised for this cancer charity. All of the acts were superb, Double XL, Pure Logic, Rachael Paul, Soul Providers, compered by Steve Sinatra and all the sound provided by Dale Roberts doing a fantastic job all night long. The acts sang for four and a half hours, giving a wide variety of songs and music. We even had the pleasure of Liz Darlison, consultant nurse from Macmillan Mesothelioma, and also Jill Lemon fund raiser for the charity in attendance. Hi all, since taking over as Ent. Sec. at The West End W.M.C. I have put on a top tribute show every month: as Ent. Secs. know they don't come cheap and that is why I put a small charge on the door. To be honest, I get sick of hearing the same question "WHY CHARGE?". The answer to this is that I try and put a top tribute show on EVERY month and not just now and again!! Also clubs are not getting the amount of people in that they had a few years ago. If every member used the club on a regular basis instead of coming in once a year to pay up their subs, or once in a blue moon, then we would be able to get things back to how they used to be. Also, every artist wants work but there's a few things I just don't understand - WHY are some artist fees more expensive for a Saturday night than a Friday night when they are doing the same amount of performance time? WHY are some artist fees considerably more than others? I understand that travel expenses etc. come into fees but like Dave Rollason said a while ago, if artist kept their fees reasonable then more work would come your way. Let's all pull together and get the clubs back to how they used to be!!!!!!! Lee Burchell
LETTER FROM LISA
Wow, looks like we finally got our summer back even if only for a few weeks!!!Went to see Mick Knight again, he mentioned he wanted to do some new songs, so after a few suggestions from myself, his repertoire now includes, Herman Hermits' Silhouettes and Barry White's My First, My Last, My Everything amongst a few others. Mick as usual always puts 150% into his performance and goes down well everywhere he performs.Next I went to see Little Big Band, a trio from Sleaford, Another fantastic show and I was disappointed I could only stay for an hour. With music from Queen to Kings of Leon, and guitarist Neil performs a fabulous version of Toccata by a band called Sky. Little Big Band perform mainly classic rock songs with a bit of Take That and Phil Collins too. These guys are a must see. In August I am going to Manchester to see a Beatles 50th Anniversary concert featuring The Tremeloes and Herman's Hermits along with other bands from the era and some tribute bands too, so I will try and do a short write up about that next month.Hope the sunny, warm weather continues and everyone has enjoys it.
