Safe
& simple
Colour navigation from the pack through to
the individual components: the colour
coding system uses blue to denote 5-core,
purple for 7-core and green for 11-core
wiring. This easily recognizable system is
used consistently throughout all compo-
nents of the continuous lighting system.
Safety: The continuous lighting system is
earthed automatically by forced contacting
at the electrical components. The ends of
the through wiring profiles are closedusing patented protective caps.
Structure of the continuous lighting sys-
tem: Simple assignment of trunking and
connectors using the conductor colour
coding system. The gear trays are additio-
nally protected against inadvertent polarity
reversal during assembly by a mechanical
coding system.
Flexible
Reliable gear tray contacting is possible at
any position of the trunking along the con-
tinuous through wiring profile, permitting
the structure of the continuous lighting
system to be varied at will.
Alongside standard gear trays for T26 and
T16 lamps, new modules are now availa-
ble for flexible continuous lighting soluti-
ons. The range includes emergency
lighting modules with E27 lampholders aswell as LED illuminated signs, sockets,
trunking and facility for direct fixture of
spotlights.
All accessories for continuous lighting sys-
tem fixing can be clipped onto the trunking
without the aid of tools and variably dis-
placed in the lengthways direction.
The wide-ranging selection of optical con-
trols, including reflectors, louvres and pa-
nels, has the right solution to offer for
every lighting situation.
Energy efficient
The drive to reduce energy consumption, cut
damaging CO2 emissions and so reduce en-vironmental pollution is something which
concerns us all worldwide.
In lighting systems, this effect can only be
brought about by reducing energy consump-
tion, not by implementing lower connected
loads.
But at the same time, a lighting system has
to create an environment in which people
can work efficiently and feel comfortable.
In Germany, lighting accounts for around
12% of the total electrical energy expended.
The majority of installed lighting systems aremore than 15 years old, and lag considerably
behind the latest developments in energy ef-
ficiency.
If the lighting technology available today
were used comprehensively throughout the
country, in Germany the potential for savingswould be:
Offices: appr. 3.2 billion kWh
Industry, workshops: appr. 8.4 billion kWh
Roads: appr. 2.6 billion kWh
Private homes: appr. 7.5 billion kWh
In practical terms, this means that if modern
lighting systems were used, CO2 emissions
could be reduced by 13,000,000 metric tons
annually.
The new RIDI LINIA continuous lighting sys-tem with variable contacting permits savings
by ensuring that specified luminous intensity
levels are achieved with greater accuracy.
The distances between luminaires can be

Toolless: Simple assembly using the pro-
ven RIDI twist-lock catch at the gear tray.
This mechanism is used to fasten the gear
tray on the trunking and also as a fixture
for the optical control.
The phase selection and selection of
emergency lighting circuits takes place bythe simple displacement of contacts in the
plug housing of the gear tray.

lection of modules can be used at any optional
position in the trunking.
chosen at will (see right). The open trunking
simply needs to be closed by a dummycover. At the same time, this solution helps
cut procurement costs.
The presence-controlled continuous lighting
system LINIA-I opens up additional potential
for ecological lighting and naturally for sa-
vings in terms of energy costs.

11/3111
The mains supply can be fed at the ends of the continuous lighting system or at the butt joints between two trun-
king elements. A sleeve is used for this which completely surrounds the cable and so guarantees the IP54 rating.
Depending on what the room is used for, dif-
ferent demands are made on the luminaire
protection rating. The specifications for pro-
duction workshops differ considerably from
those for office spaces or classrooms.
Protection ratings:
IP20: Proof against the ingress of solid
foreign bodies larger than 12.5 mm
in size
IP54: Dust and splash water proof
The same trunking can be used with the RIDI
LINIA continuous lighting system to comply
with either the IP20 or IP54 protection ra-
tings. The required protection rating is achie-
ved by selecting the suitable gear tray series.
For IP20:
Use of gear tray series VLG ... and dummy
cover VLB ... (metal) / VLBK ... (plastic)
For IP54:
Use of gear tray series VLSG ... and dummy
cover VLSB ... (metal) / VLSBK ... (plastic)
Seal VLTVD has to be used at the trunking
connection. Dummy cover VLSBK ... (plastic)
for IP54 can be shortened by the user as re-
quired. Here, the seal VLSBKD is mounted at
the ends.
When using gear trays VLSG ... and dummy
cover VLSBK ... for IP54, the positive locking
fixture between the trunking and dummycover in the longitudinal direction eliminates
the need for any additional means of sealing.
This puts an end to the risk of seal ageing
and fatigue, and ensures that the luminaire
remains fully compliant with the protection
rating over its entire life.

The benefits of the VLT ... trunking with
through wiring profile:
Toolless assembly of trunking connector,
fixing accessories and terminals
Simple assignment trunking and trunking
connectors as well as electrical connector
blocks due to colour coding
Inscription on the mains connection is le-
gible from below for ease of assembly.
The mains connection is additionally iden-
tified by a mechanical coding system to
prevent inadvertent polarity reversal du-
ring assembly.
The continuous lighting system is earthed
automatically by forced contacting both at
the trunking connectors and the mains
connections.
There are two forms of mains connection
possible:
- at the face end through the knockouts in
the end cap
- from above through the knockouts at the
joints between two trunking elements
Reliable gear tray contacting is possible at
any position of the trunking along the con-tinuous through wiring profile, permitting
the structure of the continuous lighting
system to be varied at will.
The same trunking can be used in the RIDI
LINIA continuous lighting system for pro-
tection ratings IP20 and IP54. For IP54, the
seal VLTVD is additionally required.

Electrical trunking connection:
Clear coding of the through wiring profiles with continuous colour strips along the sides
The standard VLT ... trunking units are avai-
lable from 1186 mm (T16 1-length) up to
4611 mm (T26 3-length).
The trunking connector can be used to
create continuous lighting systems to any
optional length.
Mechanical connection takes place without
the need for tools by simply plugging toget-
her the components. This automatically
establishes the PE conductor connection.
To increase the mechanical strength of the
trunking joint, in addition to the internal con-
nector, the external trunking connector VLTVA
can also be used (exclusively for IP20 com-
pliance).
The electrical trunking connectors are also
colour coded to match the trunking ele-
ments, and are available in a 5-core (blue),
7-core (purple) and 11-core (green) version.
The through wiring profiles are connected
and automatically earthed by simply clipping
in the electrical connectors. The electrical
connector is reliably protected against inad-
vertent polarity reversal during assembly by
a mechanical coding system.
The colour coding of the through wiring pro-
files is continued in the electrical connector,
permitting fast, simple recognition of the
mounting direction. The visible continuous
colour strip allows the installer to instantly
monitor the safety and correctness of the in-
stallation.
The same trunking units are used for the
protection ratings IP20 and IP54. For IP54compliance, use of the seal VLTVD is requi-
red at the connection points.

VLTW
Cable channel VLKL
Comprising VLKL clips and the relevant profiles in plas-
tic. Suitable for laying in additional cables or for cove-
ring fixing elements. Toolless mounting at the side is
also possible subsequent to installation.
Distance between fixing points with vertical suspension
All fixing clips can be clipped onto the trun-
king without the use of tools and variably
displaced in the lengthways direction, per-
mitted dimensionally flexible suspension of
the trunking.
Whether tube pendant, wire or chain sus-
pension, the wide range of RIDI LINIA acces-
sories offers the right solution every time.
Examples:
With the VLTHA, the height can be preci-
sely adjusted to the millimetre using a
threaded nut
With the VLTKS, the continuous lighting
system can be suspended at an incline
using chains of different lengths. VLTHT can be clipped directly onto the T-
profile of the room ceiling.
VLTHP is designed for direct fixture on a
tube pendant.
Using VLTLA and VLKL, additional con-
ductors can be guided along the length of
the continuous lighting system.
The spacing between fixing points depends
on the configuration / weight of the continu-
ous lighting system.
The maximum spacing is 3 m for exposed
operation with vertical suspension. Distances
of up to 5 m are possible with an M sus-
pension arrangement (see sketch).

Mounting universal junction UKN
The universal junction does not contain any
luminaire adapters. the universal junction
does not come with a luminaire adapter.
These must be ordered separately depending
on the luminaire and the required number.
The connector blocks for the mains con-
nection are contained in the universal
junction kit.
The maximum through wiring possible
through junctions is 7 x 2.5 mm, and is con-
tained in the adapter.
Junctions can be used to create a wide va-
riety of geometrical patterns. The adjustable
angle of between two mounted luminaires is
limited between a minimum of 60 and a
maximum of 300 (exception: VLRML). Bet-
ween these angles, the two luminaires can
be arranged at any infinitely variable angle
relative to each other.
For fixing junctions to the ceiling, there are
three types of pendant fixing kits available:
UKNS
Wire suspension with metal ceiling fixtures
UKNSB
Wire suspension with canopy
UKNR-VL 050
Tube pendant with canopy, length 0.5 mUKNR-VL 100
Tube pendant with canopy, length 1.0 m

First fix the universal junction point to the
ceiling with the selected fixing kit. Fasten
the luminaire adapter to the face end of the
luminaire and mount the through wiring
supplied with the luminaire adapter
(max. 7 x 2.5 mm). Then suspend the
luminaire with the adapter in the universal
junction point and tighten the lockingscrew. The electrical connection is then
made and the universal junction closed
with the two end caps. For precise instruc-
tions on mounting the junction points, see

For clip fixing at any optional position on the trunking
RIDI LINIA gear tray VLG ...
The flexibility of the system permits the gear trays to be mounted in any position in the trunking. If it should hap-
pen that the power take-off of the gear tray coincides during assembly with a trunking joint (here there is an elect-
rical connection block instead of the through wiring profile), the power take-off can be removed, turned 180 and
plugged back on again. The gear tray can then be turned 180 and mounted in the trunking. Consequently power
take-off takes place at a different location, without compromising flexibility.
Remove the power take-off turn 180 and replace.
As shown on the picture, the mechanical coding on the
power take-off / gear tray prevents inadvertent polarity
reversal.

The power pick-up also has a contact at the side for au-
tomatic earthing.
The gear tray and the many modules can be positioned in any optional location in the trunking.
The RIDI LINIA series gear trays are designed
for T26 lamps.

The gear tray is still fixed in the trunking wit-
hout tools using the proven RIDI twist-lock
catch.
The plastic coated toggle with metal core
provides a reliable hold even in case of fire.
The gear trays can be mounted any optional
distance apart in any required position in the
trunking. The gaps created in-between can
be completely closed using a dummy cover.

The intelligent gear tray for presence-controlled light
RIDI LINIA VLG-I
The standard sensor
Reliable detection of persons in a range of 4m x 6m
around the sensor with a mounting height of 3.5
to max. 5 m.
Pick-up range: For the size of the sensor, optimum den-
sity of pick-up fields.
The intelligent continuous lighting system
with integrated presence sensor provides
light only where it is required. The tray is
mounted on standard trunking. Retrofitting
on already installed systems is easily perfor-
med by simply exchanging the gear tray
(plug & play solution).
The system can be operated without the
need for programming and without an addi-
tional control cable. Special EVG-DALI bal-
lasts with warm start and automatic
switch-off function are used. Optimized
power loss.
8/9/2019 LINIA Product Range Overview
23/3123
The 10m sensor
Reliable detection of persons in a range of 6m x 8m
around he sensor with a mounting height of max. 10 m.
Pick-up range: Due to the mounting height and the con-
figuration of prisms, the distances between pick-up
fields are greater.
The default starting time for the lamp is 0.7
seconds. If no further persons are detected
in the pick-up range of the sensor for a pe-
riod of 5 minutes, gradual switch-off the
lamp begins. The number of switching cycles
(> 300,000) does not influence the service
life of the lamp.
If the luminaire is mounted at a height of 3.5
m, approaching persons are picked up reli-
ably in an area measuring 4 m x 6m around
the sensor. For mounting heights above 5 m
to max. 10 m, a special sensor is required.
When the lamp is switched off, the power
consumption of the sensor unit is 0.5 W.
The system can theoretically be used in any
type of environment. It should be noted that
any potential savings are reduced as the
number of persons present increases. Parti-
cularly suitable applications include corri-
dors, common rooms and temporarilymanned workstations or offices.
Savings in terms of electrical energy
To verify the possible energy savings, four
systems were installed and monitored in in-
dustrial plants.
In the first location, 75 LINIA continuous
lighting units were installed in the roadway,
assembly line and common room. After two
months, on average 42% energy savings
were achieved.
At the second location, installation took place
in the logistics area. The savings achieved
here in an approximately 6-month period
amounted to 47%.
In the third location, 45 LINIA continuous 2-
lamp lighting units were used to illuminate
special test stations, resulting in energy sa-
vings of 47%.
The fourth location involved installation in
part of an open-plan office. This test was
performed using an existing recessed lumi-
naire fitted with 1 x 58 W lamp and matt lou-
vre. The existing luminaires were equipped
with a standard presence sensor and the
EVG-DALI ballast. This test has been running
for one year and has indicated energy sa-
vings of 52 %.
TO SUMMARIZE:
Depending on the varying presence ofpersonnel, savings of between
120 kwh 250 kwh can be achieved.
The use of presence sensors ensures that
the lighting is only operational when there
are people present. The combination of sen-
sor and EVG ballast works independently of
programming or addressing (plug & play).
Every unit of the LINIA system is fitted with a
presence sensor which switches on the lamp
when there is a person present and switches
it off again after 5 minutes without detecting
any presence. If a further persons enters the
sensor range during the switch-off delay,
this period is started again from zero, i.e. the
luminaire is switched on again for at least a
further 5 minutes.

der E14 or E27
Emergency lighting module for compact
lamp TC 5 to 11 Watt Emergency lighting module with sign Module for direct fixture of a spotlight from
the RIDI range
Module with trunking
Module with socket
The modules and gear tray can be freely
combined in a continuous lighting system
depending on requirements.
The spaces created as a result can be com-
pletely closed using a dummy cover. Dummy cover VLB made of sectional sheet
steel with same twist-lock catch as the
VLG for fixing optical controls
Dummy cover VLBK made of plastic, clips
into the trunking using projecting catches,
for optional shortening on site.
The RIDI LINIA modules are produced on the
basis of gear tray VLG. Because they use the
same cross-section and fixture method, they
can be used at any optional location in the
trunking VLT. Electrical contacting uses the
same plug contacts as for VLG.

Simple fixture of the reflector takes place at the
twist lock catches on the gear tray.
Louvres and panels can be combined
with a wide range of reflectors from
the product selection to achieve
certain photometric or aesthetic ef-
fects.
The product pages contain a
pictogram alongside each reflector
(similar to the drawing on the right)
which indicates other combination
possibilities.
The industry reflectors made of matt
anodized super-purity aluminium are
specialists in ensuring maximum efficiency,
with an LOR of 90 - 100%. They are avai-
lable in a wide, narrow or inclined beam light
distribution version.
All reflectors can be mounted without tools
using the proven RIDI twist-lock catch.
The wide selection of products available for
the RIDI LINIA continuous lighting system of-
fers just the right solution no matter what
the requirement: reflectors, louvres and pa-
nels selectively direct the light without
dazzle or glare.
Additional aluminium reflectors can be inser-
ted in the VLR... reflector series. These im-
pact on the optical control in different ways
(wide, narrow and inclined beam light distri-
bution).
Reflector divider VLRZW
Clips into the reflector connectors in continuous lighting
systems RIDI LINIA (T26).
Serves as an optical divider of the continuous lighting
system and to improve longitudinal glare.
