Morningside VillageFayetteville, Arkansas Spring 2012

Blending into the 2035 plan for south Fayetteville with a density of 10.8 units an acre, Morningside is an 80 acre new urban development involving low dense to high dense residential, commercial, and recreational zones. The development is designed to inspire Fayetteville to be more sustainable by showing how convenient, aesthetically pleasing and economical a new urban development would be compared to the current sprawling north Fayetteville.

Analyzing the areaTo find the best possible location for the Regional Center and other TOD hubs for all of NWA, a process using Arcmap GIS was used to create maps of 1,2,3,4,5 and 6. These maps were layered atop one another to display which areas of Northwest Arkansas could serve best due to its properties.

The hotel grounds deal with the grade change going down to the marina withe the formation of terraces. Cascading down these terraces is a stream of water that originates at an artificial waterfall appearing to come from the hotel’s infinite pool. This linkage helps blend the hotel and marina into one entity.

With a waterfront boardwalk lined with shops and restaurants, the marina and convention center block are the most vibrant parts of Vela Suites. Along with the convention center there are two other key nodes within the marina zone, being nature center which serves the linking preservation to the west and the Vela Suites Hotel.

The convention center block’s promenade contains terraces to create the best experience for the grading froim the Marina to the commercial district, This entry will create and outstanding experience for guests going to and from the Marina.

Pool Night Activity

Individual Senior Capstone ProjectPort Aransas, Texas Fall 2012

The goals of Vela Suites are to create a resort for tourists and locals that is environmentally sustainable by having a low carbon footprint, ecological sensitive site that preserves and restores the ecosystems of coastal, tidal flats, and spoil banks containing an abundance of wildlife. Also being a sociological sustainable site by having a well connected community that is involved with promoting each other’s welfare creating an up-lifting experience throughout the site.

The Vela Suites infinite pool experience helps to give guests the feeling as if they are part of the marina. With this comfortable visualization, the pool looks over most of the marina giving guests the opportunity to observe the many activities while remaining separated due the pool’s elevation.
