Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief Fund
Second Collection: September 9 & 10, 2017
A message from Archbishop José H. Gomez
Our prayerful and financial support is urgently needed to help the families who have lost loved ones, homes, and businesses. We also stand with our brother bishops in the region who have the difficult task of providing pastoral care in these most trying times while managing their own losses.
Funds given to this special collection will support the humanitarian and recovery efforts of Catholic Charities USA and provide pastoral and rebuilding support to impacted dioceses through the USCCB. The hurricane has affected southeast Texas, including the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, and could also strike Louisiana.
We will take a second collection next weekend to support Catholic Charities’ disaster relief efforts for Hurricane Harvey and related floods. Checks may be made payable to Catholic Charities.
Helping is easy! Simply place a check or cash in our second collection next weekend, send your check directly to the address below, or make a payment online at https://catholiccharitiesusa.org/.

I do not know how philosophers may
ultimately define religion; but from Micah
to James it has been defined as service to
one's fellow human rendered by following
the great rule of justice and mercy, of
wisdom and righteousness.
--Theodore Roosevelt
Indeed, may all of us be generous in
our commitment to him, carrying our
cross with faith and courage.
Pope Francis
Deepening Our Faith Today is a day of reflection for all of us who
have gathered here at God’s
invitation. Jesus asks us what
profit there is in gaining the
whole world if we forfeit our
life. We would do well to
assess our priorities and
examine whether we wish to live for ourselves
or for Christ. Let us pray today for the grace to
take up our cross and follow him.
Questions of the Week: Jesus bids me “deny myself” before “taking up
the cross” and “following.”
What radical shift of values, reordering of
priorities, refocusing of vision must take place
in my heart as discipleship’s non-negotiable
Step Number 1?
Cristo. Oremos hoy para pedir la gracia de
tomar nuestra cruz y seguir a Cristo.
Preguntas de la Semana: Dado que antes de “tomar la cruz” y “seguir” a
Jesús él me pide “renunciar a mí mismo”.
¿Qué cambios radicales de valores,
reordenación de prioridades y reenfoque de
visión deben ocurrir en mi corazón como el
Paso #1 para el discipulado?
