My name is Jeremy Martin, I am the Managing Director of MARTIN and I welcome everyone to the new look MARTIN magazine! Your FREE local magazine. Each month we will be bringing you the best from your community – from the ‘pets of the month’ to the ‘Alexandria Rovers’ wrap up to the updates from the ‘MARTIN card’ and the best real estate we currently have to offer.Well it’s the end of the financial year and what a year it has been for MARTIN. We have set record high prices in the area continuously over the past year and have continued to stamp our name in the community as the Number One Real Estate Agency.At MARTIN we value our local residents and regularly host free events for the community. I also take a weekly class at Green Square School providing the kids with an insight into my own experiences and helping them with some of life’s challenges. My aim is to show these kids what an abundance of opportunities they have within the area where they go to school and to mentor them the best I can. I am proud to announce that in 2011, 3 students took part in a mentoring and work experience program at MARTIN and all 3 went on to complete the School Certificate.Lastly, I’d like to say a big congratulations to my team at MARTIN as we have been nominated again in 2012 for the City of Sydney Business of the Year Awards. Last year we were lucky enough to be finalists, and are hoping to take home the winner’s trophy this year. In 1948 a group of men got together and decided to form a rugby league club for the youth of the inner city, they named the club the Alexandria Rovers. In its debut season the club fielded two teams - an under 21 and under 17 team. Both teams finished runners up in their respective competitions, which laid the foundation of this proud club. It didn’t take long for the club to win its first Premiership as in season 1949 the club won the under 21 competition, which set the club on a run of 13 under 21 Premierships in 15 seasons, a record which still stands today in the district. 1966 saw the club set a record in winning the A grade competition and the under 21, 19, 17, 15, 14 and 13 aged Premierships again a record that still stands today.

The club has produced 9 Australian representatives including a test captain and an Australian Wallaby representative. The club has had 78 players come from the ranks to go onto play in the ARL First Grade Premiership. Current Rovers old boys in the NRL include South Sydney superstar Nathan Merritt, boom South’s rookie Adam Reynolds, current State of Origin player Trent Merrin from St George/Illawarra, flying Canberra Raider fullback Reece Robinson and his twin brother Travis who is a Penrith Panther. In fact the club has players playing at every sernior level including VB Premier League, Bundaberg Cup and Toyota NYC The club is is riding a boom of expansion which has seen us double our team totals from six years ago. The newer families who have moved into the inner city, have embraced the club and have formed community ties with the biggest and most successful local community club in the inner city.

In 2011 MARTIN Property came on board as sponsor of the clubs open aged A grade team and the team had a great season finishing third. It was great to see Jeremy Martin at our home games at Erskineville Oval supporting the boys.In season 2012 MARTIN Property has gone one better becoming the major sponsor of our entire club. All 13 teams proudly wear the MARTIN Property logo on their jerseys. The players’ player award for the A Grade team is known as the MARTIN Property player of the year award, which is a highly coveted award to win. The core principles that MARTIN Property stands for is embraced by the Rovers, whether it is working in the property market or embracing the local community in which they live and work in. Those core principles are the fundamentals that all great organisations hold, it is one thing to say your community minded, it is another to actually get out and get your hands dirty and put back in, something that MARTIN Property has been achieving at our club.As we head into the Semi Final’s, we have 8 teams who have already qualified for their respective finals and at the time of writing this, two teams are still undefeated and three more teams are just one win outside the top four, which can also see them make the play offs. With an ounce of luck the MARTIN Property Alexandria Rovers Football Club will be tasting the sweet success of Grand Final appearances over the next few weeks.

The Green Square Growers are all local residents who are passionate about growing their own food and inspiring others in their neighbourhood who would like to do the same.
