Priest’s message LOVE IS …
Love is talked about so much, but how many can define what Love is? Human love - the true one - is like a spark of divine love. That is why it is difficult to define it. Who has defined us is Saint John the Apostle and Evangel-ist. Loving God is doing what He asks of us. "Remain in my Love. If they keep my commandments, they remain in my Love, just as I ful-fill the commandments of my Father and remain in his Love" (Jn 15: 9-10). The word "commandments" does not refer only to those we know as the 10 Commandments, but to "everything" that God desires of us. It is the case between God the Father and God the Son: he does what the Father wants and that is how he remains loving the Father. It means that we remain loving God if we do what God wants from us. What slavery, some will say. But if we look closely, human love works in the same way: the lover does what the girl wants and vice versa; one seeks to please the other. To love God is, then, to please God ... in everything. And the consequence of true love is happiness. "I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be full" (Jn 15,11). True happiness lies in remaining loving God, fulfilling God's wishes and not your own desires. Thus our joy will be "full". Human joys are transient, ephemeral, incomplete, insufficient. But ... we hold on to them so much! If we were truly convinced of these words of the Lord about true joy, our happiness would begin here on earth and, in addition, would continue forever in eternity. Love comes from God. That is, we can not love for our-selves, but God enables us to love. "Let us love one another, because Love comes from God. Everyone who loves knows God. He who does not love does not know God, because God is Love ... Love con-sists in this: not that we have loved God, but He first loved us "(1 John 4, 7-8 and 10) . That is to say: it is God Who loves through us. The one who loves - the one who truly loves - not with a selfish love, but with a generous love that knows how to give to the other, with a love that seeks the well-being of the loved one and not the one who loves that way, loves it because know God Who loves selfishly, that is, thinking about himself, does he really love? On second thought: he does not love. And he does not love, because he does not please God; what it does is indulge itself. Now, will it be the same Love of God as love to God? Ac-cording to Saint John they are the same thing, but first comes the Love of God, and secondly, the love of God. That is, there is no love for God, if first there is no Love of God. It is that Love consists in the fact that God is the one who loves. The love of God on our own and effort is simply impossible. And, even if we do not realize it, it is also not possible to love anyone-truly love, I say-if it is not God Who loves through us.

Tanto se habla del amor, pero ¿cuántos pueden definir qué es el Amor? El amor humano –el verdadero- es como una chispa del amor divino. Por eso es que es difícil definirlo. Quien sí nos lo ha definido es San Juan Apóstol y Evangelista. Amar a Dios es hacer lo que El nos pide. “Permanezcan en mi Amor. Si cumplen mis mandamientos permanecen en mi Amor, lo mis-mo que Yo cumplo los mandamientos de mi Padre y permanezco en su Amor” (Jn. 15, 9-10). La palabra “mandamientos” no se refiere sólo a los que conocemos como los 10 Mandamientos, sino a “todo” lo que Dios desea de nosotros. Es el caso entre Dios Padre y Dios Hijo: éste hace lo que el Padre quiere y es así como permanece amando al Pa-dre. Quiere decir que nosotros permanecemos amando a Dios si hace-mos lo que Dios desea de nosotros. ¡Qué esclavitud!, dirán algu-nos. Pero si nos fijamos bien, los amores humanos funcionan de la misma manera: el enamorado hace lo que la enamorada desea y vice-versa; uno busca complacer al otro. Amar a Dios es, entonces, compla-cer a Dios... en todo. Y la consecuencia del verdadero amor es la felicidad. “Les he dicho esto para que mi alegría esté en ustedes y su alegría sea ple-na” (Jn. 15, 11). La verdadera felicidad está en permanecer amando a Dios, cumpliendo los deseos de Dios y no los propios deseos. Así nues-tro gozo será “pleno”. Las alegrías humanas son pasajeras, efímeras, incompletas, insuficientes. Pero ... ¡nos aferramos tanto a ellas! Si nos convenciéramos realmente de estas palabras del Señor sobre la verdade-ra alegría, nuestra felicidad comenzaría aquí en la tierra y, además, con-tinuaría para siempre en la eternidad. El Amor viene de Dios. Es decir: no podemos amar por noso-tros mismos, sino que Dios nos capacita para amar. “Amémonos los unos a los otros, porque el Amor viene de Dios. Todo el que ama cono-ce a Dios. El que no ama no conoce a Dios, porque Dios es Amor ... El Amor consiste en esto: no en que nosotros hayamos amado a Dios, sino que El nos amó primero” (1 Jn. 4, 7-8 y 10). Es decir: es Dios Quien ama a través de nosotros. El que ama -el que ama de verdad- no con un amor egoísta, sino con un amor generoso que sabe darse al otro, con un amor que busca el bienestar del ser amado y no el propio- ése que ama así, ama así porque conoce a Dios. El que ama egoístamente, o sea, pensando en sí mismo, ¿ama de verdad? Pensándolo bien: ése no ama. Y no ama, porque no complace a Dios; lo que hace es complacerse a sí mismo. Ahora bien ¿Será lo mismo Amor de Dios que amor a Dios? Según San Juan son la misma cosa, pero primero viene el Amor de Dios, y de segundo el amor a Dios. O sea, que no hay amor a Dios, si primero no hay Amor de Dios. Es que el Amor consiste en que Dios es Quien ama. El amor a Dios por nuestra cuenta y esfuerzo es sencilla-mente imposible. Y, aunque no nos demos cuenta, tampoco es posible amar a nadie –amar verdaderamente, digo- si no es Dios Quien ama a través de nosotros.
