Dear Resident –

The warmer season is finally upon us, which means if your family is anything like mine

you’ll be out and about in Fishers! Regardless of your age or preferred entertainment,

there are endless opportunities to get outdoors and experience the vibrancy of our

community. Let me help you get connected to some of the exciting happenings

available in Fishers.

Outdoor recreation is at its peak during summer months, and Fishers ‘parks and

trails offer convenient ways for adults, children and furry friends to experience Fishers.

Whether it’s a causal stroll, an afternoon playing at one of Fishers’ parks or stopping by

one of our many special summer events, your family is sure to have a blast with our staff!

Don’t forget, the Nickel Plate District is THE place to be for summer music and the Fishers

Farmer’s Markets. Farmer’s markets return in May ensuring you can stock up on all the

local produce you need, and the Tuesday Night Concert Series returns on June 2. Similarly,

Fishers’ adults know that Friday night is date night during the AMP After Dark concerts! Enjoy local wine courtesy of J&J Winery

and quality time with your significant other while you dance under the stars. Mark your calendars for an exciting opening week at

the AMP and don’t forget you can use Fishers’ trails to travel to these shows!

Speaking of trails, you have to go exploring this summer! The Swamp Trail at Ritchey

Woods and the multi-use, paved trails stemming from Bee Camp Creek Trailhead

(located at Ambria near 104 Street and Olio Road) are some of my favorite

places for a casual weekend stroll.

There are so many unique things to look forward to, and we want to hear

what you’re enjoying the most! Tweet our staff at @FishersParks and let

us know your favorite happenings this summer. We look forward to seeing

you out and about, soon!

Sincerely,

Tony Elliot

Enjoying Monsoon Madness at Holland Park!

The Itty Bitty Water Zone is a designated area offering young children an opportunity to enjoy water play. A DJ will spin all of the hottest hits while your family enjoys water play under the summer sun, but that’s not all. Mud DayBy far our dirtiest event of the year, this also might be one of the most fun! Mark your calendar for Mud Day and come see what all of the excitement is about. This year, Mud Day promises to be bigger and muddier than ever as we combine 20 tons of soil with over 50,000 gallons of water to create a giant mud pit. Rain or shine, your children will love the chance to get muddy as they compete for title of Mud King and Mud Queen to be crowned before the event ends.

Parents, we recommend wearing old clothes and shoes, and especially encourage you to bring towels or a change of clothes for the ride home. Registration isn’t required, but supervision is during the event! A DJ will play this summer’s top hits and Kona Ice will have shaved ice available for purchase.

Little ones hoping to get in on the fun? A small section will be blocked off for younger children wanting to squish around in the mud!

PARKS AND TRAILS

Exploring Fishers TrailsThe Nickel Plate District (NPD) created a vibrant, central downtown for residents to enjoy, and now, our community is identifying areas to improve connectivity to all of our diverse amenities. Trails offer unique opportunities for recreation, active lifestyles and even transportation options! Here are just a few of the exciting trail happenings we want you to know about:

• The Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan was created in 2014 to connect key destinations, create primary corridors for cycling and in an effort to make regional connections with adjacent communities.

• Our updated Transportation Plan introduces new 12’ trail standards that allow for increased pedestrian traffic and continued ADA accessibility.

• The NPD is now connected to Cheeney Creek and will eventually connect to Conner Prairie. This means that your family can hop on a bike or walk to some of Fishers’ best amenities!

Stay on the lookout for more trail news in Fishers and throughout Hamilton County, and be sure to connect with us on Facebook and Twitter for details about a community-wide, National Trails Day celebration!
