Monique Evans, Miss Texas 2014, made an appearance at our campus on Wednesday. She took the time to speak to each of our students during their specials time. She reminded them that nutrition, fitness and stress management are key ingredients to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Miss Evans even shared her personal story of adversity and struggle that eventually led to a major achievement in her life, being crowned Miss Texas.

We had a BIG surprise before the
break. Amy Storer, 4th grade math and
science teacher, was awarded HEB's
Excellence in Education Award. She is 1
of 6 teachers in the state of Texas
chosen for this award. She received a
$1,000 check from HEB, and our school
also received $1,000. Mrs. Storer will
attend a gala in Austin where they will
celebrate the accomplishments of these
6 teachers and choose 1 teacher for the
overall Education in Excellence award.
5. Mrs. Storer's 4th grade classes have been working with project based learning and created the "Go Green" campaign. The project came with our adopted science program, STEMscopes. The driving question for this project was, "How can we, as students, inform and encourage our campus to help save our natural resources?" They spent quite a few days researching how schools and humans can be more green!
Our students and staff celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by sporting their green gear.

Before MES headed off into the wild blue yonder of Spring Break, our students and teachers enjoyed our Go Texan Day festivities. It was a day filled with Texas sized fun!
Miss 2014 On Tuesday, second, third, and fourth grade girls gathered in the Library during their specials time for our guest speaker, Monique Evans, Miss Texas 2014! Miss Texas encouraged students listen to their parents, concentrate on their school work and do their homework. Third grader, Hannah Donaldson said, "She was amazing, pretty and smart. I liked that she said you don't need to worry about being anyone else, just be yourself”

Mrs. Miller's class created a habitat for
their earthworms. Each group was given
an earthworm and they had to figure out
how to keep it alive. They started by
researching its living conditions, and
then they created a habitat for it and
took care of it daily. We just released
them last week.
The reason Earthworms come to the
surface when it rains because they need
oxygen to breathe, and they would
drown if they stayed in the soil.

Recently Stewart Creek students
collected $2378.74 for the Leukemia &
Lymphoma Society. SCE Student Council
members gathered loose change for two
weeks from students during the Pennies
for Pasta Campaign. When all the change
rolled in, our students were happy to
submit their contributions to help change
the lives of students with Leukemia or
Lymphoma.
In March, our spring choral concert, “Dizzy Over Disney”, put everyone in the mood for spring break. Parents and grandparents hummed along to a few tunes they remembered from the MICKEY MOUSE club days! Adorned with mouse ears, first grade put on a super show.
Miss Texas, Monique Evans delivers a
positive message that empowers third
and fourth grade students at Stewart
Creek to make healthy life choices.
First Grade wrapped up their Texas Study with a chili cook-off. Each class made a pot of chili and it was a blind tasting by the judges. Each class won an award: Best all around - Mrs. Edsall's class Spiciest - Mrs. Guzman's class, Healthiest - Mrs. Riley's class, Meatiest - Mrs. Short's class, Best aroma & color- Mrs. Lewis' class, Most authentic- Mrs. White's class Best presentation - Mrs. Denn's class

Science students at MMS have been
studying simple machines. One of their
favorite activities involved comparing the
amount of force needed to lift a load with
one fixed pulley to the amount of force
needed to lift the same load with a
movable pulley. In addition, students
observed and compared a two pulley
system. Everyone was able to analyze,
discuss, and write about what happened
to the force required to lift the load as
more supporting strings were added to
the system. There was a lot of lively
discussion and writing about the use of
simple machines in our daily lives, as well
as possible applications and inventions.
Congratulations to Ashley Edwards and Nina Pineda. Ashley's artwork was displayed in the front case at MMS this past month and Nina's is currently being displayed. Awesome artwork from two very talented 6th graders.
