It’s HOT—and, officially, we’re back in drought conditions, and have just dodged another storm. Debbie went off in another direction, but could have come here. I am happy to inform you that the parish has a disaster plan prepared. While we all hope that we never need to use this, each of us needs to know just what actions we will take if a hurricane or other severe storm hits. I encourage you to be prepared. The US Bishops have called for a “Fortnight of Freedom”; this weekend, as last, we are praying a litany at the end of Masses. From the Archdiocesan website: “The U.S. bishops have dedicated the 14 days from June 21—the vigil of the Feasts of St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More—to July 4, Independence Day, to a ‘fortnight for freedom’—a great hymn of prayer for our country. Our liturgical calendar celebrates a series of great martyrs who remained faithful in the face of persecution by political power—St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More, St. John the Baptist, SS. Peter and Paul, and the First Martyrs of the Church of Rome. Culminating on Independence Day, this special period of prayer, study, catechesis, and public action will emphasize both our Christian and American heritage of liberty.” Cardinal DiNardo will celebrate a Mass at 9:30 a.m. at the Co-cathedral of the Sacred Heart. All are invited. May we always remain faithful to all Christian values!

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 1, 2012 Pastor’s Weekly Message:
Gospel Reflection for Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 1, 2012
If anyone knows me well is my wife Lina. She knows how easily I get distracted. She always helps me to overcome this weakness. But lately it seems like I have gone from bad to worse. Could it be my age? Could it be that I am overwhelmed with my own preoccupations? (more on this at the end). I do not know, but sometimes I pass by persons that I know without acknowledging them and I realize that I need to be more attentive, more sensitive. If anyone has experienced this from me, I apologize; it has never been my intention to ignore anyone. I also ask you to please help me by making me aware if I should be more attentive to anything. Today's Gospel offers a good lesson about being sensitive and attentive. Our Lord Jesus Christ, despite being busy, on his way to Jairus’ house to heal his daughter, and surrounded by a large crowd who pressed him. He perceives the gentle touch of the woman who suffered from a hemorrhage, He stops and offers her words of comfort "... your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be cured ... " In my case, there is no doubt that my own preoccupations, selfishness if you will, prevent me from being more sensitive to others. Selfishness is an internal illness that leads to death, not necessarily of the body but of the spirit. To get rid of this weakness and, as the first reading says, to maintain a wholesome life and be imperishable, I need to get closer to Christ. I need to touch him with the humility and the faith of the woman in the gospel; in every Mass, in every Communion. Allow his power to free me from all the ills, such as selfishness, worries, distractions, etc. that drag me to that lack of sensitivity. And free from these ills aspire, as St. Paul mentions in the in the second reading, to excel in “the gracious act of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Prayer for Religious Liberty O GOD OUR CREATOR, from your provident hand we have received our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. You have called us as your people and given us the right and the duty to worship you, the only true God, and your Son, Jesus Christ. Through the power and working of your Holy Spirit, you call us to live out our faith in the midst of the world, bringing the light and the saving truth of the Gospel to every corner of society. We ask you to bless us in our vigilance for the gift of religious liberty. Give us the strength of mind and heart to readily defend our freedoms when they are threatened; give us courage in making our voices heard on behalf of the rights of your Church and the freedom of conscience of all people of faith. Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father, a clear and united voice to all your sons and daughters gathered in your Church in this decisive hour in the history of our nation, so that, with every trial withstood and every danger overcome for the sake of our children, our grandchildren, and all who come after us this great land will always be "one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. Copyright © 2012, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Washington, DC. All rights reserved.

(Parte 2) A - DE ACUERDO.
Tired of nagging and whining? Try running a RACE instead. Nagging and whining usually happen because the child or parent doesn’t do what’s wanted. Let the consequence be the reminder. Watch for the R-A-C-E steps to reduce nagging in your home over the next four Parenting Pointers.
** Instead of NAGGING, run a R-A-C-E. (Part 2) A – AGREE. If your child is old enough to participate in the making of the rule, negotiate something you can both live with. For example, if YOU want the rule to be “no clothes on the floor,” maybe you could compromise to “no clothes on the floor by bed time.” Rules work best when both parties have a say.
