SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY Ex 34:4-6, 8-9; Dn 3:52, 53, 54, 55, 56; 2 Cor 13:11-13; Jn 3:16-18
This Sunday is Trinity Sunday, marking the conclusion of the rich liturgical season stretching from Ash Wednesday
through Lent and into the celebration of Easter and concluding last Sunday with the feast of Pentecost. All ends with
praise for the mystery of the Triune God.
The God revealed in our Scriptures is not like the somewhat abstract God of philosophy. The God described in the
Bible is passionate, involved in human affairs, demanding at times, but always loving and forgiving. He is a God who
speaks, who wants to be in relationship with humans.
As the opening chapter of Genesis tells us, creation itself is seen as an outpouring of God’s love, drawing beauty and
order from chaos. The biblical God creates human beings in God’s “own image and likeness” — able to know God
and to love in return. Or, as Genesis 2 puts it, God breathes his own “spirit” or “breath” into a body of clay and thus
the human becomes a “living being.”
The biblical God becomes wrapped up in the drama of human history, creating a garden for humans to fully enjoy.
Seeing Adam and Eve squander their opportunity for happiness so begins a long history of human failure. A history,
the Bible notes, that often frustrates the God of Israel but never causes him to abandon his people.
This is captured in the first reading today taken from Exodus. Early in the story of Israel’s journey from slavery to
freedom, Moses climbs Mount Sinai, bringing with him the commandments God had forged. He experiences another
of those remarkable conversations face to face with God. Here God himself declares what is a tenacious conviction of
our Scriptures: “The Lord, the Lord, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity.”
In a striking passage from Paul’s Second Letter to the Corinthians, the apostle concludes with an ardent greeting that
reflects the depth of God’s mysterious beauty celebrated in today’s feast: “Brothers and sisters, rejoice. Mend your
ways, encourage one another, agree with one another, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you
… The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you.”
No passage of the Bible reveals the depth and mystery of God’s love more than the Gospel selection today from John:
“God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might
have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be
saved through him.”
One could think of the Bible as a long search for this mysterious God, a God of love and mercy. We can see it from
the opening scenes in Genesis where God creates the world in all its beauty and order to the Book of Revelation
where God renews that creation, fashioning a new heaven and a new earth, with the radiant city of Jerusalem symbol-
izing a fully redeemed people coming down from above. Today there is no need to draw out some lesson for our
Christian lives other than the call to pause and simply praise God — Father, Son and Spirit — “merciful and
gracious.”

ST. ANTHONY - ST. ALPHONSUS OPEN FOR PRIVATE PRAYER
The lower Church will be open daily from 8:00 a.m. – 12 noon for private prayer only.
The following directives are for the faithful, who must adhere when visiting our parish:
• Parishioners MUST wear masks. No one should be in church without a mask. We will not be providing any masks, please be sure to bring from your household. Please avoid shaking hands.
• There is to be no congregating of people (e.g. gathering to say a rosary together etc.). NO MORE THAN TEN (10) people in the church and there cannot be a group gathered. • We urge anyone who feels sick in any way, the elderly and all who are health compromised to STAY HOME. Parishioners should take their temperatures before leaving their home and should stay home if the temperature is over 100 degrees. • Please always practice six (6) feet social distancing while visiting the church. • Please sit in designated areas, which will be marked off for everyone’s safety. Do not try to sit in a re-
stricted area. • There will be NO holy water in the fonts. • The shrine room will be kept CLOSED. Please do not touch statues or other devotional objects in the
church. The missalettes have been removed from the pews and stored away. Bulletins will not be distributed nor any literature available for people to take. • Please do not drop off anything in the church including clothing donations, flowers or reading materials, etc. Any materials or objects found will be thrown in the trashcan. • Please call the Rectory to schedule an appointment for confessions and for all other inquiries. The office will remain closed for visits until further notice. • Funerals, Baptisms, and Weddings will also be limited to ten people, with everyone required to wear a mask. Please contact the parish office to further discuss diocesan directives with priest. • For the foreseeable future, we will not be scheduling any events, which will draw crowds and make social distancing difficult. • Please adhere to directives by parish staff. The health of all the faithful of the Diocese is of utmost concern, so let us continue to pray to the Lord Who is a healer to protect us and bring about quickly an end to this present crisis. We ask that you please be respectful of the new social distancing rules and adhere to all the directives by the parish staff. Praying for your safety and health daily. Let us help keep each other safe.

SOLEMNIDAD DE LA SANTÍSIMA TRINIDAD
Este domingo es el Domingo de la Trinidad, marcando la conclusión del rico tiempo litúrgico que se extiende desde el Miércoles de Ceniza hasta la Cuaresma y en la celebración de la Pascua y concluyendo el pasado domingo con la fiesta de Pentecostés. Todo termina con alabanza por el misterio del Dios Trino. El Dios revelado en nuestras Escrituras no es como el Dios algo abstracto de la filosofía. El Dios descrito en la Bi-blia es apasionado, involucrado en los asuntos humanos, exigente a veces, pero siempre amoroso y perdonador. Es un Dios que habla, que quiere estar en relación con los humanos.
Como nos dice el primer capítulo del Génesis, la creación misma es vista como una efusión del amor de Dios, dibu-jando la belleza y el orden del caos. El Dios bíblico crea seres humanos en la "propia imagen y semejanza" de Dios, capaces de conocer a Dios y amar a cambio. O, como dice Génesis 2, Dios respira su propio "espíritu" o "respirar" en un cuerpo de arcilla y así el ser humano se convierte en un "ser vivo". El Dios bíblico se envuelve en el drama de la historia humana, creando un jardín para que los seres humanos disfru-ten plenamente. Ver a Adán y Eva desperdiciar su oportunidad de felicidad, así comienza una larga historia de fraca-so humano. Una historia, señala la Biblia, que a menudo frustra al Dios de Israel pero nunca lo hace abandonar a su pueblo.

Lo podemos ver desde las escenas de apertura en el Génesis donde Dios crea el mundo en toda su belleza y orden al Libro del Apocalipsis donde Dios renueva esa creación, formando un nuevo cielo y una nueva tierra, con la ciudad radiante de Jerusalén que simboliza a un pueblo plenamente redimido que viene desde arriba. Hoy en día no hay ne-cesidad de extraer alguna lección para nuestra vida cristiana que no sea el llamado a hacer una pausa y simplemente alabar a Dios —Padre, Hijo y Espíritu— "misericordioso y misericordioso".
