Mass Intentions — APRIL 28 to MAY 4
ASSISI PARDON
PORZIUNCULA PARDON is always available under the conditions the Catholic Church has stipulated.
The conditions for receiving the Porziuncula Pardon are: To receive the Porziuncula Indulgence, one must receive sacramental absolution and receive Holy Communion at Mass. Additionally, one must visit a church where one prays at least the Creed and an Our Father for the intentions of the Pope. Additionally, one must be completely free of any attachment to sin; if this condition is not met, the indulgence is partial rather then plenary. At the National Shrine of St. Francis of Assisi, the Pardon of Assisi may be received on October 4th, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi (in the Shrine Church); on any two days of one’s own choosing during the year (one day in the Church and one day in the Porziuncula Nuova); and as often as one makes a formal pilgrimage as part of a group to the Shrine Church or to the Porziuncula Nuova. (One may receive a plenary indulgence only once a day and it may be applied to oneself or to the soul of one of the faithfully departed.)
The Lord is indeed risen, alleluia! The staff of the National Shrine
prays for a joyous and blessed
Easter season for you, your
family and dear ones.
We thank those participants who
joined in our Lenten and Holy
Week liturgies, and especially our
generous volunteers who gave of
their time and assistance.
DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY
How to recite the Chaplet prayers
The Chaplet of Mercy is recited using ordinary Rosary beads of five decades. The Chaplet is preceded by two opening prayers from the Diary of Saint Faustina and followed by a closing prayer.
1. Make the Sign of the Cross
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
2. Optional Opening Prayers
You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls, and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us. (Repeat three times) O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fount of mercy for us, I trust in You! 3. Our Father
4. Hail Mary
5. The Apostles’ Creed
6. The Eternal Father
Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world. 7. On the 10 Small Beads of Each Decade
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. 8. Repeat for the remaining decades
Saying the "Eternal Father" (6) on the "Our Father" bead and then 10 "For the sake of His sorrowful Passion" (7) on the following "Hail Mary" beads. 9. Conclude with Holy God (Repeat three times)
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Reflections on the Wisdom from St. Francis
by Fr. Bobby
“You want to know why all the world comes after me?
The Most High God has not seen among sinners
anyone more vile, nor more incompetent. Therefor He
has chosen me to confound the nobility and the
greatness and the strength and the beauty and the
wisdom of the world, so that it may be known that every
virtue and every good is from Him.” (St. Francis to Br.
Masseo in The Little Flowers of St. Francis)
These words of Francis in answer to Masseo’s
question, “Why does all the world come after you?”
express the root of his humility: a daily awareness of
God as the source of all good things. When Francis was
tempted to focus on himself and take credit for the
good things that happened, he would
withdraw into prayer and ask the most
important question of God: “Who are
you? And who am I?” This helped him
keep focus on that fact that without God
he was nothing, but that in God, as St.
Paul says, Francis could do all things.
May the Divine Mercy give each of us a
humble, grateful heart. Blessings for Easter!

EASTER MESSAGE FROM ARCHBISHOP CORDILEONE
(April 21) On this glorious Easter morning I send a greeting of joy: Christ is risen! Through our Lenten devotions and Holy Week prayers we arrive at this day with renewed and strengthened faith, and look forward to 50 days of celebration. Alleluia! The women who discovered the empty tomb on that first Easter were amazed, and immediately ran to spread the news. Let us always strive to be like them, so thoroughly devoted to seeking our Lord and sharing the Good News of the resurrection and eternal life that we cannot contain our zeal. And then, by his grace, we will move toward the light that never ends, the light of God’s eternal Kingdom, when the trumpet of salvation will sound the final victory of our mighty King’s triumph, and we share the glory of his victory over death in his presence, world without end. Amen. Alleluia! Happy Easter!

PRESIDENT OF USCCB’S STATEMENT ON TERRORIST ATTACKS ON MUTIPLE
CHURCHES AND HOTELS IN SRI LANKA ON EASTER SUNDAY
WASHINGTON—The following statement has been issued by Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo, Archbishop of Galveston-Houston and President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops regarding simultaneous explosions in Sri Lanka targeting the country’s minority Christian community as well as luxury hotels around Colombo on Easter Sunday morning. At least 200 people were killed and more than 400 injured in the terrorist attacks.
Cardinal DiNardo’s April 21 statement follows:
“This morning in Sri Lanka a coordinated series of bombings killed hundreds of worshipers in Catholic Churches and others of all faiths in nearby hotels. The Churches were St. Sebastian’s Church in Negombo, St. Anthony’s Shrine in Colombo and Zion Church in the eastern city of Batticaloa. This great evil targeted these churches as they were packed full of worshipers who were celebrating Easter, the day in which Christians around the world celebrate the rising of the King of Peace from the dead. We offer our prayers for the victims and their families. And we join with all people of good will in condemning these acts of terrorism. This evil cannot overcome the hope found in our Savior’s Resurrection. May the God of hope who has raised his Son, fill all hearts with the desire for peace.”
