With the movie plot surrounded by 5 dysfunctional and contrasting characters set in a village of Goa, the State's tourism body was chosen to be the perfect destination partner keeping in mind Goa is the world's only tourist destination that has the maximum contrasts in the smallest geographical space. Goa being just 3702 sq.km in size, offers many contrasting experiences in the space of an hour which no other destination in the world can offer in such a small space. Goa was looking for a perfect partner to launch this new brand positioning and it was found in the movie Finding Fanny where there are five contrasting characters looking for Fanny in the land of contrasts!” 'Finding Fanny' was extensively shot in various unexplored locations in Goa. It did represent the correct brand fit and also portrayed the fun loving character of Goans. The film also managed to showcase a completely new side of Goa which made it an exciting proposition for Goa Tourism to associate with the concept of the movie. Goa Tourism has a new brand line which is the world's first dynamic tourism brand line – kenna which means sometimes in the local language Konkani. The word 'kenna' makes it the first 'Kin-glish' line brand Goa has ever had, setting it apart from all the other brands. It can be used to bring contrasts such as kenna romance, kenna adventure kenna rough, kenna smooth; kenna slow, kenna fast; kenna calm, kenna clamour; kenna party, kenna safari; kenna classic, kenna modern, etc. Goa Tourism had launched a facebook contest on 'Finding Fanny' where people could participate by giving their thoughts on what they thought of Goa's contrasts through the word 'kenna'. Finding Fanny associates with Goa Tourismas 'destination partner’

Goa Tourism was roped in as the destination partner for the English - Hindi satirical bollywood movie 'Finding Fanny', a joint production of Maddock Films and Fox Star studios

Goa tourism organizes FAM trips for travel agentsfrom Russia and CIS countries

Goa bags “Best Designed Stall award” at TTF, Ahmedabad

Goa Tourism was awarded the “Best

Designed stall” at the TTF Ahmedabad

held from August 22-24, 2014 held at

the Gujarat University Exhibition hall.

The award was received by the

Department of Tourism officials and

presented by the organizers, Fair Fest

Media Pvt. Ltd.

The Goa stall design broke new paradigms to win the Best Decorated Stall award. Designed with multiple depths, and three dimensional works, the stall literally jumped to life besides giving a very realistic feel. The mammoth Aguada fort tower stood like

an icon at the pavillion making it stand out from the crowd at the exhibition.

The Goa stall had the participation of more than 13 Travel and Trade operators from Gujarat, and saw footfalls of more than 2000 holiday explorers during the public visiting hours, in addition to visits from trade

representatives. The stall, done in classic Goan architectural style attracted keen eyeballs from members of the travel trade and general public, eager for a taste of Goa.

A trade and media evening was also organized at a prominent hotel in A h m e d a b a d , w h i c h s a w t h e participation of more than a 100 leading t o u r o p e r a t o r s a n d m e d i a representatives. A cultural show profiling authentic Goan folk culture was also organized for the invitees, followed by informal interaction between Goa Tourism officials and members of Ahmedabad's travel trade and media fraternity.

Goa Tourism was awarded the “Best

Designed Stall” at the Travel and

Tourism Fair (TTF), held in Surat,

Gujarat from August 29-31, 2014. The

award was received by Ms. Ninfa

D'Silva (Senior Manager, GTDC), Ms.

Isabelinda Vaz (Information Assistant,

Department of Tourism) and Ms. Satira

D i a s ( I n f o r m a t i o n A s s i s t a n t ,

Management & Catering Technology' thon 27 August 2014 at Farmagudi,

Shri Shripad Naik on the occasion said,

“The Sta te Ins t i tu te o f Ho te l

Management and Catering Technology

was a need-of the-hour. With the tourism

industry flourishing in Goa, this project

will definitely boost tourism and

generate employment for the youth of

Goa. We have requested the Ministry of

Tourism, Government of India to

increase the number of seats to 50% for

the Goan youth. We hope to start work

as soon as possible and complete this

project within the stipulated time.”

The proposed plot area of 40,000 Sq.

Mts. is located in the Goa Engineering

College Campus, Farmagudi and will

have a capacity of 540 students. The

project will be executed in two phases.

Phase I will comprise of the institutional

building and a girls hostel block and

phase II will comprise of an open air

theatre, boys hostel, staff quarters,

attendance quarters, cafeteria,

principal's quarters, health club and a

playground amongst other facilities.

The project is slated to be completed

within 330 days excluding monsoons.

The Institute's academic program will

comprise of a 3 year B.Sc. degree and a

1 and half year Trade Diploma in food

production, food & beverage service,

bakery & confectionary, housekeeping

and front office operations. Apart from

these courses, Capacity building for the

villagers of Bandora, Ponda will be

organized for at least 1000 youngsters

every year.

Goa Tourism begins with the project of beach cleaningWith the increase in the number of

tourists visiting Goa each year, there is

a concern about the cleanliness of the

beautiful seashores across the State.

Goa Tourism has taken the matter

seriously as it recognizes and

understands that every tourist is

important and distinct which also means

cleanliness is a priority for the State and

the sector.

Company, from Mumbai were granted a

contract to cater to the cleanliness of

North and South Goa beaches strespectively. The contract began on 1

September where in the initial works

pertaining to placement of dustbins,

building of compost pits, recruitment of

manpower, purchasing vehicles, etc. has

already started. This cleanliness drive is

slated to be in full swing in 30 days with

manpower, placement of bins, vehicles,

etc. in place.

The waste from the bins placed on the beaches will be collected on daily basis in addition to combing of wet and dry sand.

The garbage collected are being

segregated into categories such as –

glass and metal, paper and cardboard

and other bio-degradable substances

and plastic and non-recyclable waste

before its safe disposal.

With these measures, Goa Tourism

seeks to provide a clean and hassle

free experience to thousands of

domestic as well as foreign tourists

visiting the state and will further look at

improving the profile of its visitors.

Goa Tourism had organized a FAM trip for delegations of travel agents from Russia and other CIS countries. This FAM trip was organized in association with Air Arabia wherein the airline had sponsored the return air tickets to eminent travel agents from Russia. These trips were organized to showcase Goa's architectural heritage and aspects related to tourism with prime focus on hinterland and Goa's cultural diversity.

Goa and was hosted till 10 September. These were followed by 15 travel agents from Kazakhstan and Armenia who were hosted from

th th11 to 16 September along with 10 Ukrainian travel agents who were

th thhosted from 20 to 24 September 2014.

The prime motive behind organizing these FAM trips was to promote Goa and create awareness of the State as a tourist destination especially during the monsoon season. These FAM trips will eventually increase the

f low of tour is ts f rom Russ ia , Kazakhstan, Armenia and Ukraine as these travel agents will promote Goa amongst their respective clients.

The delegates met and interacted with the stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality sector and with media from Goa. These delegates were hosted at a hotel in the capital city, Panjim and their itinerary included presentations on Goa, business sessions with hoteliers, a cruise trip along the river Mandovi, a visit to Basilica de Bom Jesus, Se Cathedral, Christian Art Museum, Aguada fort, Reis Magos fort, Tiracol fort, Cabo Da Rama fort, Baga beach, Morjim beach, Arambol beach, Benaulim beach, Agonda beach, Palolem beach, Mobor beach, Shree Manguesh temple (Priol, Ponda), Shree Mahalsa temple (Mardol), tropical spice plantation, Big Foot (Ancestral Goa, Loutolim), Goa Chitra Museum, Benaulim, etc.
