The Year 1/ 2’s are currently enjoying the Water Safety Program at the Leisurelink Aquatic
Centre in Waurn Ponds. The school has recently changed venues after parent survey results were
taken into account at the end of 2013. The teachers at St Therese are not qualified in swimming
instructions therefore we outsource the program to the swimming school at Leisurelink. The
qualified swimming instructors from the centre work with the children on aspects of water
safety to develop water confidence, swimming skills and survival skills. It’s pleasing to see the
students also develop many independent skills as they prepare for the lessons each day,
changing after lessons, collecting their belongings and enjoying the social interaction with
classmates.
Our next school closure day will be Tuesday August 11. On this day, the staff will travel to
Melbourne to participate in a seminar conducted by Dr. Veronica Pacini-Ketchabaw, a visiting
academic from University of Victoria, British Columbia. This seminar is linked to the Out and
About Project we are part of with Victoria University, Melbourne.

those who might like to contribute via email.
If you would like to be part of this process could you email me via, [email protected].

Recyle your Batteries
You can recycle your old batteries at St Therese Primary School. The recycling
bin is located in the front office. We will dispose of the batteries at Barwon Waste
Management in Geelong North for you. Families are welcome and encouraged to
drop off their batteries to our recycling bin. We will take button, AAA, AA, C, and
D sized batteries.
2723 batteries recycled so far (approx. 55 kg)
Torquay Plastic Free Competition
Congratulations to all our students who entered the Torquay Plastic Free
Sustainability Challenge. St Therese had finalists in the competition from years one
to six. Well done to Indi Long, Sian Hughes, Bella O’Dwyer, Poppy Gee, Ella Grant, Remy Locke, Maggie Fuller, Lux
Kolarik-Doherty, Lily Hylands, Conall Green, Angus McKoy and Lachlan McKoy whose work was judged in the finals.
The competition also included students from Bellbrae and Torquay College. The Finals were held at the Quiksilver
Auditorium, (who also sponsored the event) where our students had to give a presentation about their work. Bella, Poppy and
Ella, as well as Conall, Angus and Lachlan received an award from Quiksilver for their excellent entries. Well done to all
students who participated.
Bella and Poppy discussing their entry and receiving their award.
National Tree Day: Friday July 24 This Friday is National Tree Day and to mark the day St Therese students will be planting trees on and off site. Years Prep to
two will be planting on our school grounds. Years three and four are planting trees at Black Rock with Barwon Water and
year fives are planting with the Surf Coast Shire at the flying fox park. Over the years our school has planted enough trees to
be a carbon neutral school, this year’s efforts are well on the way to helping us achieve that goal again.
Nude Food Reminder
Thanks to all families who support our schools sustainability initiatives. We would encourage you to continue to send no
wrappers in your child’s lunchbox, as this is a requirement for our schools 5 Star Sustainability Status and fits in with our
beliefs about leaving a small ecological footprint.
Cross Country: Well done to Jedd Burns for coming 41st in the Victorian School State Cross Country Championships. Jedd went to
Melbourne last week and ran 3km in a very fast race. Well done Jedd you did yourself and St Therese proud.
P&F News
What’s on in Term 3...
We are just over one week away from our Bogan Bingo event. The COUNTDOWN is
on! It’s going to be a great night so don’t miss out! There is one full table left, so jump
on Trybooking if you want to join in the fun. If there are tables with spots available, let
Deb Adams know if you will be filling them.
We need to confirm the numbers ASAP with our Bogans.
Also, if you can't channel your inner bogan and the flannel shirt at the back of your
wardrobe doesn't fit anymore, just come as you are!!!
See flyer below for more details.
Reminder: buses will be running to take you home. 12.00am, 12.30am and
1.00am. There will be a list of stops in the hall on the night, so remember to have a look
so you get on the right bus.
Help needed: To ensure we can run the night successfully, we need someone in attendance with their Responsible Service of
Alcohol (RSA) but you will not be required to work behind bar. Please let Deb Adams know if you are available.
Clean up: If you are looking for your “just one thing” to help the P&F this year then this could be it. Clean up for Bogan
Bingo is on at 2 pm, Sunday 2 August in the hall.
It’s a BIG term for Dad...

cakes or even something purchased from the supermarket for families in need at St Therese. They can be left in the kitchen
freezer near the hall, labelled and placed in non-returnable containers with a list of ingredients and the date. Your help
with this wonderful gesture is so greatly appreciated.

Extend Before and After School Care at
St Therese Primary School Our recap
Before School Care
The kids at Before School Care have enjoyed just chatting and talking and drawing a lot! Last week we
commemorated Sorry Day and we are completing reconciliation art work and discussions. The children
have baked muffins and banana bread which is delicious on cold mornings! We said goodbye to Nikita and Ryder but have
had two new children, Charlotte and Kyan, join us. The girls have, as usual, loved playing with the new toys and the boys
have shown interest in soccer and footy.
