Dear Parishioners,

The Lord Jesus in the Gospel this week

encourages his disciples to not be afraid. He does

this often in the sacred scriptures. It is a good

word of advice. It is an important word of advice. In so many ways the Lord is

encouraging us not to be afraid to be part of the community that cares for each other, that shares

one another’s burdens, that generously shares resources, that becomes involved in each other’s lives, that boldly proclaims the Gospel and that

courageously goes about building the kingdom of God.

I love the beautiful image of the early church

portraited in the Acts of the Apostles: “Meanwhile the church throughout Judea,

Galilee, and Samaria had peace and was built up. Living in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort

of the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers.”

We are all called to this idyllic community of believers. It is never fully realized but it is the

ideal we strive for. The words of Oscar Romero help to keep this in perspective:

“Let us not forget we are a pilgrim church, subject to misunderstanding, to persecution,

but a church that walks serene because it bears the force of love.”

We bear the force of Christ’s love thus we are

not afraid to stand: in solidarity with the victims of gun violence in a

world captivated by our gun culture;

in solidarity with families throughout the world who strive to hold on to hope for their children;

in solidarity with the poor and hungry by cultivating the community garden so as to generate resources for the impoverished;

in solidarity with our neighbor who seeks a sense of peace and security in our troubled world;

in solidarity with members of St. Ambrose Parish and St. James Parish as we all attempt

to walk as a pilgrim church in the ways of the Gospel.

Summer Session 2019 was a success!

Thank you to our Grade 5-8 families for completing advance registrations. It made for a smooth start to the 2019-2020 program. Also, thank you to Matthew Daly,

Moira McCarty, Deacon Tony Gagliani, and Katie Haidemenos for providing our older children

with a wonderful week of faith, learning, and friendship! God bless you all!

Confirmation 2019 This year we will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation for the parish communities of St. James, St. Ambrose & St. Aidan—St. Patrick on Wednesday, October 23 at 6:30PM. The Sacrament of Confirmation will be administered by Bishop Robert Evans in the context of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Please mark your calendars.

The Grades K to 4 Faith Formation program is still seeking volunteer catechists.

Please consider volunteering. Don’t wait for someone else to volunteer. Be the someone who can make a

difference. All you need is your faith and a willingness to pass that on to the children of our

parish! I am happy to work with anyone who would like to teach. Contact me if interested.

Thank you, Robin Carney, Director of Religious Education

FORMED has something for the whole family! Jesus Stories were created to help children apply the lessons found in the parables of Jesus. Each 10 minute episode includes a story situation that children today can relate to, a parable, and a thought-provoking way to apply it. In this episode, The Merchant and His Treasure, we learn how sometimes it's important to give up what we want for what is truly best!
