From our Principal… From Our Principal…. Dear families, Welcome back! Welcome back from what I hope was a delightful holiday for you all. It was great, as I visited classrooms on Monday, to see students in their uniforms, displaying wonderful learning behaviours and actively engaged in their learning. We can all be very proud of how they have settled back into school routines so well. We have a busy term ahead of us. In addition to continuing the excellent teaching and learning that occurs every day in classrooms, we have a number of additional activities to look forward to. These include Swim and Water Safety programs, school walkathon, 5/6 swimming carnival, the Dance Fever performance, the Esk Band Extravaganza, Orientation Evening for 2018 Kindergarten families, orientation days and celebrations for our Grade 6 students, and class picnics. During this busyness and excitement, we will be supporting our students to maintain their high standards of learning and behaviour to ensure that each day of 2017 remains a productive one, enabling them to make the most of the learning opportunities provided. We wear hats this term Thank you for supporting us in our wearing of hats in term 4. It was pleasing to see most of our students wearing hats from the beginning of the term. In line with school policy, children who do not wear a hat at recess and lunchtimes will be asked to sit in designated shaded areas around the play areas. A reminder that school hats are available for purchase from our school office for $8:00. They are also available from Targetts Schoolwear. Prep playspace upgrade If you have been in our prep play space recently, you will have seen some changes. These are part of a much- looked-forward-to upgrade to this area. The old ‘hitting wall’ has been removed, giving a much better play area and making way for one of the large poles (now in place) which will hold up our new shade sails (to be installed in the next few weeks). Also to be put in this term will be a wooden deck in front of the Prep classroom and some new soft surfacing. Singfest A wonderful night at the Albert Hall was had on Wednesday of the last week of term 3. Congratulations to our school choir who were magnificent ambassadors of our school as they sang in the annual Singfest event. Thank you to Mr lamb for his great teaching, and to parents and teachers for supporting our choir members. From the Classrooms: Grade 5-6 Richards have created symbolic maps of their lives. They have added people, things and places which are special to them. Each map has a key, island and a compass rose.

Starts on Monday 23rd October Finishes on Thursday 2nd November

Week 1: Glen Dhu Pool Week 2: Glen Dhu Pool & L’ton Aquatic Centre

Invited Gr 6 students will go with their own classes. 9:30am 3-4S & 4-5H 10:30am 3s from 2-3BH, 3-4H, 5s from 5-6R 11:30am 3-4G & 5s from 5-6D & 5-6MP 1:00pm 3-4F & 5s from 5-6Rae

Our annual program for children in grades 3-5 is approaching and will be held at Glen Dhu Pool for the first seven days and the Launceston Aquatic Centre for days eight and nine.

Please remember to have your child equipped with the appropriate attire and prepared to swim on day one. Glen Dhu Pool is an outdoor venue, so please consider warm clothing for both before and after the aquatic activities take place. The Launceston Aquatic Centre is a sheltered, warm environment both in and out of the water and I strongly encourage all students involved to fully commit to attending this compulsory program. In the past our overall attendance has been disappointing. Every day counts! If your child is unable to attend all or part of this compulsory program a medical certificate may be required. Being confident in and around aquatic environments is a very important life skill.

You will need: ◊ Bathers ◊ Towel ◊ Plastic bag (for wet bathers, towel etc.) ◊ Goggles (can be taken but will be used sparingly during

the program) ◊ School windcheater - to put on when leaving the pool.

Please remember that if your child regularly accesses the canteen on Thursdays and Fridays, the above timetable may have an effect on recess and lunchtime ordering. We will also allow 15 minutes either side of the one hour session for travel and change room procedures. E.g: 9:30am - 10:30am timeslot, bus leaves school at 9:15am and returns to school at 10:45am approx.

If parents wish to observe their child at work during the program, they will need to inform the Aquatic Centre front desk of their purpose, or pay admission. Please let me know on the day if you wish to observe at Glen Dhu. The first 2 days and the last 2 days of the program are best avoided when observing. Josh Leighton
