A message from Sr. Susan

ChurchofResurrection.org

This week, as we continue our focus on issues impinging upon our call and

responsibility to respect the dignity of life, we take a glimpse at the horrific

business of Human Tracking. Human Tracking is the exploitation of humans

for profit, often categorized by sex and labor tracking. People, including

children, are bought and sold and used for slave labor and/or sex. They are taken

by coercion or outright force and brainwashed through drugs, threats, beatings,

and other means to believe they have no option but to yield to their new, unspeakable

environment.

According to the International Labor Organization, nearly 21 million people are estimated to

be tracked globally. Of those, an estimated 11.4 million women and girls, and 9.5 million

men and boys are a*ected by this crime. Forced labor generates $150 billion a year around the

world, $99 billion of which is generated from commercial sexual exploitation.

Human Tracking occurs in every city and state across the United States. Victims can be

found working in the commercial sex industry (including escort services, brothels, massage

parlors, strip clubs, and street prostitution) as well as in restaurants, hotels, factories, farms,

nail salons, landscaping companies, constructions sites, and in private homes as domestic

workers.

It is a complex problem we face in our communities. As much as we wish we could believe the

problem is “over there a*ecting someone else,” the facts tell us otherwise: Toledo is one of

the top five human tracking cities in the United States, because of its access to major

highways and proximity to Canada. Human trackers keep Ohio’s road system very busy.

Cases of human tracking have been cited in Columbus and Cincinnati and closer to home in

Willoughby Hills, Chesterland, Warren, Mentor, and Cleveland.

In recent years, law enforcement, hospital sta*s, hotel managers and housekeeping, beauty

and tattoo parlors have all been o*ered training to be on alert to signs that a guest or client

might be a victim of tracking. (Trackers often change a person’s looks and tattoo them

for identification.)

What can we do to help? First and foremost, we need to educate ourselves on the issue in

depth. Three resource sites are listed below. I strongly encourage you to visit at least one of

these websites:

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (www.USCCB.org) and look for the “Become a

SHEPHERD" program for downloadable educational materials and resources. https://brycs.org/become-

a-shepherd/.

The Renee Jones Empowerment Center in Cleveland Visit: rjecempower.org

This is a non-profit organization that is unique in providing holistic restorative

services for minor and adult human tra;cking and sexual assault victims. The

Center is devoted to preventing human tra;cking and sexual exploitation by

actively engaging the community in anti-tra;cking e=orts and educating service

professionals, law enforcement, educators, students, parents, and the community

on the realities of this growing crime.

The Collaborative to End Human Tra;cking Visit: collabtoendht.org

This organization began in 2007 and was built on the understanding that a multifaceted human rights

and public health issue like human tra6cking cannot be solved by one organization or system alone.

Celebration of Baptism

On Monday, November 1st we celebrate the Feast of All

Saints with mass at 8:30am and 7pm. On Tuesday

November 2nd we celebrate the Feast of All Souls with

mass at 7pm. Please note no morning mass on November

2nd. Beginning October 30 and 31, we invite you to bring

small framed photographs of family and friends who have

died and place them on the window sills throughout the

Church so that all through the month of November we can

be surrounded by the people on whose shoulders we now

stand.

If you would like your loved ones names mentioned in the

litany during mass please call the parish o.ce or email

[email protected] with their names.

The Trivison Scholarship Fund was launched

in 1996 in conjunction with the celebration of

the 25th anniversary of the founding of

Resurrection parish and to honor the

retirement of our founding pastor, Fr. Louis

Trivison. Long a strong believer in early

Catholic school education, Fr. Lou was a supporter of the

mission especially in the inner city neighborhood of

Cleveland's Mt. Pleasant area.

The parish commemorates the birthday of Fr. Lou Trivison

with an opportunity during the month of October to

support the scholarship fund in his name. Visit the display

in the Gathering Area for information and donation

envelopes. Make checks payable to Church of the Resurrection.

goal by 3 pints collecting 49. This equates to 147 people the

American Red Cross will potentially help. The next Red Cross Blood Mobile is Tuesday,

October 26 from 1:30pm to 7:30pm in Trivison Hall.

Save time use the Blood drive portal rcblood.org/portal. There is a constant need for blood.

Register with a friend.

All types of blood are needed. Did you

know that type O blood is the most

transfused blood type? The Red Cross

urgently needs type O blood donors to

give now.

World Mission Sunday

Red Cross Blood Mobile

World Mission Sunday will be celebrated this year on the weekend of October 23-24, 2021.

This year’s theme is “We cannot but speak about what we have seen and heard” (Acts 4:20).

World Mission Sunday gives us this important opportunity to reach out to the Mission

Church, to speak about our faith and about missionaries who proclaim the Gospel as they

serve the poor. Please use the envelope in your packet or pick up an envelope in the

Gathering Area for your monetary sacrifice and place in the basket at the Worship Space

entrance. Also, please o>er your prayers for the missionaries around the world and in our

own country. Thank you for your generosity.

expressed a desire to enter the Church during the Easter Season.

Dragga at [email protected] or call the church oce at 440-248-0980.

Throughout the Month of October our parish will be focusing on the various

ministries and opportunities for service in the parish. We will have

parishioners who are presently involved in some aspect of ministry at tables to answer your

questions about how you can become involved in various ministries that bring life and

vibrancy to our parish. Next weekend: October 30th and 31st our focus will be on Religious

Formation Ministries.

Church of the Resurrection will celebrate the Anointing of the sick

October 23 and 24th, 2021 at 5:30pm, 9:00am and 11:00am Mass.

Do you know someone who is facing surgery, or an elderly person or child who is

sick? We encourage you to bring them with you to receive the sacrament of the
