From the Pastor… Del Párroco...

This Fourth Sunday of Lent we are invited to encounter Jesus on the sabbath as he heals a man born blind. As we join Jesus and his disciples, we are reminded that without a doubt at some point all of us are blind about a lot of things, including our spiritual lives. The Pharisees were blind to the fact that Jesus was the “Light of the world.” They insisted Jesus was a sinner for not observing the sabbath. They were so unable to believe that they even inter-rogated the parents of the man who had been blind. They wanted to confirm that he really had been blind from birth. After exhaust-ing themselves with further questioning, they finally gave up. They never did believe. The Pharisees were spiritually blind. Today’s Gospel challenges us to ask ourselves if we must have everything proven to us. Are we spiritually blind? Or do we have the faith simply to open our eyes and let the light of the world shine in? This weekend we join the Elect of the universal Church as they celebrate their Second Scrutiny. We pray that they may open their hearts to God the source of light and witness of truth; we also pray that God may gently guide them to Christ, the light of the world. This weekend let us be mindful that darkness surround us; yet Christ is our light again,

Cuando nos unimos a Jesús y a sus discípulos, se nos recuerda que sin duda en algún momento todos hemos sido ciegos a muchas cosas, incluyendo nuestra vida espiritual. Los Fariseos estaban ciegos al hecho de que Jesús era la "Luz del mundo". Ellos insistían que Jesús era un pecador por no observar el sábado. Fueron tan incapaces de creer que incluso interrogaron a los padres del hombre que había nacido ciego. Querían confirmar que realmente había sido ciego desde su nacimiento. Have a family discussion about seeing the needs of each other in the family. Have family members share what they need and whether anyone sees those needs. Discuss how seeing each other with "eyes of faith" can help build family unity.

As a family, "see" the needs of your community. Select one of those needs and do a family project to help out with that need.

CHRIST, THE TRUE LIGHT It does not take much to list the many ways in which our world is filled with darkness. Be attentive this week to the light that is within and surrounds you: the light of Jesus Christ through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. Focusing on Christ’s light does not deny the darkness, it simply puts it in the context of God’s saving love. The Church is constantly being renewed through the witness of the faithful. As Christians, we radiate the light and truth of Jesus to the entire world. The way we live though persecutions and sufferings, temp-tation and sin bears witness to the power of Jesus, through his Resurrection, to free us from all sin and death and give us the strength to rise above and de-feat such things. We, in the way we live, reveal this mystery of faith until Jesus comes again in his glory (Porta Fidei, 6)

No se necesita mucho para enumerar las muchas formas en que nuestro mundo está lleno de oscuridad. We are called to build a culture of encounter. Jesus made that clear from the way he lived, the message he preached. Pope Fran-cis makes that clear by his own daily example. And we have a host of holy men and women who have come before us, who have gone to the margins of society so that every member of our human family might know the love of God. Our faith calls us to build a culture of encounter. As we continue our Lenten journey, we are invited to reflect on how as people of faith we can contribute to this culture of encounter.
