Message from the Padre
Last Thursday we celebrated the Ascension of the Lord. Yes, Jesus has parted from
his disciples and was lifted up to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. We rejoice
that Christ our Savior ascended into heaven because where he is... we hope to follow. But before
he ascended into heaven, he sent his apostles on a great mission to, “Go into the whole world and
proclaim the gospel to every creature.”
My dear friends, this is the mission entrusted to us. Like the first apostles and disci-
ples, we are all called to proclaim the gospel and to be witnesses to Christ’s life and saving
power. But let us not forget that our witness is not only about spreading the good news, but must
also be evident in how we live, how we work and how we love each other.
Also, today our nation takes an opportunity to celebrate Mother’s Day. We
give special thanks to our own mothers who brought us into this world and for everything they have
done and everything they continue to do. We also give thanks to our Blessed Mother Mary, who
pleads and intercedes to Christ for us, and who comforts and helps us get through our difficulties in
life.
As we come closer to the completion of this Easter Season and as we face the Feast of
Pentecost, let us welcome the spirit of truth and renew Christ’s message of Hope, Peace, Love, En-
couragement and Commissioning. Let us also thank and celebrate the life of our mothers and con-
tinue the mission that was given to us by Christ so that when he comes again, we may be found wor-
thy to share with him the promise of God’s eternal glory.

Seventh Sunday of Easter Acts 1: 15-26, 1 John 4: 11-16
John 17: 11b-19
As we begin the last week of this holiest
of seasons, we hear how important it is
that the church be unified in its mission.
In Acts, Peter arranges that a twelfth apostle is selected to
replace Judas. In his first letter, John notes that God re-
mains in all who love one another. In his Gospel, he re-
counts Jesus’ prayer to his Father at the Last Supper.
Jesus prays “that they may be one just as we are one.”
Let this be our prayer today as well.
