DECLARACIÓN DE MISIÓN DE OLQP La parroquia de la iglesia católica Nuestra Señora Reina de la Paz se dedica a dar testimonio de las enseñanzas de Jesucristo, especialmente el Evan-gelio de San Mateo, Capítulo 25:21-46. Nuestra misión es nutrir el espíritu y alentar el potencial de aquellos a quienes servimos a través de la cele-bración litúrgica, labores educativas y ministerios sociales. La parroquia continuará identificándose con su origen como una comunidad afro-americana, pero reflejando una congregación multi-étnica y continuará promoviendo la armonía racial y la justicia social. Si bien es cierto que nuestro enfoque principal es la vecindad comunitaria, con-tinuaremos trabajando para proveer por el bienes-tar de los más necesitados en general. Es así como nos esforzamos para hacer de nuestra comunidad parroquial una familia que comparte y se preocupa por sus miembros.

OLQP MISSION STATEMENT Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church is dedi-cated to witnessing the teachings of Jesus Christ, especially the Gospel of Saint Matthew, Chapter 25:31-46. Our mission is to nurture the spirit and to encourage the potential of those we serve through liturgical celebration, educational endeavors and social ministries. The parish will continue to identi-fy with its origin as a Black parish. As a multi-ethnic congregation we will seek to promote racial har-mony and social justice. While our primary focus is within the immediate community, we will also work to provide for the well-being of the down-trodden everywhere. In this we strive for our par-ish community to be a caring, sharing, and loving family.

Dear Parishioners,

It seems like years since we have been together. I miss

you all so much! I know you get to see me on

livestreaming Masses, but I don’t get to see all of you!!

We expect the Governor will soon allow Northern Virgin-

ia to move into phase 1 of “opening up” and cancel the

“stay at home order”. We will not immediately open the

church and begin having public Masses; this is consistent

with what many parishes did last weekend in “opened”

parts of the Commonwealth.

It takes a well-developed plan and a lot of work to reo-

pen in the midst of a pandemic. Once we hear from the

Governor, we expect that it will take two weeks to open

and be safely ready to welcome people back into a pro-

fessionally disinfected church and celebrate Eucharist

together.

Today’s bulletin includes documents (pages 3, 4 and 5)

from the Arlington Diocese to help you ready yourselves

for a gradual return to celebrating Eucharist togeth-

er. Abiding by the social distancing regulations we will

only be able to fit 50 people in the church maintaining a

6-foot distance between each person in all direc-

tions. Families will be able to sit together and not social

distance from one another. You all must be aware that

there is an inherent risk in gathering in any large group in

the midst of a pandemic, so please use your best judg-

ment.

We will begin having Communion Services next Thursday

after the daily streamed Noon Masses. People will gather

in groups of 9 people, while social distancing, in front of

the church on the round gathering space. We will have

an usher to guide groups and assist in maintaining social

distancing. Everyone will be required to wear a mask or

face covering. Each Communion Service will last about

10 minutes. After the service has ended, we ask that

people not gather, but rather return to their cars while

maintaining social distancing. When one service has end-

ed, then the next group of 9 people will be escorted to

the front of the church for their Communion Service.

Estimados feligreses,

Parece que han pasado años desde que hemos es-

tado juntos. ¡Los extraño mucho a todos ustedes!

¡Sé que me pueden ver en Misas de transmisión en

vivo, pero no puedo verlos a todos!

Esperamos que el Gobernador permita pronto que

el norte de Virginia pase a la fase 1 de "apertura" y

cancele la "orden de quedarse en casa". No

abriremos inmediatamente la iglesia ni comen-

zaremos a tener Misas públicas. Esto es consistente

con lo que hicieron muchas parroquias el fin de

semana pasado en partes "abiertas" del estado.

Se necesita un plan bien desarrollado y mucho tra-

bajo para reabrir en medio de una pandemia. Una

vez que tengamos noticias del Gobernador, espera-

mos que abrir y estar listos para recibir nuevamente

a las personas en una iglesia profesionalmente des-

infectada y celebrar la Eucaristía juntos tome dos

semanas.

El boletín de hoy (páginas 3, 4 y 5) incluye un docu-

mento de la Diócesis de Arlington para ayudarlos a

prepararse para regresar gradualmente a la cele-

bración de la Eucaristía juntos. Cumpliendo con las

regulaciones de distanciamiento social, solo po-

dremos acomodar a 50 personas en la iglesia man-

teniendo una distancia de 6 pies entre cada persona

en todas las direcciones. Las familias podrán sen-

tarse juntas y no tendrán que mantener distancia

social entre ellas mismas. Todos deben estar con-

scientes de que existe un riesgo inherente al re-

unirse en cualquier grupo grande en medio de una

Tendremos un ujier para guiar a los grupos y ayudar

a mantener el distanciamiento social. Todos

deberán usar una máscara o algo que cubra la cara.

Cada servicio de comunión durará unos 10 minutos.

Después que el servicio haya terminado, pedimos

que las personas no se reúnan, sino que regresen a

sus autos manteniendo el distanciamiento social. A

medida que acaba un servicio, el siguiente grupo de

9 personas será acompañado al frente de la iglesia

para su servicio de Comunión.

Those Who Are Vulnerable • If you or those for

whom you care are "vulnerable" to infection or

the serious effects of coronavirus, please avoid

gatherings of the general public.

Those who are "vulnerable"

• are over the age of 65,

• have existing heart or lung conditions,

• have diabetes, &/or

• are otherwise immuno-compromised.

Those Who Feel Sick • If you feel sick in any way,

are coughing, or are sneezing frequently, please

avoid public gatherings, including liturgical cele-

brations.

Livestreamed Masses • Parishes will continue to

livestream Masses as they are able. If you are

vulnerable, sick, or concerned with your safety

or the safety of those whom you regularly en-

counter, please continue to unite prayerfully to

the Mass via livestream.

In-Person Participation • Your parish will co-

ordinate in-person participation for the Mass

& other liturgies. Each parish has different

capabilities. Please be charitable & under-

standing with your pastor & parish staff.

Person-Per-Gathering Limits • The Diocese re-

quires every parish to follow person-per-

gathering limits set by public health authorities,

which may vary by locality. Contact your parish

for details on in-person participation.

If the number of participants exceeds the limit,

the priest or a minister will have to ask individu-

als to leave. Please avoid putting our beloved

priests & ministers in this unfortunate position.

Above all, exercise charity!

Social Distancing • The Diocese requires every

parish to ensure social distancing with due re-

spect for the reverent enactment of the sacred

rites. Kindly follow the directions of ministers, as

well as posted signs & markings.

Disinfection & Ventilation • The Diocese re-

quires every parish to ensure disinfection &

ventilation before & after each liturgy. The

church may be closed briefly, if necessary.

Please follow the directions of your parish.

Holy Water & Hymnals • The Diocese requires

every parish to remove holy water from all

fonts & hymnals/missalettes from pews.

Porters • For each liturgy, parishes are encour-

aged to assign at least one "porter" -a minister

who keeps watch at the doors. Porters ensure

that capacity limitations & related safety prac-

tices are observed. This ministry is especially

challenging at this time. Please be patient, un-

derstanding, & kind in following the directions

of all ministers.

Making Plans · During this time and due to ca-

pacity limits, please do not plan to attend

liturgies at any parish at which you are not

registered.

Face Coverings · You are expected to wear a

cloth face covering or disposable face mask.

Please bring your own. Parishes may have a

limited supply designated for those in true

need, not for general distribution.

Hand Hygiene · You are expected to disinfect

your hands when entering the church &

encouraged to do so again immediately

before receiving Communion. Please bring

your own hand sanitizer, which should

contain at least 60% alcohol.

Processions · Ministers will maintain social dis-

tancing during processions. Please also remain

six feet from ministers in procession.

Presentation of the Gifts · The Diocese requires

that the presentation of gifts by members of the

assembly be omitted.

Collection · A collection may take place. Please be

attentive to the directions of your parish. If availa-

ble, please consider supporting your parish

through online giving.

Lord’s Prayer · The Diocese prohibits holding

hands during the Lord’s Prayer.

Sign of Peace · The Diocese requires that the invita-

tion “Let us offer each other the sign of peace” &

the exchange of peace that follows be omitted.

Communion

• The Diocese suppresses the distribution of the Pre-

cious Blood until further notice.

• Only priests, deacons, & instituted acolytes distrib-

ute Communion.

• All present who are in a state of grace may receive

Communion. Those who have health concerns are

not obliged.

• Please follow the procedures of your parish for the

distribution of Communion.

• Please maintain social distancing in the

Communion Procession.

• You are encouraged to disinfect your hands imme-

diately before receiving Communion.

• You retain the right to decide how to receive,

whether on the tongue or in the hand. Please

prayerfully consider temporarily receiving reverently

in the hand.*

• It is not permitted to receive Communion in

the hand while wearing gloves. If you are

wearing gloves and will receive Communion

in the hand, please remove your gloves for

the reception of Communion.

• Ministers are encouraged to disinfect their hands

immediately after each & every communicant

who receives on the tongue, even if no physical

contact has occurred.

• Ministers are also encouraged to disinfect

their hands immediately if accidental contact

is made with a communicant’s hand.

Personas vulnerables · Si usted o las personas a su

Comunión

dos distribuyen la Comunión.

• Todos los asistentes que se encuentran en estado de

gracia pueden recibir la Comunión. Los que tengan

problemas de salud no están obligados a comulgar.

• Sírvase seguir los procedimientos de su parroquia para

PRAYER FOR A PANDEMIC May we, who are merely inconvenienced, remember those whose lives are at stake. May we, who have no risk factors, remember those most vulnerable. May we, who have the luxury of working from home, remember those who must choose between preserving their own health, or work for the health of others. May we, who have the flexibility to care for our children when their schools close, remember those who do not have that option. May we, who have to cancel our trips, remember those who cannot afford to travel and have no safe place to go. May we, who are losing our margin money in the tumult of the economic market, remember those who have no margin at all. ducing the OLQP “Calling Care” Ministry. Volunteers for this ministry will call a fellow parishioner once-a-week to check-in, chat, laugh, pray, and, most importantly, serve as a much-needed support system throughout these confusing and scary times. Once signed up, parish-ioners will be matched with another parishioner, and details will be provided on how to connect. Creative ideas, local resources and ways to provide additional support will be offered in the “introduction packet and calling guide”. There are even ways for children to partici-pate. And, no one will be asked to leave the comfort and safety of their home. If the parishioner you call expresses an emergency need, the Senior Staff Members along with Stephen Ministers will be availa-ble to respond. The main goal is relationship building. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: CATHOLIC CHARITIES FREE MEDI-

CAL CLINIC IN WOODBRIDGE - Catholic Charities has opened a

second free medical clinic for poor, uninsured and under-insured

adults in Woodbridge and needs volunteer medical professionals and

other volunteers to operate the clinic. The Mother of Mercy Free

Medical Clinic is located at 13900 Church Hill, Woodbridge (the Ma-

nassas location opened in 2017). Volunteer nurses and doctors, in-

cluding internists, cardiologists, gynecologists and other specialists,

nutritionists, physical therapists and others are needed. To volun-

FOOD INSECURITY is a major issue in Haiti. Of the 11 million peo-

ple living there, 49% are malnourished, 33% are in need of urgent food assistance, and 9% are at risk of imminent starvation. The pan-demic will likely worsen these statistics. In Medor, as in the rest of Haiti, the schools are closed due to the virus. Realizing that there was food for school lunches on hand, Pere Frantz, pastor of St. Jo-seph of Medor parish, received permission from the World Food Program to distribute the lunch food to the neediest families. He has requested more food from the World Food Program, hoping to be able to host other food distributions in the future. Please pray for the people of Medor, especially now as they try to keep safe from COVID-19.

THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE will be commemorated on Sunday, May 31st, at 3:00 pm with a cara-van celebrating Pentecost Sunday and our very own Spiritan priests on their congregation’s day. LA INSEGURIDAD ALIMENTARIA es un problema importante en Hai-tí. JUST A THOUGHT OR TWO… As we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord I cannot help but reflect on the many ideas and concepts that swirl around this feast…some with unintended consequences! The word “ascension” itself congers up images of Jesus rising up into the clouds to join the Father and the Holy Spirit somewhere “up there”…far, far away. The problem with this is it can lead us to believe that heaven is “up there” and we are “down here” and that God is far off and distant from us and from our lives. This is in stark contrast to the heart and soul of the meaning and significance of the incarnation. The truth of our God having become “incarnate” (in the flesh) in Jesus means that God is with us…not some remote deity watching us from afar. We need to recall Jesus’ promise “I am with you until the end”! These simple words are most profound…there is no need for us to stand gawking skyward with our jaws hanging open. While the physical presence of Jesus Christ as a singular human and divine presence no longer walks the earth, Christ is here…as close as our own breath, keeping us alive to be his pres-ence in our world. As we celebrate the Ascension of Jesus let us

celebrate the presence of the Risen One in our midst! Before his ascension Jesus gave a clear command and mission to his disci-ples…to us. We are charged with preaching the “Good News” of Jesus Christ and to be that healing, loving and welcoming pres-ence in a world filled with sickness, hatred and exclusion. Filled with the “real presence we are sent forth to stand up and be the voice of the voiceless, to speak out on behalf of those who are silenced or ignored, to make sure that hatred, racism and bigotry are not left unchecked. Filled with the Spirit we speak the truth of the Gospel to power, whether convenient or inconvenient, whether garnering us friends or marginalizing us, it is our call as disciples of Jesus Christ! How might I be a “healing, loving and welcoming presence”? How can I “stand up” for the Gospel, in the public arena and in my personal life?
